Use the pause method to beat Sephiroth (and the rest) in the 3D brawler in the gold saucer. Hit the pause button on the controller just as Sephiroth gets to the middle of his move. There’s a split second between him winding the move up and him executing it. If you pause there, you’ll be able to move the correct control stick to the correct position, hold it in that position then press the pause button again to unpause the game. As long as you don't go too late, you’ll dodge the move.

2 other noteworthy mentions is the timing of the input early/late can cause a block instead of dodge.
There are 3 set combos, I found that the pause method was rough when it came to timing those. Also, failing to perfect dodge interrupts the combo and the game goes back to normal

Just had to do this again for a friend. Idk if it's just my imagination, but it helped to set the game to 30fps mode- Godspeed brawlers. May you get your clears and NEVER have to do this again XD

I played for about 20 min. Kind of learned his moves. Then paused at 1:05 of the video to have the screenshots ready.
Make sure you pause for when Sephiroth is throwing the punch. (Too early and you block instead). Then hold the joystick in the right spot before unpausing.

I already discovered the pause method on my own, but your move references, easy difficulty tip and knowing to pause at the middle of his moves made this easy. Got it in just a few tries putting all those things together. Doing this legit without pausing seems a bit out of reach.

It should be mentioned that when he enrages he has a few different combos where he does the same thing every time minus when you’re like 1 pinching away from winning.

I’ve seen elsewhere people asking about why the block sometimes instead of dodge. I tried so many times and failed probably 15 times because I blocked enough to fill his limit break. What made the difference was I was very careful to move the joystick exactly up/down/out and not to get it at a bit of an angle. Otherwise, holding it as I unpaused worked great.
Holding stopped working for me at Middle Mgr.
believe it or not holding actually does work all the time. what is happening is you are either hitting the correct direction too early or too late. you need to hit it within the sweet spot for it to be a dodge.

One thing that I would like to add is that the sound effects that sepiroth makes as he is winding up his punch are VERY useful in timing the pause at the apex of his punch. If you pause as soon as the sound effect is over you can figure out what side he is going to punch and all you need to do is move the controller to the correct direction and then un-pause. This will guarantee you get dodges instead of guards. turn off the music and turn the sound effects all the way up.

Its actually more fun with pause method, enjoyable challenge. They should have just added a quick pause before his punches to predict it and make it better for everyone. Thanks for the reference guide!
Any time i got blocks it was cause I moved the stick too late. Also for ones going only left and right I found by having the stick down a bit helps lock in the dodge. Especially with the right one when unpausing you're more likely to have the stick up a bit coming off the pause quickly which results in no dodge. If that makes any sense! Lvl 50 heading into chapter 13! Have fun everyone.
I would look at Sephiroth's eyes to predict his movements.

Cloud always blocks once in his longer combos. It's so fucking annoying and he gets way too much meter with a single hit. I'm sick of these mini games. Thanks for the reference frames, though. Huge help.
EDIT: got it. I was trying to use a combo list from someone over on reddit and crosschecking it fucked up the timing. I just went without it now and got it. Again, the reference frames made it so much easier.

Just to add, if you mis-time your dodge, you'll still block.. BUT, Sephiroth will still gain Limit, and won't drop his guard. So unfortunately, you kind of have to do this perfectly to have any shot of success.
Yeah once you've got his moveset memorised it's all about practicing the timing. So many hours spent on these mini games 😵

Still trying now. Even on the first phase I’m struggling because if he hits you first you might as well restart because it takes forever you to get your opportunity and even then.. sometimes your timing is off and you block instead of dodge it’s so frustrating!
EDIT: Finally did it 20 mins later, just pause and look at the images properly, be patient! Once you get the first hit in your opportunities to hit him back come along faster.

What causes you to block an attack instead of dodge it? About 1/5th of the time I block instead of dodge, resulting in him still filling his limit break bar.
I read it was holding too long as well as timing issues. For me personally my controller may have a little drift as I changed to a new controller and did it straight away.

@@TheGameFatherUK Thanks mate, the only one I beat in the 3D Braaler was the first guy, all the game tells you is L or R when it 2 late. I didn't even know you had to use directions as well

What happens when you get perfect in all 3D brawls?
When I hold the stick in the correct direction and then release the pause button, it often blocks instead of dodges, any idea why?
I do, because that was also driving me a bit mad too! It's because the timing of the move is slightly too late (I don't think you can go too early). If you hit pause at the very middle of the move (like when he gets to his max pullback on the hook) then you'll dodge it.
It took me a little while to get the timing right but once you do you'll fly it :)

edit: I think I figured it out. There is a flash when he does a move. You need to hit the direction after the flash. If you hit it during it will just block. The combo moves is just faster flash.

