i messaged you 8 years ago ralfy when i was 18, you replied with great advice and i still make whiskey and cigars last buying quality and not quantity thanks my friend.
Am here because I gave up drinking 5yrs ago and I've ended up with 3 miniatures in my Christmas stocking a 12yr 15yr and 18yr ,it's very tempting but I will take your word for it thanks for the great video have one for me 🍷and forgive me for what am about to swill down the sink 12yr 15yr 18yr
Thanks 🙏 Ralfy. The best Glenfiddich I have ever had was their 15 year old distiller’s edition. Natural colour, non chIill filter and bottled at 51% if my memory serves me well. Take care, SF.
I might get one and compare it to the 18 Glenfiddich I have had in my larder for 20 years. I actually liked the “integrity” aspect to your malt marks. I definitely look closer for unchilled filtration and natural colour.
Thank you for another great review. I laughed out loud when you said you were self isolating! Ralfy, you are always self isolating in your vids! Please stay safe and healthy during these trying times. I say that selfishly because I need more vids while I'm locked in my house with my family! I always look forward to them. God bless.
Happy Malty Monday Dear Sir! Glad to see you looking well. A Ralfy review, an impromptu concert from Dougie Maclean and a Big Clivestream. Plenty to keep me occupied during the lockdown ! Until the extras, much ❤️.
Very enjoyable informative review! I only found your channel recently and am glad I did. Bought your book just waiting for it to be delivered! Thanks Ralfy
Thanks for the review Ralfy. This is probably the most widely available and most popular 18 YO, being that it is found in many supermarkets and wine store shelves. I have never bought this due to the fact that it states on the label that it's a combination of Bourbon and Sherry casks (for reasons which I have already explained in previous comments), but I very much appreciated your description of the interaction of the Ex-Bourbon and Ex-Sherry cask marriage, which I think Glenfiddich do exceptionally well. Unlike other Ex-Bourbon/Ex-Sherry cask marriages which produce a kind of a non-descriptive indistinct fuzzy cask flavour influence, where you can't really tell which type cask it is or where specific flavour notes are coming from, as you so clearly demonstrated, with Glenfiddich, you seem to be able to clearly identify the influence from those sherry casks with their slight dryness and red berry notes, as well as the Bourbon casks with the vanilla cream digestive biscuits. I think that this alone makes the Glenfiddich 18 one of the best introductory 18 YOs out there. Ralfy, keep safe and well my friend. Please G-d, we will all get through this darkness and come out into the light very soon.
Just bought 2 bottles of this to share with my grandsons on their 18th B'days ( in 18 years time) - the legal drinking age in Australia. I just love having a few drams with my own boys & I cant tell you how much I'm looking forward to opening these 2 bottles in 18 years time.
Is there a legal drinking age in the home as well? Here in Sweden it's 20 to buy alcohol in a state monopoly store and 18 for drinking in a bar but no age limit in your own home. My grandfather gave me eggnog with whisky in it when I was 6 or 7, though it was in the 1970s, of course 🥃🤪
Analise muito bem feita. Parabéns! Aqui no Brasil, nosso mercado ainda é muito carente de bons Whisky's... com o tempo chamaremos mais atenção para esse quesito.
Ralfy, actually & sadly in the USA, GF 18 & GF 15 Solera both come in a mere 40% ABV. Meanwhile, we in the USA get the excellent Macallan 12 Sherry cask at 43% ABV. Just some semi-useful info. Richard
Dear Ralfy, thank you for this video. I have a Glenfiddich 18 here and I was not able to fully get to it (despite having watched other tastings) - thanks to your video, I finally realized what a good whisky this is. All the best from Austria and good health to y'all
Tried to compare this one to The Glenlivet 18yo recently and the latter won. I don't like this Gf's policy(and not only theirs) of colouring and diluting their produce to please the less seasoned whisky drinkers in order to sell more. Anyway, greetings to you, Ralfy, from virus-struck Poland. Keep up the good work, man!
When I was 15 I had a half a bottle of 1929 scotch I don't remember anything about the bottle except it was green flavor is what I remember tasted like butterscotch candy without the butter flavor.. it was the best drink I ever had and no burn at all it was so so warm going down. I could have retired off that bottle if i had it today
Watching this, I realize that I am full of it! “It” being prejudices against certain whiskies that have been etched into my consciousness around 20 years ago when I started drinking whisky. Guess I’ll have to try a Glenfiddich one of these days again!
G’day Ralfy from my Antipodean Bothy . Like you I’m self isolating , apart from a visit last night from two of my old mates Ben and Glen , Ben Riach and Glen Farclas that is , and a good night we had too . All my best wishes .
I salute your consistency, ralfy. I watched your review of W,H Lawson's (review 363 maybe?) scotch about an hour ago and you referenced this very brand of whisky as a mild one. That review was from 2013.
Glenfiddich seems to be smack bang in the middle of whisky flavour profiles. "I like it, but..." can lead a newbie in any number of directions from Glenfiddich and it serves as an excellent reference point for more experienced drinkers.
When I first started drinking scotch I bought the Glenfiddich 12, 15, 18 when the range was discounted at a local shop. What an excellent gateway it was! The 18 was my least favourite at the time. I think the extra wood influence turned me off a little as I didn’t acquire a taste for older whiskies for years to come
I just tried your garlic recipe but used smoked paprika powder instead of the regular (because I don't have regular paprika powder at the moment); very interesting little health bomb, I'll start doing it more often.
