To anybody who is getting into sim racing please for the love of God use an ethernet cable instead of wifi. You will have a much better time racing with others when they aren't all pinging around

@@bauleycivic your ping over wifi is going to be 2-3x higher than over a wired connection. Even if you are lucky enough to have a low latency router, if you live in an appartment you are going to have lots of wifi interference from the other routers in your building. Ethernet significantly decreases the risk of a netcode related incidents.
@@Jumpboy5100they sell “wifi antenna extenders” for anyone using a network card with antennas. it’ll let them move the antennas to a better spot than tucked under their rig. id suggest it to anyone with a network card. 15 bucks on ebay
With decent WiFi there is absolutely no problem
@@digglerdiggler the speed isn't the issue though it's the latency. Especially racing on overseas servers that extra ping hurts.
I can attest to the power of the older CPU's in this. I run an I-7 3770 with a 1080ti @ 3440*1440 with settings of a mix of high/med and can easily get 100+fps. There are some settings in the graphics that have huge gains to turn off without the loss of much eve candy. The "Two Pass Trees" options will cost you frames for sure. Turn it off and I bet as you hardly notice if at all. You can turn off the "crowds" which just leaves empty grandstands. I see very little diff in the "clouds" option from High->Med->Low especially when driving and not much when watching a replay.
A couple of the newer tracks are hard on graphics. Hungaroring can be a monster on the card if you go there and a few others.
I started with a G29 wheel/pedals and still run the wheel but I did finally upgrade the brakes after nearly 500 open lobby races. I really think that is where the biggest gains are if you end up wanting a small upgrade (small in sim racing @ 250-350). The brake pedal feel from a load cell brake set is an amazing improvement.

You’re very welcome! The 4GB 1050ti is still a very capable card today if you’re only planning on running a single 1080p monitor.

Just a heads up, to run f1 22 vr youre gonna need a semi-decent computer. I use a 1660 ti and works well enough. Would suggest that with an i5 or the AMD equivelent. Also 16 gb ram is gonna be about 100$ but can find deals regularly

using razor cortex software helps alot with older slower pc, it frees up ram and optimises computer for gaming, gave me +20 fps

Good question. I still have the PC. I would recommend going with something newer i5-8500 or better so that it supports windows 11. Windows 10 goes EOL 10/2025.

If you want a cheap cockpit i can also recommend the GT Omega ART. Those guys have the best customer service ever and for the price its probably the best cockpit out there.
Not sure if you see in the background but my main rig is a GT Omega ART :) But at $500, that chassis alone is as much as the entire setup mentioned in this video. I recommend starting out small and upgrading if you are unsure of how much time you're going to be putting into the game.

I got my set up for less. I traded a Nintendo switch for a older but decent PC (Dell T5500 with gtx970, 12 core, I5, 16 gb ram). Bought a Logitech driving force gt steering wheel and pedals for $40. And picked up an oculus rift VR headset with controllers for $100 new in box. My PC will run iracing in VR at 90fps but in the lowest settings which still looks decent in the headset. Just using my monitor I can get 100-130 fps in high graphics settings.

Will this setup run american truck simulator?
2nd hand i5 4690K, Acer Veriton PC from a yard sale, 16gb DDR3 RAM, cheap 1tb SSD and a 2gb nvidia GT1030 cost me less than £200 total and got me into iracing. Admittedly low settings but still got a stable 84fps.
The 1030 really doesn’t have enough juice to run iracing IMO. I have tried one. 1050ti or better is necessary I think. That 84 fps is the default setting btw…try removing the frame rate cap.
@@bauleycivic yes, unlocked it will go higher. It’s not brilliant by any means and had I had the budget at the time I threw the system together I’d have gone for a better card. My point was that it will cope at a push with low settings and sometimes that’s all you need. Now GPU prices are more sane I’m going to upgrade to a 30-series for my 5600X build.

Good question. I would imagine a 1660 or 2060. iRacing is heavily CPU dependent, I’m sure the i7-3770 would max out pretty quickly given how old it is. I don’t know really how to test that :)
I have an I5 6600 with 16GB of RAM. If I get a RX550 this will be enough? I already have a Racing setup, but I use it on my Xbox Series S
RX550 has about half the performance of a 1050ti, you could try it but don’t expect much
How well does it perform in big servers with lots of people around?
I won a pickup cup race with this rig this past weekend, 25+ trucks around. No issues. Cannot speak to multiclass, I will try to run a carb cup race here soon, that has 3 different cars.
The power supply has been out of stock for a while now and it doesn't look like its coming back, and all the reviews say that it's a pretty crappy product.
Is there a well-rated power supply you can reccomned?
I would not do one of these builds in 2024. The CPU is not windows 11 compatible and windows 10 goes end of life in October 2025. Look at a Toasty Bros build with something with an 8th gen or newer intel.

ATX power supply. If you have a newer dell it will not work, has to be the 7010 or older. 3rd gen intel.
i would reccomend spending a bit more on a t300 wheel as you have the benefit of putting on different wheels for different kids of racing i use the open wheel add on for open wheel and the default for most others
T300 is twice the price of T150. This is for a bare bones cheap entry setup. I do recommend the T300 though, my main rig in the background uses a T300 and TLCM pedals.

@@MrBignick88 I haven’t tried anything except the T300. The TGT2, from what I remember reading, is a step down from the TS-PC/XW. If it were me I’d upgrade to that, or to one of the fanatec offerings.