I pause at the full cockback and holding will often result in a hit or a block. Holding doesn't work for everybody in every fight.
how do u unlock his fight i already beat ifirt but hes not showing up
There's a bonus quest that you unlock in chapter 12 with a Shinra manager. Once you've done that you'll get Sephiroth

I still don't get why cloud keeps blocking for me instead of dodging and so it keeps stacking up his limit bar...
That's just down to timing, you're probably pressing the button just a fraction of a second too late which is why it blocks instead of dodges.
Hello from Greece i don't know what to do with sephiroth i trying so many times and not beat him from some reason the analogic stick not listen on orders before punching me!! I have so many nervous after 3 hours trying and i broke my controller and analogic stick from my nervous pff😤😤

This doesn’t work for me :-(. Did this tricj with every other 3D Brawler with no problems at all. But with Sephiroth it sometimes says Blocked. It feels broken and random. Anyone else got this issue?
Blocked is usually because the timing is slightly too late. I don't think you can go too early, but you definitely get block if you move even slightly too late. The pause has to be at the mid-point of the move. Have your direction and button already pressed as you unpause.
I cant even get to this because the part animal quest is bugged at the bike mini game after the last update. So irritating

I encountered the same issue, if you're impatient like me and don't wanna wait for a patch, you can save your game, uninstall it, turn your network settings off on the ps5 and reinstall the game using the discs (if you bought digitally just go to the download bar and stop the update from downloading then turn your network settings off before opening the game)
got stuck with g bike. game got bugged due to patch. breaking record but stuck there... so sad...

I've been working on this for 4 days. It's really hard to practice, because this is the most unfun and tense activity in the whole game. Two Legs was hard, but at least piano could be fun to practice.
This strategy makes the minigame physically possible to beat, but it does not make it easy. Please stop calling strategies that make hard challenges doable "easy."
It is still incredibly hard, to the point that we cannot even call this a cheese. If the cheese is still difficult to pull off, then it is not a cheese.
Appreciate the sentiment. Like most of the mini games in rebirth, it comes down to practice (and a lot of it). This video shows 2 things, the first is a technique (pausing) and the second is the move list. I can assure you, that once you have both down, it becomes quite easy. Like many others, I struggled with it for hours and hours and hours, but it eventually went from feeling impossible to beatable every time. I'd still say it's cheese, it's not using anything outside the confines of the game but it's definitely not what the Devs had in mind when they designed it. And yeah, you're right, it's definitely not fun 😫
He gets to many hits, 7 hits and then a combo, thats to much but i beated him atleast, the pics helps alot
I beat the mini game the legit way - the telegraphing is hard to decipher, *but their 'limit breaks' or what they are called are the same every time.*

Where ist this game
It's the last boss of the 3D brawler, you get it after the Shinra Manager quest line in Chapter 12 (currently there is a bug with this quest line I believe).

This game is great, but it's also bloody awful.
Have they nerfed these challenges? Not bragging at all, but middle manaager took me 2 days. I sacked this off until just now, then dreaded shiva etc. Did shiva and ifrit in 1 try with no damage, then sepiroth took me 4 atgempts. All my friends said it was un utter nightmare, but i breezed it. They must have nerfed it 🤔🤔

the fact people do these videos, shows how fucking bogus a lot of these minigames are. Ive literally just the combat simulations to do, ive thoroughly enjoyed the game but fuck me for platinum its severely flawed, remake was far better and bearable
I'm on 87/88 Johnny's collectables now with the Gilgamesh island bosses still to do. You've summed up exactly how I feel about the game. It's superb, but man, the mini games can be absolutely infuriating!
Tifa's Pull Up challenge in Remake was the hardest trophy to get. So when I beat her Sit Up challenge in Remake after only a few tries, I was happy to know I got the hardest trophy out of the way in Rebirth only to find out there wasn't even a trophy tied to it.

It's not cheating if, for many people, this is the only way that's physically possible. When the game is designed to be deliberately unfair, then doing what it takes cannot be called cheating or cheesing. Only a neccessary strategy.
@@joehonsberger24 Nah, it’s a skill issue. I cleared it without pausing. Now I can pretty consistently do it (maybe 50% success rate) after practicing it for a while.
