Oled on my iPhone 14 Pro Mac gives me eye strain and headaches. I ended up switching to the SE 3 and I have no issues. I’ll probably get this iPad mini, the lcd screen is a big benefit for me.
Thick bezels doesn't hurts don't they? Iphones now have too much bezel-less imo. Some temper glasses do not fit accurately because of the bezel-less screen, and also for people with bigger fingers/thumb, it actually gave some difficulties to scroll up/down the sides. Decent thickness bezel gives proper border and dimension of the tempered glass too. I just do not understand the chase for 99.9% no bezels on phones. At least it is equally sized on every side don't you agree? 😅
The jelly scrolling is not fixed it's only decreased by around 70%, people who barely noticed it will not notice it now. But people who are bothered by it, will now barely notice it. Jelly scrolling is there and not fixed.
it clicks with your brain... Simple question: Decide (you can only keep one): iPad Pro or iPad Mini ??? - There you go and that is what the market with less then 7% sales also shows us. Even if the iPad mini is awesome on paper... Also i Game on my iPad Pro (11) and have no issue holding it all day. But i have a bigger screen for gaming.
I prefer the 5th gen ipad air. the size is not a great issue for me. the magic keyboard and the possibility to connect it to an external monitor make a huge difference for me.
Don't upgrade. I bought the new one and it overheated to the point where I couldn't even hold it in my hand. I returned it and got a new one and that one overheated too, so I returned it and giving up on this new Mini.
The real question is what are the alternatives?? There's no flagship Android tablet at this size. So the iPad Mini is the only choice if you want a compact tablet, even for Android users like myself.
Mini fan here I started with the 2, was good for a few years then upgraded to the 5, the 6 came out I bought that On the fence about the 7, perhaps it’s time to skip a few gens again
I bought the mini 6 about a month ago and love it. Now the mini 7 is announced but I am not bitter. But I do wonder if the mini 7 will have improved battery life? I charge the mini 6 in the day to get to the end of a work day.
I had the mini 6 for almost a year and I don’t see the reason to upgrade to the 7 right now. Apple Intelligence is not available now and you will need to spend and additional $129 on the Pencil Pro. Best Buy and apple are offering a $230 trade in value
I'm retired and a casual user. Emails and surfing net, reading books. Maybe storing a document in files can I get away with buying the iPad six at a good price now that the seven is out?
All iPads should have an M-Series CPU, even an M1 for the eRegular iPad and this one, or M2 since it's 2 gens behind at 3nm, it would differentiate it from just feeling like a big iPhone.
I was waiting for it with a view of buying it. Ummm. I don't know. For the price, not bothered about pro motion, or Oled, but such a small form factor, those bezels are a bit much. Yeh, a little disappointed. I want it, but something is stopping me getting it.
I love my Mini 6 so much. When I'm doing long reading stints I will put a clear case on it with a pop socket attached - and viola! Life changing. So much easier to hang on to for reading. It's always with me when I'm on the go. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a little bit more for this update - a little more future proofed chip for sure. But, even so, I'll probably upgrade so I can use the AI and new pencil features.
60hz is a deal breaker for an iPad that's gonna be used for gaming. They could have atleast put 90hz on this mini. That's sad. Better get the Ipad Air M2 2024. I have the mini 6 and with minimal upgrade, I don't think it's worth it
Great video. I love my iPad mini, but it’s getting old. You mentioned multi cam recording. What are you using to do that? What are you using for editing? Thanks.
