Don't need a tool. Simply use one of your $1 bullets to push thyr take down pin through. Excellent camera work, great focused detail, far superior to all other channels reviewing this 5.7x28. The M&P 5.7 Owner's Manual is excellent. My main complaint with reviewers is their ignorance about a firearm, and their negatives are always user error and miss use. READ FIRST‼️⚠️ Your review is the best of all the rest 👍✌️☮️
I keep my nails very short and I was still able to disassemble the gun without a punch. There is a slot in the other side of the slide release and you can push the pin out just enough to pull it through from the other side. Also I never had to use a tool to remove the thread protector, it just unscrewed. I did have to chase the threads to get my suppressors to thread on cleanly. I already had a Ruger 5.7 and a PS90 but I couldn't resist getting one of these for the threaded barrel and gas system. I will say that with the extra back pressure from a .22LR can it launches the spent shell casings into low earth orbit which makes them difficult to retrieve for reloading. They hit the ceiling of the awning at my range so hard the case mouths get badly bent. It suppresses extremely well and is very comfortable to shoot without any earpro despite the supersonic cartridges. It also handled some fairly spicy handloads like an absolute boss.
My new favorite tool, just picked it up today, and I love it. 100 flawless rounds in less then 30 minutes and zero problems, shoots unbelievably accurate and the trigger is amazing.
6:00 Regarding optics mounting: the Shield RTS/STS mounting pattern is what this S&W 5.7 uses, according to my research. This means it will mount the Shield, Leopold, Holosun, and the awesome-looking new Eotech. However, it will not mount the RMR without an adapter plate. I could be wrong. I can't find S&W naming the mounting pattern anywhere. I am basing what I say on seeing Holosuns mounted in other review videos. Thanks for making this great review! EDIT: Correction note already added to the video at 6:20.
Hey thanks for putting the review up for us night owls. Always appreciate the explanations and hard work. Keep it up. Will you go over the 30 super Carry in the shield plus?
Two questions. What other Optics fit the m&p 5.7 besides the holosun 407 & 507? Also, if needed, where do I get the 6x32x.5 screws? Having a hard time researching and finding results to put an optic on my 5.7
I have this gun and a Shield plus, the trigger reach is the same. If you can shoot the Shield you can shoot this. The optic footprint is the RMSc. I would like a larger optic, but it would be too wide for the gun. To mount an optic you will need to buy #6x32 -7/16 screws I have found no optic that comes with them. However a #6x32-1/2 seems to work with no issues and is more readily available at your local hardware. It does have metal sights, but my old eyes don't work well with 3 dot sights. You can just black out the rear sights if you have the same problem I think this gun cries for an optic though. Good review though.
I see yours shoots low as hell too, I got one (NTS) and it’s been nothing but hell. Trigger needed work straight from the factory, sights were 3 inches low, and 4 inches left at 20 FEET. I was very very disappointed. And I’m the biggest M&P fan there is.
You don't need a tool for disassembly. Just use a bullet. 5.7 goes right in that hole easily. You can also put an o-ring on threads if you don't want to tighten it down with a wrench. So this firearm is essentially tooless disassembly
I was able to use a round as take down tool… so half to quarter point loss. The remaining half to 3 quarters of the point goes to the sights … quite a bit of side to side gap between the front and rear while aiming… little weird compared other M&Ps
I had to order new screws from a third party company in order to mount my 507k to this gun because none of the holosun screws fit the holes in this gun.
@@gunsoverthetopfirearms9476 Nvm i can’t own bc i live in Illinois with a bunch of hippie liberals that just banned large capacity magazines for pistols. Cant wait to leave this state 👍
I have one. It becomes flush with the frame when pulled to the rear. There’s a gap between the spring and tempo barrel. Assuming it has to do with that. Anything small enough to get in will be blown away once fired though. Not that big of a deal. My 2.0 has a decent gap above the trigger
Because links go stale as products come and go on the common websites and quickly end up "broken" - in this case any punch will work but a search for Glock Disassembly Tool will get a batch of current and known to work links.
I'm watching James Reeves run 3 suppressors on it. It looks like there is a device between the threads of the gun and the suppressor. When you thread a can on this gun (bare ), after removing the thread protector, I see threads showing. There is something on his he isn't telling us about. Watch the video . Any help would be greatly appreciated. When I spin on a Sparrow it bottoms out and threads are visible when the suppressor is bottomed out. Please help.
All these gun stores will say that will fit, but look at my comments. They won't. There are a select few. Educate yourself. Do due diligence. Investigate. You'll be mad when your Burris doesn't fit. You'll be even more mad when your Sig sight won't work and the gun store said it would.
Made a slight mistake, you said the blue tips were 27 grain and pushed around by the wind when in fact the blue tips sporting rounds are 40 grain, and it's the lead-free aluminum quarter round that is the 27 grain and then if you're lucky you can find these 28 grain steel-tipped but they're extra plus and hard-to-find they make one other 27 grain with a green tip, but those sporting rounds with the ballistic pointed blue-tip are not 27 grain or 40 grain and fiocchi makes a round that is 53 grain and so it's not as restrictive and choices of grain of bullet as you're making it sound. I've always been a 57 fan going way back I've got four of them and in my opinion, this Smith & Wesson seems to solve a lot of problems the other ones have issues with. The biggest issue being feeding problems with the Ruger, even though Evan and PSA, have feeding issues because the way the magazines are made, they're kind of cheap relative to the mag's that this gun has the stainless steel ones are just really well-made and they feed really reliably. I also have a Kel-Tec p50 which is just a nail driver tackdriver I guess is the word most people use and it is a hoot to go shoot. And it holds 50 rounds. But as far as the 57 guns that you can actually wear and a holster and Carrie, which means the p50 is out some of these AR uppers that shoot 57 or out the cmmg Banshee that shoots 57 is out none of those guns or ones I'm speaking of them talking about the five-seven pistols that you can holster like John Wayne not like you know AR-15 with the different bolt and a different Barrel that can shoot those rounds, I just wanted to clarify what I meant by five-seven handgun. Just technically a AR with like a 6-inch barrel or 8 inch barrel can be sold as a pistol but like I said I'm not speaking to those guns. Just giving you a tad about 57 Obsession and thought I'd share the info on that round you're speaking of. Also the federal American Eagle brand 57 ammo is also 40 grain, and they're total Metal Jacket and that they don't have any bare spots of lead on their bullet some people assume Full Metal Jacket means every millimeter is covered with copper but a Full Metal Jacket does not have copper jacketing the backside of the bullet only the other side's if you will everything but the back where is a TMJ or a total Metal Jacket is a bullet that is completely encapsulated in Copper. And that's how the American Eagle rounds are made so it's interesting that they're cheaper but they contain more copper and are in many ways made better but that's another argument for another day
I do like M&P's a lot bit didn't like this model how it felt in my hand. I love my Ruger 57 in every way so much better than this one. I'm sticking with the Ruger which is more accurate for me.