Hi Ralfy, greetings from Uruguay! We don't have that particular whiskey available over here, but we have the 12-year-old batch. It's 40% alcohol too by the way. In my very humble opinion, I find it very tasty and aromatic. It's one of the best brands you can buy over here, and I've enjoyed its taste for months, as that's the time a bottle of good whiskey lasts in my cabinet. Here we receive the corked version. I don't know if they include a doser or pouring mechanism (I don't know the proper name for it but I guess I'm making myself clear with these explanations), but here you can get the bottle as it's supposed to be in its original Country. Some other brands here do include that type of mechanism, so that's why I'm observing this. I hope someday I can also taste the 18-year-old batch so I can compare them. But by now, the 12-year-old version is also very, very enjoyable. By the way, lucky you for being self-isolating in that vault with those magnificent beverages. Cheers!
Thank you Ralfy. Always enjoy your reviews. Would like to know your opinion of the travel retail version, offered at over 46 pct ABV, uncolored, non-chill filtered
Ralfy you are amazing and informative, stay safe, enjoy the dram, I really enjoy the 15year old solera as it's so sweet and delicate, also would like to shout out to the whiskey MIDNIGHT MALT MARAUDERS please, enjoy the weather and remain healthy 👌
I was told that when tasting single malt, you should give it 2 seconds in the mouth, for each year of maturation. It allows the different flavours to come out. Works for me. What do you think Ralfy?
Down here in Italy I just bought garlic and Irish butter. I also came to know a very effective way to mimimize the fresh garlic smell: roasted garlic cloves provide a paste that really goes very well on a toasted slice of bread and butter. I wonder which whisky could pair this thing?
It's crazy to have to justice a cough! Why do it though when it's likely most of us will get it? Not a criticism, just an observation. Good work Ralphy, keep it up. Stay well everyone!
Great video as always Ralf! it would be cool if you'd consider to do a series about Chinese Baijiu reviews. i find it complex and enjoyable as whisky :-)
Been a long time since I had the 18yo but I have to agree Ralfy. Subtle with complexity. Quite more-ish - yummy :) I did find it necessary to take my time with it. (Had to look up tasting notes from 2010 ).
I'm curious with this one, but afraid to try it. Glenfiddich 12 is my #2 favourite whisky (#1 is Arran 10), and I like it a lot more than I do the 15yo. So I'm scared of buying this more expensive one and realise that I should have bought 3 bottles of the 12 instead :D
badasspuppy .. This one is much fuller compared to the 12, It’s a different experience. The 12 is like fresh appels and peers, I find the 18 more baked red appels, caramel and cinnamon. If it’s worth the money depends on what you like, I like both and I understand that older whisky’s are more expensive. But if you would like to taste a 18, try the Glenlivet 18 (same price range).... I think that one is better due to the 43% and more cask influence in the taste.
Cheers Ralfy! Have you tried the Glenfiddich 15 Year Distillery Edition? It checks all the boxes of an integrity malt (50+% ABV, 15 Year Age Statement, No E150 and Non-Chill Filtered). Where I'm from, it costs much more than the standard 15 and even the 18, but it seems worth the premium.
I enjoy listening and watching your videos. Do you think Monkey Shoulder (smooth and rich) whiskey can be compared to offsets of Glenfiddich 18 whiskey which must be more amazing according to me and a better single malt composition, but please define and compare further Monkey Shoulder (Smooth and rich).
After a few drams becomes very tea heavy at first was fruits and really nice after three or four I've lost all that just got cold tea so for me good for one or two but after that everything gets lost and it becomes a bit bland
I've tasted a 22 years old cask strength single cask Wardhead along your review. Not surprisingly found the notes from your review, beinig a teaspooned Glennfiddich. Would you sometime address the topic of teaspooned 'blends', maybe review one?
Ralfy, if you haven't already could you go into detail on exactly how alcohol carries whisky's flavor, and how its absorption of/interaction with additional water alters those flavors?
what cask are you resting this fine malt on. do you recommend experiencing the smell of casks to truly appreciate the notes? i often hear its good a certain cask smell but haven't got experience on cask smells to be able to compare. p.s love the boffee
I'm enjoying your reviews Ralfy, a lot of them. Question: do you ever drink more than 1 brand of single malt (or blend) in a single evening? Or do you stick with one offering, to give it the day?
Would be curious to hear what foods help with nosing a whisky - it seems even a little sugar can knock the complexity away even smokiness from a whisky. Gotta day after a year of this it’s worth a reminder to hit the vitamin D and garlic again. Does good help smell?
This would have to go down as the most disappointing bottle I’ve ever bought. Much prefer the 15. The 18 was way too soft for me. My bottle seemed to goa bit flat a third of the way through
Glenfiddich 18 will be idol composition with a vegetarian pizza. Iam vegetarian... What whiskey I can discover in single malt whiskey if I seek vegetarian pizzas.
I think you've been refraining from reviewing this or maybe the earlier bottling of this which was called the ancient reserve...plz delve into it a bit if u can in the extras...
How big of a difference does the extra 3% actually make on the abv? How do they decide on those figures? Why not 44% or 47%? Do they just add more until they like the taste?
Glad to see you are well. Stay safe.
i messaged you 8 years ago ralfy when i was 18, you replied with great advice and i still make whiskey and cigars last buying quality and not quantity thanks my friend.

