  • This is a slight variation for this cleistocactus species, and presented in a very different way. Yes, you can grow it on a raised surface or even in a raised box; and that is significantly more successful than the usual basket. But you can still grow it in a simple pot, AND that is the best start for a single cutting.
Its green stem is fully covered with white hairy spines. It grows in clumps and can reach well over 2 meters in length..
GROW n CARE in normal cactus soil. Seeds, cuttings do well in pots. Water and fertilize regularly in summer or warmer months, but less or no water in winter orientated climates. It does well in baskets when young, but do remember as clumps develop the basket will become quite heavy. Definitely worth growing.

Absolutely. I like the way it grows extra large, much bigger than normal.

That garden looks so beautiful! And I’ve never seen that Cleistocactus planted in the ground. Just look how massive it become. 😃👍🏼

I also thought it very unusual growing it in the ground, but was very impressed with the massive production of stems. This way you don't have the problem of the over weight hanging basket.

What a great hanging cactus that makes. Where is this? I have that aloe to the left. A.congolensis. Gets a chocolate color in summer...green in winter.

All of the species do well in baskets, but be careful as they clump they can be very heavy. This plant in the video is in Brazil, a place that is full of lovely plants. I also have some Aloe congolensis.

Wow I kindda like this monkey tail cactus which is very very different to the normal cactus. I am sure it will survive in Trinidad. So please next time you visit please bring along a cutting from this lovely rare cactus.