I have a maxed-out Mini6 that I love, EXCEPT for the low brightness. For these aging eyes 500Nits is rarely enough, and the mini is so portable that I seem to want to use it in brighter scenarios than my other devices. Yes Chris, you’re articulate as usual: I indeed *wanted* a different (brighter) screen. And for me, the limitation of the old screen makes the device often unusable for me. I understand that I’m the rare person who’d pay 50% more for a ‘Mini Pro’, and that there’s likely not enough of a market to warrant such a device for Apple’s biz model (and margins). If I had to make a guess, I’ll have to wait until Apple someday makes a foldable phone to get my Mini Pro. First world problems, for sure…! 😂
I bought the iPad Pro 11 inch M4 so powerful and much better than the new iPad mini 7. Also my iPad Pro M4, 11 inch is still very portable and light weight just like iPad mini, but will last much longer than the mini 7. The iPad mini 7 has a pathetic upgrade with a A17 chip. if you definitely want the Mini go for mini 6 and save yourself some cash. For me the iPad Pro 11 inch M4 was a much better investment in the long haul.
Thank you for this video. My maxed out iPad mini should be here tomorrow and I am so excited. When I first ordered it, I had a lot of buyers remorse because of all the negative crap out there about this device. At the end of the day whether I will use Apple Intelligence or not Remains to be seen, but I did want more power for retro gaming, and other gaming that I like to do on this device so having a more modern chip and more ram is going to be great. I think anyone who thought Apple would release a more “pro“ version of this put themselves in a lot of expectational debt.
@2:22 is the real upgrade. People complained when this was announced, but we still haven't fully realized what (if any) major changes Apple Intelligence is going to bring to the devices that can use it. It could very well change the way Apple devices are used entirely. That alone would make the upgrade a no brainer. I understand people may want to wait and see, but AI + Pencil Pro support were the real upgrades here.

Like so many people like you, you’re complaining about nothing. Even if Apple included those features, you wouldn’t buy it because you’re not the market for it. The Mini is a niche product and it’s not their big seller as their regular iPads, even though Apple will sell hundreds of thousands of them. So you, and all other haters need to stop complaining about nothing. You’re all part of that “Android mindset” that feels you need all the “magic tricks” to think it’ll make the Mini a better tablet. @@housepianistyou couldn’t be more wrong. An iPad mini 120hz oled would be a gaming beast paired with the razor controller designed to house it. My iPad Pro M4 13 inch is not the right device for that. This was a lazy release to make it AI compatible just like your lazy argument.

I also like the idea that it will be a fun way to play games and read books on. I’m so excited since this is actually my very first iPad with cool Ai capabilities to boot initially I wanted the 11” iPad Air M2 at first but it’s just too expensive with all the bells and whistles I wanted, not to mention how much more expensive the new iPad Pro M4 is. I figured I would save some money and upgrade to a new apple watch 10 and an iPad mini7 w/256gb instead of just purchasing 1 device like a 2024 iPad Pro or Air. Also I just can’t wait to see what the Mac mini and MacBook Pro m4’s have to offer!
So question, does the iPad mini 7 connect to the external display in a full screen without the black borders (with pairing a keyboard and mouse) like it does on the pro M chip models? Or are we still stuck with just mirroring on this with the borders?
@@Dailytekk That is a bit of a bummer. Even on the pro devices, as long as the keyboards and mouse are detected it will use the entire extended display regardless whether stage manager is active or not. That was something I noticed. So there is no extended display option at all that will take advantage of the whole screen? Only the typical mirroring. Now this is a minor nitpick given the size of the mini, it is suited best as a tablet only. I'll probably just stay with the Mini 6 and use it as a secondary creative device.
just a chip swap so most of the downsides which existed in previous version carries on to this as well !!! also not to mention about heating and thermal issues that came with that chip might cause additional problems as well !! I used it during work for taking notes and also reading in my free time.. and i do light graphics work on it sometimes as well. It's what I grab any time I want to do something when I'm not at home on a screen bigger than my phone because I always have it with me since it fits in my purse. I now only use my ipad pro at home, if i'm doing something in photoshop or procreate that will have a lot of layers.
Oled on my iPhone 14 Pro Mac gives me eye strain and headaches. I ended up switching to the SE 3 and I have no issues. I’ll probably get this iPad mini, the lcd screen is a big benefit for me.