I had this off the local shop borrowers (£15!!!) So I got it at bargain price, which is always nice !!!! So I had a slice !!!!
Isnt that 15 yo the one thats £120 bottled to order and your name goes into a ledger apparently once its gone it's gone
When Ralfy lurches forward amidst a Scotch review, and proceeds to get into the nitty-gritty of the scotch, I do the same and nod slowly.
I came here for a whiskey review, and walked away with a whiskey review, a life lesson, and an interesting way to enjoy toast... well done sir 👍
I might get one and compare it to the 18 Glenfiddich I have had in my larder for 20 years. I actually liked the “integrity” aspect to your malt marks. I definitely look closer for unchilled filtration and natural colour.
Visited Glenfiddich distillery last year and loved it!
Thanks a lot Ralfy.
Ralfy thank you for keeping me sane while in quarantine here in US. Thank You again!

Hi Ralfy, I am in Germany, and as you know, they have to announce any added color. This bottle does, indeed, have coloring added.
85 malt mark... for a summer starting malt... 40% abv... chill-filtered... colored... Ralfy, please, stay safe during this Covid 19 pandemic... :)
Very enjoyable informative review! I only found your channel recently and am glad I did. Bought your book just waiting for it to be delivered! Thanks Ralfy

I live in the US, and didn't realise we had a superior version here. I buy Glenfiddich 18 when I want to treat myself, it's about $80-100 on average.

The 15 yo Solera reserve is my fav., “It’s a mad, mad, mad, mad, malt world”. Eagle Rare Kentucky bourbon.

I purchased 2 bottles of Glenfiddich 18 yo unchilfiltered at 48% at duty free USD 165 Total. Great buy

Big fan of going back to a single malt mark.
Garlic for plague doctors just masked the smell. Zero antiviral effect.

This one is excellent imo, here in the states its 43% abv bonus!
About 14 years ago i had a 30 years old glenfiddich simple bleu tube. It was great.
Ralfy, since you are interested in the Salt Lake City flats racing, U should pick up this 1 at 43%-- its wonderful, IMO!!

Darn ! Nobody near me stocks the 18 so I'll just have to drink the 15 and pretend. In the US the 18 does come in a 750 ml bottle but it's only 40%.
In Ontario ($180) and Quebec ($143.75), same 40% for 750 mL

Top value 18 this. Needs that drop of water but one I usually have in the cupboard.
I have always been a fan of Glenfiddich 12. I'm really confused as to why the distillery chose to make the 18yo a completely different flavor profile.
