whoops, uh - YES, way back in my Endymion video I DID say that Artemis loved Orion, but in my defense, I was a much less diligent researcher back then, and that little nugget of "common knowledge" was EVERYWHERE I LOOKED. I had to do some serious digging this time to find where it came from and how unsupported it really was. I wasn't kidding - that interpretation was so appealingly tropey that it eclipsed the MUCH larger body of work that completely contradicted it, and even completely unrelated articles and descriptions will mention "btw Artemis and Orion were totally smoochin" like it's a Thing. Mythology is fun like that! 😅 -R

I mean, they definitely weren't smooching, but whether there was romantic emotions on the table at all, or if it was one sided, or whatever is up for debate.
The work saying there was is still part of the body of work. And as you pointed out, debating the canon of theology is ultimately a work of absurdity unless the behavior is so wildly out of character it has to be explained another way.

Basically, Orion meets Artemis and she kinda goes "Hey, you're a pretty good hunter, want to hang out?" Apollo gets jealous because "why don't you hang out with me anymore?" and throws a hissy fit, and then sics a giant scorpion on Orion.

*orion's death was first mentioned in Homer's odyssey where it is stated that Artemis slew orion in ortygia* *Hesiod in his book astronomy fragments (8BC - 7BC) that orion was blinded because he tried to assault a king's daughter . Orion later went to crete and spent his time hunting with artemis . Once he boasted that he'd kill all the animals gaia ( earth) sent a scorpion to kill him yet the author pseudo -apollodorus (2AD) says Artemis killed orion because he challenged or tried to assault her nymph opis thus both Apollo and Artemis killed him . so either way the earliest Version suggest that Artemis or gaia killed him not Apollo*

I’m pretty sure that was like a dramatic way for some random poet or Historian to say “Artemis is virginity goddess, do not get close or she’ll kill you” if I remover correctly the oldest version of the story goes that after his eyes healed, he decides to go travel around some places and ends up meeting Artemis along the way, then later after they got to know I leach other better they started a very friendly friendship(until you know what happens next and yea). I think that the original intention for that whole situation of Artemis and Orión was that platonic love exist and love can also be in between two friends getting along and bonding without the need to make it romantic or sexual.

Especially since I'm fairly sure the other Gods would back Artemis up due to how little she does that to begin with. ESPECIALLY Aphrodite.

There's another version of the Artemis and Orion story, although it's a modern interpretation. A graphic novelist named George O'Connor has started a series about the Olympians, in which it's a twelve book project and every book is the 12 main gods. He tries to pull in every myth that exists and plug them in where they make sense.
In the prospect of Artemis and Orion, Artemis allowed Orion to join her hunting party, however, Orion took her invitation as a sign that Artemis has feelings for him. She admits she does, however, she has no intention to be with Orion because she is dedicated to the hunt. He tries to convince her otherwise, she sticks to her guns, and he declares he'll kill every animal in the world "See how dedicated to the hunt you'll be after." In this version, the scorpion does show up, but Orion kills it and swims off, in which Apollo convinces Artemis to shoot a turtle he had marked earlier (Orion). Artemis knew it was Orion, but shot anyway. It still has the tale of broken love, but it fits far more than than the original tale of our dedicated huntress getting swayed for a moment.

In all seriousness, that video is over three years old, and Red’s research process was likely less intensive back then. This video shows different myths surrounding Orion, pointing out one that involved Artemis’ romantic attraction and detailing the origin of the myth.
On an unrelated note, Red made some stellar puns in this video, with both “constellation prize” and “Counting Stars” as the outro song of the video.

Always like seeing stuff about beings like Euryale. Almost every tale about Gorgons I've read have them (except for Medusa) being horrible mindless monsters. They had names, and therefore some kind of identity, so I'm glad for myths that hint at that.
Also, gotta love how Gaia is the End Task function against Gods. Anytime they start stepping out of line, she designs a new beast and puts a stop to it.

Orion's pants once fell down while he was hunting. To remind him that belts exist the gods put his into the night sky

I‘d like to see an amalgam version of these myths; Orion and Artemis being good friends with a shared love for hunting, though Orion was prone to bouts of bravado and skirt chasing, meaning Artemis often has to be the level-headed one to bring her friend back to his senses.

As someone into astronomy and studying to get a degree in Astrophysics, Orion holds a special place in my heart as being the coolest part of the sky to look at. I just love the Orion Nebula, his Belt, the mystery of Betelgeuse, the Horsehead Nebula, and just how prominent it is in the sky. Even my grandma wanted my parents to name me Orion!
