    Also, “going outside in the cold without a coat will give you a cold”. People catch colds more often in the winter because they’re inside in confined spaces with other (sick) people more often.

      @@CaphiBinna ok but it’s called the “common cold” for a reason.

    • @HilaryPea
      @HilaryPea 16 днів тому

      I agree, not from the cold alone. You still have to be exposed to a virus. I had asked my son's pediatrician about this. She said he would literally have to lay in the snow for an hour. Which means he would have to be out there and not just stay cold, but remain cold - which would allow his immune system to be reduce, making him more susceptible to any virus he was or will be exposed to in that time.
      And, it is called the common cold because it is common and easily infectious. But, "common cold" is a nickname, not its true name. It is actually called Viral Rhinitis. As long as you stay warm, or at least, don't freeze, you will be fine.

    On Karate belts, this is my understanding... During the last century, in Okinawa, modern karate was developed. Though continued practice, the belt would first take on a yellowish color as the student's sweat dyed the belt. The belt was carried and stored in a cloth pouch hidden in the folded gi. In that hot, dark, and humid environment, mold would form. This mold was usually green. After months and years use, the student became strong enough to accept the teacher's better techniques. This resulted in the student getting knocked down or thrown repeatedly to the earthen floor. As the dirt was ground into the belt the green mold died turning to a brownish tint. Black was the final hue as many years of use took effect. Early on, most martial arts used white, yellow, green, brown and black belts, emulating the original use of discoloration. Later, other colors and markings were added to differentiate between the ranks and to act as a motivation.

    • @__nog642

      Sounds like a made up story to explain why they have the belt colors they do, even if it isn't true.

I am more sensitive to caffeine than my coworkers as I don't consume it regularly, even in soda. Caffeine is not the only thing that can lead to dehydration, instead pay attention to symptoms of it and drink an extra glass of water if you need.

    actually salt will make water boil faster but the effect is so minimal that it is unnoticeable

    • @sivalley
      @sivalley 9 років тому

      Actually adding salts of any kind or fine dust, for that matter, will allow water to boil more easily due to introduction of more nucleation sites, but raise the boiling point simultaneously. Salt is traditionally added to water boiled for cooking foods so that the now slightly hotter (by comparison) water will more easily saturate pastas an shorten the time needed to boil an egg. Containers with mirror smooth interiors heating pure water can actually create dangerous conditions where the water is actually superheated.

  • @gfxcgha
    @gfxcgha 9 років тому +2

    This isn't saying anything is wrong, simply elaborating a fact. Salt DOES make water boil faster, but it only makes a difference in ocean-level saltuness. Just adding a few pinches to a pot doesn't have any practical effect.

    • @IamGrimalkin
      @IamGrimalkin 8 років тому

      Not it doesn't. The specific heat capacity lowers when you add salt, but this is only because there is proportionally less water in it. However, if you simply add salt, you are not going to lose water, you are only going to make your pot heavier.

    • @totallynotryuu
      @totallynotryuu 8 років тому +2

    Salt can cause water to boil faster because salt has a lower specific heat than water. However to achieve this you would need a lager percentage of the solvent be salt.

    MSG (In larger quantities) is one of my migraine triggers, if I eat it I usually but not always get one within 10-60 minutes of consuming the food. Sad to discover but brands hide MSG in an insane amount of ways resulting in "Ghost migraines" seemingly caused by nothing till I found out what stuff was hidden MSG as well. I gone from 5-10 migraines a month, to 5-15 a year since.

      *It's not that simple.*
      It is possible to hide glutamate by instead using ingredients which contain extremely high amounts of glutamate without having to label it as glutamate.
      Thing is, glutamate is one of the most common compounds that results in umami flavour, also known as hearty or savoury flavours. Generally speaking it's near impossible to get similar flavours without using glutamate; so brands that want to market to the crowd that avoids glutamate because of fairytales about it, or not loose that audience hide glutamate via ingredients like those, even if they are usually (but not always) more expensive and harder to incorperate then pure glutamate.
      Increasingly common ways to "hide" larger quantities of Glutamate this way can be via Dried Shiitake Extract, Yeast Extract, Barley Malt Extract, Certain dried cheese extracts, Lavas, Maggiroot and Anchovy Extract.
      All of these ingredients have general common or historic uses, for example: Yeast extract is the basis for Marmite, Lavas is historically used in soups, Dried Shiitake in some (especially eastern) sauces and so forth. That's not a problem and for most people MSG consumption in normal amounts causes no issues; however there are people who *do* respond negatively to larger quantities sooner; most commonly with migraine attacks specifically also involving loss of feeling and tingling in the limbs.
      For that group of people (which I sadly appear to belong too) it can be problematic because it can allow consumption to stack up quietly, leading to pretty terrible migraines.
      It can be a tedious task to actually limit MSG intake to just the unavoidable when increasingly sneaky ways are used to hide it from people who don't have a genuine medical issue around it, but bought into largely false health concerns around it.

    you look at the heat capacity of salt water, you will find that it is less than pure water. In other words, it takes less energy to raise the temperature of the salt water 1°C than pure water. This means that the salt water heats up faster and eventually gets to its boiling point first.

    salt doesn't make water boil faster is only true because the amount of salt is too small to do so. Salt water does because it has the amount of salt to acceletate the process, but I wouldn't recommend such water. Best boil your water with a lid because it traps the heat, thus making water boil faster.

    • @madararyuzaki9233
      @madararyuzaki9233 8 років тому

      David Almanza the reason why the veins have no oxygen is because it has been used up and the veins take it back to the heart which gets exhaled. Once you take in a breath, oxygen goes into the lungs and the right side of the heart pumps the blood to be oxygenated which is then pumped to the left heart to be spread around the body for use, and it eventually ends up in the veins which are full of carbon not air.

      blood veins dont appear blue because oxygen or lack thereof. It is actually, because due to their different wavelengths, Red light has difficulty penetrating our skin and blue light does it more easily. That light is then reflected Back to our eyes and se only see blue. SCIENCE!! Source: livescience

    • @christianmehl8844
      @christianmehl8844 8 років тому +3

      Blood is always red dooods. Oxygen rich blood is bright red as it leaves the heart. When it returns in veins without much oxygen its still red, but it's just a darker red. This is the science of light!!! The colors we see are the result of which wavelengths of light are reflected back to our eyes. Veins look blue because blue light is reflected back to our eyes. Its odd, since veins contain deep, dark red blood. Scientists believe there are lots of factors that lead to our seeing veins as blue rather than red. Blue light doesn't penetrate human tissue as deeply as red light does. As a result, veins that are close to the surface of the skin will be more likely to reflect blue light back to the eye.