If everyone is wrong, doesn't that mean you're wrong?
😂
We are all wrong, right?
Thick bezels doesn't hurts don't they? Iphones now have too much bezel-less imo. Some temper glasses do not fit accurately because of the bezel-less screen, and also for people with bigger fingers/thumb, it actually gave some difficulties to scroll up/down the sides. Decent thickness bezel gives proper border and dimension of the tempered glass too. I just do not understand the chase for 99.9% no bezels on phones. At least it is equally sized on every side don't you agree? 😅
Best IPad by far easy to hold and write on I use mine all day everyday
The jelly scrolling is not fixed it's only decreased by around 70%, people who barely noticed it will not notice it now. But people who are bothered by it, will now barely notice it. Jelly scrolling is there and not fixed.
Thinner bezels and 90hz like the new Huawei foldable would’ve been a nice middle ground and made this device perfect.
it clicks with your brain...
So the iPad Mini is the only choice if you want a compact tablet, even for Android users like myself.
ohh nexus 7....thing was so ahead of its time
I would buy 2 this iPad mini 7 if it 1000 nits, 90hz, smaller bezels. Everything else can be acceptable. Maybe 16gb of RAM for 512gb Storage options.
My favorite use case for the iPad mini is the Delta Emulator. Nintendo DS in particular looks amazing on the mini 6.
I’m upgrading cause I need more storage. My mini 6 is full. Love my mini 6 though
The jelly scrolling was only an issue in portrait mode, so your scrolling example in the video doesn’t really demonstrate anything
Mini fan here
I started with the 2, was good for a few years then upgraded to the 5, the 6 came out I bought that
On the fence about the 7, perhaps it’s time to skip a few gens again
Mine’s coming today. Upgrading from the 5th Gen.
Thanks for the content.
I would say yes, but I’ve just bought a 7 for less than the 6’s in a black Friday deal £430. The 64gb 6 is £435 on the same site.
Is the screen resolution just as bad as the previous version?
nice vid, thanks! how long did the battery last?
I’m not the target for this device, I use an air for art. But I honestly think the bezel looks cute
All iPads should have an M-Series CPU, even an M1 for the eRegular iPad and this one, or M2 since it's 2 gens behind at 3nm, it would differentiate it from just feeling like a big iPhone.
with that old chip, how will mini handle the intelligence features?
I was waiting for it with a view of buying it. Ummm. I don't know. For the price, not bothered about pro motion, or Oled, but such a small form factor, those bezels are a bit much. Yeh, a little disappointed. I want it, but something is stopping me getting it.
Nobody is mentioning Final Cut Pro works on the new iPad mini
i read someone said mini 7 has an OVERHEATING issue. anyone experienced this?
I love my Mini 6 so much. When I'm doing long reading stints I will put a clear case on it with a pop socket attached - and viola! Life changing. So much easier to hang on to for reading. It's always with me when I'm on the go. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a little bit more for this update - a little more future proofed chip for sure. But, even so, I'll probably upgrade so I can use the AI and new pencil features.
AI c'mon its not that big of a deal anyway and still its yet to be released so better to wait and buy if needed
Thanks.
I hate to edit text on iPad Mini. Try tapping on the word you want to edit. and try the same on android.
Oh - and I also appreciate your comments about using it more in a ‘voice mode’… but I can do that w/ my iPhone as well.
@2:22 is the real upgrade.
Sooooo. IF i watch this Mini 7 on my Mini 6 while doing the Jelly Roll test... Will it Jelly roll...🤷♂️🤔
You should research before start record video. Jelly scrolling occurs portrait mode, not landscape.
Got the new 7 mini , love it specially for travel .
Great review and discussion. Balanced and thoughtful.
The jelly scrolling issue is visible in portrait mode, not in landscape.
