      it has outlasted any FCA Ram,too. my brother had a 2011 and a 2012 Ram, and the 2011 was returned because the transmission was screwed after 20000 kms, and the 2012 got traded in for a 2013 F-150 because the brakes were starting to go after 1 year and it was rusting out after 1 Alberta winter(we rarely salt roads out here). I've seen the newer ones having an array of electrical issues.

    My first car was a 1983 Plymouth Horizon and my latest is a 2006 Chrysler 300c SRT 8. I've had it about a year and it is awesome. If you ever have a chance to pick up an SRT(8) as a second vehicle, you're in a class of a few and I don't think you'll have any regrets.

    The nice thing about those 8.3L engines is they were built at a specialty shop, not at the now days Mexico Fiat Chrysler plant that is known for bad lifters and whiped cams. Those viper engines were built right, and have the bottom end to handle big turbos stock.

    • @EricFortuneJr.
      @EricFortuneJr. 6 років тому +14

      Andrew They are very similar as far as 0-60 times, the SRT does have an edge in power and torque but the Lightning is significantly lighter by 1,000 lbs so the times are extremely close.

    • @aaronbays4
      @aaronbays4 6 років тому +15

      I'd take the Dodge, just because its way more outrageous. The Lightning though, with a few mods(its supercharged from the factory) would blow the doors off the Viper truck though.

    • @alrajul3ziim
      @alrajul3ziim 6 років тому +8

      SVT all the way

    • @MB-jz3uu
      @MB-jz3uu 6 років тому +3

      Andrew true but that blower on the lightning makes it very mod friendly. Stock for stock the ram is faster. But remember both are car enthusiast vehicles and most enthusiasts mod their cars. A smaller pulley and ported blower make the lightning miles faster than an srt10 ram with long tubes and new intake. Both probably are equivalent in mod prices.

  • @fitfogey
    @fitfogey 4 роки тому

    Your crank up at 1:58 shows you are running on the warm side. Prob around 215F. These engines run hot. Stock 190 temp thermostat doesn’t flow soon enough after hard driving in the summer heat. Throw a 170 temp thermostat in and a tune that also turns the fans on sooner. It’ll pay off in the long run. I own one too. Just trying to help.

    Own a 2005 SC in Bright Silver Metallic with chrome side pipes and it's not some garage queen either...just hit 80K miles and still runs strong while winning awards at the local car shows. He forgot to mention that the standard cabs had the Hurst 6-speed manual, while the quad cabs all had 4-speed automatics. Also a array of special editions were built and these trucks were assembled in Saltillo, Mexico. If interested in more info visit Viper Truck Club of America.

    Hi I have an 05, black on black. The hood scoop actually blows cool air over the whole engine and out the bottom. It also allows the engine to vent out all that heat after you park. Also noticed your short shifter stick might be on backwards. Easy fix. Also those forged aluminum wheels in mint factory condition are worth $6-$8k hope you didn't powder coat them.

    As a previous Viper truck owner, I can say that owning one these can get expensive. Only uses high octane gas, gets 9 miles to the gallon, manufacturer recommends using Mobile 1 oil for oil changes, and expensive to insure. Yeah it's a great truck and I can't say that it wasn't a blast to drive but whenever I wanted to go out on a typical Sunday drive along the countryside, I had to plan my budget around that. And if you want to keep it as bone stock as you can, I once went to a Dodge dealer and asked what a set of tires would cost me. They told me for the same set (same make and size), it would run about $2,000. Yeah, I could've gone somewhere else but could they get me the same ones? Overall it was awesome but hard to own when you have a few mouths to feed and a mortgage on top of you and in California.

    Gas guzzling thing... I almost got one but the gas mileage killed it for me.. my ram 1500 rumble bee sucked enough... I got rid of it... but it's a sweet looking ride..

    Crazy is it might sound I didn't even know that was trucks existing until about 6 months ago. But I'm glad that this young guy took the time to make a video on it because it is a very beautiful pizza artwork that is functional that engine is mine blowing beautiful
    The sound that it makes to stock is crazy I would never get tired of that either especially when you let off and it pops off so that sounds so awesome. I enjoy the burn out the end to

    I got to drive one of these in college. My buddy's dad bought one and he brought it up. Thing was fun but it broke traction like crazy. Though I won't lie, I think I liked the lightning more. Some day I need to drive the SS.

    Nice truck. I remember the days when that truck first hit the streets its was a beast. GMC also let a couple out the Syclone and Typhoon. They didn't have the Top End the Viper truck did but they were killers off the line. Nice truck thanks for sharing.

    I have an 01 ram single cab. Basically the last of the 2nd gens. I love my truck. The only down side I think about these trucks is parts are a little higher than id like them to be.... but, i do all my own maintenance, and religiously. So i get to cut most of the cost. Bout the only thing i can't do is alignments. I also have a dad in law that helps me with the big stuff. Like my original trans took a dump so we pulled it into his shop and put a new used one in in about 5 hours. He's a 30 year ase certified mechanic. Transmission jobs suck though... lol

    Scotty I have a 1989 Mercedes 300 se . The issues I am having when I drive it then shut it off later when I go back to restart it it cracks but no start . I replaced fuel injectors cap and rotor and fuel pump filter and plug wires . I ever replaced the coil. Still the same thing-happens. And sometimes u can restart and it turns on can u tell me what might be wrong ...

    Nice truck. Right amount of cylinders, right amount of doors, right transmission. Don't like the spoiler, but if needed at 150mph, you get a pass. And , yes, it is great to haul (@$$).

    Pretty badass, but they should have offered a second "sleeper" model if you ask me. Imagine that setup but in a regularly dressed stock ram with no badges indicating a V10 and no extra loud exhaust. That would be badass.

    • @LastBastian
      @LastBastian 6 років тому +2

      They do make the four door version. Even has a tow package, and removing the badges is easy.

    • @kman-mi7su
      @kman-mi7su 6 років тому +1

      You don't need the vents on the hood the fresh air supply can be re routed. Its done all the time.

    • @LastBastian
      @LastBastian 6 років тому +1

      The hood scoop is an option on RT models also, and lots of guys put them one their standard Rams as well. You could even direct swap hoods with a regular Ram.
      For me, the biggest giveaways are the giant red Brembo Brake calipers....