Hi, thanks for your video ! I do have a dell inspirion g3 (Laptop) with a i5-8300H CPU and a gtx1050 GPU and upgraded to 16Gb of RAM.
My main concern is the power supply on charge, because the power of my charger is only 140W.

@@martinm9160 let me know how it goes, I’m honestly curious. My specs on my laptop were i7 10th gen / 16 gb ram / rtx 2060. Yours should run similar to the setup in the video. Probably med settings, but should get at least 50-60 fps in a full field.
@@bauleycivic Hi, I've managed to play i racing, got out of rookies with some nice FPS with my PC (Around 95 in prac and 70 in race) and the game running smoothly. However I'am concerned by the temepratures, when I'am playong IR my PC is really hot and I don't want to break it. After a race I let my PC cooldown for 20/30 minutes. Any settings/tips that i can use to avoid hot temps ? Thanks !
@@martinm9160 hi, glad it’s working for you. Laptops run hot, that’s just what they do and it’s hard to get around that. The good news is that they are designed to. They are built to run 90-100 degree cpu temps for long periods of time. That being said, you could get a laptop cooling pad like this one to put under it while you are playing and it should run slightly cooler. But it will never run as cool as a desktop. For pc I’m running a gtx 1050ti, ryzen 3 2200g, 16gb ram, 1 tb HDD. Connected via Ethernet as well. For wheel im using Logitech G25 with the included 6 speed Logitech shifter and for pedals using the included 3 pedals (clutch,brake,gas) from the G25. Why do you need a 400w power supply ? What difference does it make ?
1050ti brochure states the requirement is 300w. I bought 400w because it was cheap enough. The standard 240w popped when I plugged in my 1050ti.

Good question. I would probably move to an optiplex with i5-8500 and a gtx 1650, you should be able to get that for about $350 these days. Or do a budget build like on toastybros or pc tech hustle. The pc parts market is very different now than 18 months ago.

This is an awesome video, love the idea of helping people get involved with iRacing, I'd like to throw in a couple of my own tips.
You could get an Ethernet cable instead of a WiFi dongle and you would get a faster more stable connection. In my experience Ethernet cables are cheaper anyway.
The logitech or theustmaster wheels he recommended are more than adequate to get you in to sim racing, however you could get lucky on the second hand market. The introduction of cheaper direct drive wheels have basically abolished the sale of belt driven wheels making them a steal second hand. I've seen second hand belt driven thrustmaster setups for about 75% of what a new gear driven one would cost, if you can find a second hand belt driven wheel for the same price and it's in good condition then I'd definitely go for that.
Lastly, he's totally correct about only needing a desk but for the love of god, make sure to clamp everything down well enough so nothing is moving, nothing is worse than your pedals, your wheel or your own body moving out of place during a race

Would a gtx 970 run triples? Its quite a bit more powerful than 1050ti.
No idea, if you’re going to invest the money in triples I would go with at least a 1660 or better
Not sure about the gtx 970 but my brother ran trips on a 4 gig1050 and me on a 1070. To get good frame rates switch from quality to performance . I use an rtx 3070 now and he uses a rtx 3080 now I still use low graphics as my times are much faster. One last thing is you can try it and upgrade your gpu later if you wish.
Doesn't the frame rate take a shit when you get into a multiplayer lobby though? I'd like to see what that looks like. Simply putting around on an empty track at a snails pace is nowhere near as demanding than if the CPU had to render a full field of cars.
Nope. I've won Pickup cup races on this machine and the framerate runs fine on a single 1080p monitor.

Is there a huge difference between the 9010 and 7010?
9020 and 7010 are basically same computer. The 7010 is preferred because you don’t need a PSU adapter cable.

You could try. You’d have to order a low profile 1050 or 1650, there are videos on people having done that.
The problem with those is that you have to use the Dell proprietary power supply that comes with it.
After my experience with the standard power supply going on mine, I would recommend going with the full tower. Also the low profile cards aren’t cheap so you’ll be paying more for less performance.

I was going for bare bones in this video. T150/TMX are cheaper than their Logitech counterparts, generally. Once you get into the G27's price point, then you should probably start to look at the T300 which is an infinitely better wheel than anything Logitech offers.
How about not putting yourself in financial debt and picking asetto corsa which is cheaper, has mods, isnt yellow and doesnt hold your family hostage if you dont pay rent

You're right. You don't need all that expensive hardware. Because you are not able to spend that money on your hardware - iRacing is a mediocre sim for a hilarious amount of money. The physics are worse than in other sims. The tire model is mediocre. The netcode is bad. The graphics are outdated. The sounds are mediocre.
IRacing is OK. But other sims are OK, too - and they cost 5 percent of this ridiculous money machine.

Agree with all points. iRacing you are paying for 2 things. 1. Racing against the best and 2. Laser scanned tracks. People seem to either love or hate iRacing, I'm definitely the former. And this is coming from someone who has been playing racing sims since 1997.
@@bauleycivic who says, that you're racing against the best? I'm not really sure, of that's just imagination. Rf2 has such good drivers, too. They are 10 seconds faster than me on the nordschleife. Every Lap - and I drive this track since years and I'm getting faster and faster for myself.
Yes: More people are racing in iRacing. But I would say, that the fastest are not faster than the fastest in RF2. :)
But you have to search for communities - that's something you don't have to do in iRacing. It's easier to drive against people that have your speed. But they are all paying that ridiculous amount of money for an average sim...

The T150 is trash compared to the G29 , specifically the pedals
G29 is also more expensive, especially on the second hand market. If you are buying new then yes G29 is superior.