Google… it’s fixed
@@Dailytekk this is such a lazy answer, there is enough posts to address it properly. I’m not angry, just disappointed
@@sloppynyuszihe just copied and pasted that awful answer. This channel is such a letdown
@@Dailytekk What's with the whole lazy "Google... it's fixed" response to everyone? I just bought the iPad mini 7 and compared it with my 6th generation. The jelly scrolling effect is still very much present in portrait orientation. It's been improved to not be as worse, but it's still definitely there. Many of us loyal subscribers and fans are simply adding a correction for you.
i resent that i would have to upgrade my apple pencil to bee able to us3 it on the mini
For the price and upgrades given, its not worth it if you already have a Mini 6.
If this was a pro version I would buy it over the 11 as is I’m going for the 11
120hz display, thinner bezels, m wherever chip, this ipad would be the best
8:18 I love the iPad mini but it’s obviously NOT a popular device in terms of sales volume since Apple only updates it every three years… unlike other iPad models.
that reused 60Hz 500 nits screen 3+ years old screen is just pathetic.
at least jelly scrolling is now fixed, as shown in the video 🤣🤣🤣
Like so many people like you, you’re complaining about nothing. Even if Apple included those features, you wouldn’t buy it because you’re not the market for it. The Mini is a niche product and it’s not their big seller as their regular iPads, even though Apple will sell hundreds of thousands of them. People who own the Mini or want to buy one don’t care about Promotion or super bright screens. That’s a fact. Only you and the other 37 people do.
So you, and all other haters need to stop complaining about nothing. You’re all part of that “Android mindset” that feels you need all the “magic tricks” to think it’ll make the Mini a better tablet. It won’t.
Seriously, the only thing you would use a 120Hz screen is to scroll up and down the screen for hours of entertainment. Then you’ll look for something else to complain about. THAT’S pathetic! 🙄
@@housepianistyou couldn’t be more wrong. An iPad mini 120hz oled would be a gaming beast paired with the razor controller designed to house it. My iPad Pro M4 13 inch is not the right device for that. This was a lazy release to make it AI compatible just like your lazy argument.

This is a joke 3 years and they hardly changed anything, iPad mini6 was awesome but I don’t see a point in getting the 7 not much upgrade
Ok, it's time for another quick video on your desk setup.
I’m interested in the monitor or the 24-inch iMac. It looks like you are behind you.
I’m considering the 12 or 13-inch iPad Pro, as I have the Mini.
I saw the gaming review and in many games, the frame rates has dropped. I have lost interest to upgrade since I have my mini 6. With that huge pricing versus the minimal upgrade, I don't think it's worth the upgrade or settle samsung or ipad air m2 with little additional to the price but I'll get way much better tablet.
People are so picky with the iPad mini stop putting it in the iPad Pro or the air
Why it has a huge price if not much upgrade? Better get the iPad air m2
Is it worth to change my iPad Pro m2 for
This one due to portability? Or the m2 is way better than A17 the performance change a lot ?
@@alatorreluis what do you do that needs a lot of power? Unless you editing 4k and add effects and grading on your videos, I don’t see the performance being an issue. Do you do high poly sculpts in Nomad or Zbrush? If no, you’ll be fine. Do you do multi page many layer artworks in procreate like storyboarding, comics or an illustrated book? If no you don’t need it. Do you animate 4k animations in Callipeg that has over ten layers 20 second sequence and have layers with tween effects? If not it won’t affect you. If you need a high end gaming device on the go, Lenovo Legion console or ASUS ROG ally are the better choices than any dedicated tablet.
I have an M4 pro and I do some of those things on it. I don’t need those abbilities on me every second of the day, and I rather just carry my mini 6. It’s too small for those tasks, but it’s perfect to brainstorm and start projects.
@@sloppynyusziawesome thanks , you right I dont need too much power
oh and putting a 17 chip in it was not cool either. the new se phone will have an 18 chip
You mentioned you can use this for multi cam recording. I think the mini is not supported by Final Cut? I could be wrong though
I have been waiting for a niche small size apple device that’s a drawling/note pad with a better apple pencil that doesn’t totally break the bank.
