Is it a woofer or a subwoofer speaker?

It's a lower midrange speaker, not even a woofer. Dedicated bass guitar drivers by all the main brands like Celestion start at 10" and go up to 15". A good 8" upgrade speaker (Like the Celestion TF0818 or Faital 8FE200) can usually maintain over 80 decibels between 60Hz to 200Hz, rising to 90+ db across the entire midrange. So yes, they can do some low-ish bass, albeit less efficiently than midrange - hence the need for an oversize ported cab. More than adequate for indoor solo practice.

All the other manufactures use an 8" speaker for their 25W amps. Must be a good reason not to go 10 or 12 inch.

I ran that amp through a 2X15 cab and it didn't sound bad. ua-cam.com/video/_kLEDljUBtg/v-deo.html

Yes, cost and/or weight. They use neodymium speakers on their larger models, but the cost of 1 drive unit alone would be more than this whole amp.

The reason is price and poor sound of 8" speaker makes you buy 10" combo