Best video on the break down of S&W M&P 5.7 I've seen so far and I've seen a lot of them on UA-cam. Thank you for making it.
Thank you.

Or use a 5.7 bullet to push the pin out. Put and o-ring on the threads and you can tighten it up by hand
u can also use 5.7 x 28 bullet as ur tool
That's a nice gun

I bought one 2 weeks ago. One of the best “out of the box” triggers on a mass produced gun. The recoil impulse is super chill. It’s a good gun.
Thanks for the video. You immensely helped me buy a red dot today. *FOR THE M&P 5.7 I BOUGHT TODAY.
love mine
Rmsc red dots will fit perfectly
Sweet video, were definitely going to purchase this pistol soon. Excellent video, thanks for sharing.

yeah you can use the tip of a 5.7 round to push the pin out, no tool needed.
You don't need tools. The thread protector is finger tight and the slide stop can be used out enough to grab with your finger nail.
I really like the feel of mine put the first 100 rounds through it on monday very nice shoot
Great video btw!
Thank you.

From S&W - any "SMS pattern" optic will fit it. The screws can be obtained at most big-box hardware stores.
Their is only one optic for this also the best optic Holosun HS507K-X2 ACSS Vulcan reticle (RMS footprint)!
I have this gun and a Shield plus, the trigger reach is the same. If you can shoot the Shield you can shoot this. The optic footprint is the RMSc. My thread protector worked its way off twice in 200 rounds. So much for factory torque.
Good to know. My mp 2.0 red dot also worked itself loose. Will stick to iron soghtd
O ring on the threads for the thread protector. Blue loctite for the optics screws.
I talked with s&w customer service mrs and mrsc ❤
I think this is a great pistol. I just wish I could mount an Acro or RMR on it. But I can't find plates for this pistol.
Fun fact: someone said HOLOSUN HS407K-X2 fits on directly with no adapter plate.
He bought it and put it directly on his 5.7 with no modifications or adapter plates
That is correct that's the setup I'm using now
I had to order new screws from a third party company in order to mount my 507k to this gun because none of the holosun screws fit the holes in this gun.
Why is there a nasty gap by the front of the slide?
I like this handgun but I thank Smith&Wesson should work on it more.
I thought about that, other M&P's don't have it. Maybe something to do with venting the Tempo gas system but that's a long shot.
@@gunsoverthetopfirearms9476 Nvm i can’t own bc i live in Illinois with a bunch of hippie liberals that just banned large capacity magazines for pistols. Cant wait to leave this state 👍

I want a 5.7 for concealed carry. I can’t be the only one. Why ain’t the industry producing this yet?
Probably due to the round size (length)
I didn’t need any tool to take my thread protector off. They use thread lock on it from factory.
Smith makes a good gun hate you have to have a tool to take apart should be very accurate ammo is pricey though
The bullet tip probably works for takedown.
No tool required. Finger nail works. Bullet tip works too.
As you can see, is zeroed for shit out of the box! Also, the mags suck Smith needs to get on this before they get buried with this 5.7.
Why would you not put a link for the tool in the discription?
Because links go stale as products come and go on the common websites and quickly end up "broken" - in this case any punch will work but a search for Glock Disassembly Tool will get a batch of current and known to work links.
This is sweet but I really don’t get the use of 5.7
Capacity & low recoil 🔥

What kind of red dots fit this model
S&W told me that anything that uses the "SMS" pattern will fit it but didn't name specific optics.
The front of my slide looks like it is kind of separating at the front from the lower and its loose. Is that normal ?
Yes.
Yeah there's a gap between the slot and frame that honestly might result in some grit build up if used in a dirty dusty environment. That I don't like
5.7 does have recoil. Not a lot, but there is recoil. This pistol has less recoil and shoots flatter than any other 5.7.
57 will go the way of the Edsel.
😂it's been around for over twenty years already.