Yeah, I was wrong in clicking to this clickbait. I have mini6 and really cannot understand how can you be so overhyped with...actually nothing new.
This is the perfect table in my opinion.😊
It would be perfect size if those bezels were 2-3mm
That thing needs to be folding at this point.
if this had a 90 to 120hz screen, it would sell extremely well
Did you rather did I hear you saying you use four iPhones and this iPad?!
Considering trading in my iPad Mini to gain the Ai features that are coming. Thanks for your usual great videos. Love your content.
So question, does the iPad mini 7 connect to the external display in a full screen without the black borders (with pairing a keyboard and mouse) like it does on the pro M chip models?
Or are we still stuck with just mirroring on this with the borders?
Screen mirroring no stage manager
@@Dailytekk That is a bit of a bummer. Even on the pro devices, as long as the keyboards and mouse are detected it will use the entire extended display regardless whether stage manager is active or not. That was something I noticed.
So there is no extended display option at all that will take advantage of the whole screen? Only the typical mirroring.
Now this is a minor nitpick given the size of the mini, it is suited best as a tablet only.
I'll probably just stay with the Mini 6 and use it as a secondary creative device.
I decided to upgrade to the samung fe it much better and its 90hz 😊
Is this the a17 pro?
I’ll keep my mini 5. It’s perfect
just a chip swap so most of the downsides which existed in previous version carries on to this as well !!! also not to mention about heating and thermal issues that came with that chip might cause additional problems as well !!
Apple could've at least given it a18 chip and maybe mini-led display with face-id and 90 or 120 hz to make more appealing especially for the ones who eagerly waited for 3yrs who might've got fed up after seeing these lacklustre updates !!!
Looks nice for me I don’t care about the 120 refresh rate!
I wish someday apple make a ipad mini pro version with oled or at least mini led + pro motion display
The bezels look ridiculous by today's standards.
The iPad Mini 6/7 are solid devices. To the nitpickers you can always go to Android….but you won’t so take what Apple gives you 😂

How apple could allow this type of bezel in 2024 is disgraceful.
Really scraping the barrel trying to justify the new mini in this video. In all reality, other than AI, the iPad mini 6 is basically just as good.
The voice dictation thing really makes sense
Would like to have seen Face ID replace touch ID...
Huawei making tri-fold phones and apple over here with 60hz iPads in 2024 with last years chip and 70 inch bezels. What a joke of an update.
I like it to be honest, but I do feel that it has absolutely no difference to the mini 6, plus apple AI sucks like hell ! I'm conflicted ! don't know if I should even consider any of the ipad minis as they honestly aren't worth their price at all! Maybe I'd go for a Lenovo y700 tablet instead!
But it’s typical Apple that they bring out a “new device” and you need to by a new accessory for it ie pencil pro. They could have left the pencil 2
Why not have it support both

The bezel is absolutely dated by today's standard.
How do you want to hold it without that bezel?
@@gardriel8208 do you need bezel to hold? Just improve on accidental touches. Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 and Samsung Tab S10 Ultra have thin bezels yet they can be held without difficulty.

I don’t even agree with his opinions on this device but to any one complaining about the jellyscroll issue in landscape mode - look at yourselves in the mirror and take stock of your life. He literally said it was fixed with some B-roll footage of him using the Mini. And if you know about jellyscrolling, you already know it’s been fixed cause you’ve watched a dozen videos on this thing already. If you didn’t know about it - the information provided is still accurate. Asking to reupload with portrait mode footage - that’s some next level nonsense…
This Mini, like all Minis to date, is just not for me. Patiently waiting for an iPad Pro Mini and fully expecting them to charge way more than it’s worth - the same way the Mini is priced at. All I’m waiting for is the basic feature set that is present on so many Apple devices. ProMotion, FaceID, and OLED/MiniLED display. Maybe in 2027… 🙃
