Possibly, yes. If you prefer the extra room for movement. Although they weren't restrictive, they were quite fitted.

So... Are these overtrousers to whack on over a pair of normal trousers (for commuting etc) or are these intended to be taken off and normal trousers changed into?

I'd recommend wearing a base layer only underneath them. Jeans or other trousers may become stuffy and uncomfortable.
