I took a one day workshop with Joe and it seriously changed my artistic life. A big re-set.

Good Morning from Alberta Canada ..Oh how I wish I could study with Joe!! Ive been painting for over fifty years, and have such a thirst to learn more. He has exactly what I want to absorb!! Would Joe be open to doing a talk on one of your Art School Live episodes for those of us who have a hard time travelling south Eric?

Very good Eric and Joe, one of your best vids. Yes, when outdoor painting it is the experience of painting that sticks with you no matter how the painting turns out, be it good, bad, or ugly, cue that iconic music here of that great western movie. LOL. You will remember the wasp that bit your hand and caused you to mess up your sky as a brush loaded with green paint swept across it, 20 years ago. And the time you fell on ice, almost dislocating your shoulder, while painting a bitter winter snow scene near Lake Tahoe, but later when you went to that nearby restaurant to have a bowl of steamed clams for lunch and a cold beer or two. All that from a trip outdoors to paint, not in the studio where like most folks you zone out and paint and its done and goes in the box with lots of other works to be forgotten or maybe even sold if it's halfway decent. Yes, working with one instructor is good, I did it with a young guy named T.M. Nicholas, for 5 years in his weeklong workshops, when he came to the Tahoe area in the 90's. We later took a weeklong mule pack trip into the Sierra Nevada to paint with a group of other artists in 2006. He is a member of the today's "Rockport School" of painters from Mass. which included Emil Gruppe and others of note who worked in the New England area in the early 20th century. Now I'm in southern Arizona, where there is good stuff to paint Everywhere, not just the "big canyon", including the one, 6x8, I did this AM while standing on my patio, looking at the Catalina Mountains, looming in the near distance!! :D

Ron, I took two workshops with TM Nicholas in 1998 when he was doing them through Pogan gallery in Tahoe city,Ca ..I might’ve met you ..I’m Carol Grigus from Reno Nevada.
I’m Still plein air painting after 25 years.. have sold mostly locally but do have a website. I like TM’s art and even bought one of his paintings, but I never thought he was a very good teacher.. He was young 35 and I think that might’ve been his first time teaching..
      Happy painting !

FANTASTIC conversation fellas. I've had the extreme pleasure and opportunity to take one of Joe's 5 one hour sessions in his studio, as well as a couple studio critiques. Joe has changed my approach and attitude to paining in such a way that my passion has become an obsession. What a great episode. I always enjoy the discussions you and Joe have. Have a great convention. I'll be there in spirit while I am outside painting. Cheers (clink).

You must be connected to what you see in order to be masterful. I’m starting to get back into painting after a long time because of work in other fields.

Would love to see this artist do an underpainting and more. Listening to Joe, I can understand why he is a painter's painter.
