  • How to fit a circuit breaker onto a busbar with Luke Wichard of UA-cam channel My Trusted Electrician. This video is part of the masterclass Luke put on for our learners on how to connect a 10 way split load consumers unit. In this video he shows the issues that can be caused by the incorrect fitting of a consumers unit busbar. He highlights how the circuit breaker can be installed but is not connected to the busbar and how to correct his. We would like to thank Luke for his time and both staff and learners greatly enjoyed the experience.
Videos are training aids for City and Guilds (C and G) and EAL courses Level 1, 2, 3 plus AM2 and AM2S.

I follow both your channels and learn a lot. I'm retired now but if I had to do it all again I'd be an electrician. Looking round your students they look as miserable as sin! Don't they realise how lucky they are to have an apprenticeship. Cheer them up Gaz!

Hi. In the defence of my learners they didn’t make a sound for an hour and a half. I think young people’s resting faces are one of disinterest but this was not the case. Thanks for watching and commenting Gaz 👍

Insert bus bar, tighten 1st screw, busbar shouldn't drop out, loosen the screw then do same again with all other screws. A fool proof way of checking that all screws have clamped the bus bar in place.

Good to see you getting in with the new recruits. I had a job the other day where the lighting circuit was barely touching the bus bar and just stopped working. Nearly every other connection on the DB and a unit in the outbidding wasn’t torqued down properly, along with half of the sockets. The EFLI was crap even for an old TNS supply.

      Ha, ha. Great video guys.
These vids have proved invaluable to someone like me that is relatively new to the industry. Love that you're willing to share the insight you have accrued with your experience. Grateful. 👍🏼

I tried this once after watching MTEs video but I didn't really like the texture, I prefer the hash brown as a side filler 😂 I agree with Tom Nagy about mc Dz coffee too.. More caffeine than a mug of nescafe.. Pmsl ☕😁

Holding the release tap down, and pushing up on circuit breaker should confirm a hit or miss

Low resistance Ohms test solves this issue. It's carried out on ACBs so why not incorporate in to Domestic etc. Verification of connections.

if you cant tell its not installed correctly by the angle of the bus bar then you need to swap you need to join the class and learn how to do an install!

I have been to a few CUs with busbar missing the clamps, like you said the higher the load, the bigger the arcing, and melting I have had to replace 4 mcbs and an RCD because the board melted luckily the T&E coming out the top were OK so straight swap. I religiously check everytime I remove covers off CUs. Loose termination on ins and outs of mcbs and RCDs is my pet hate.. Always double check. A fire was almost started by a couple I have seen.
