- (9/9/22) Intended for the Platinum Jubilee earlier this year, now this will serve as a memory to the late Queen, Elizabeth II, whom we share many happy memories of. May she rest in peace. God Save The King.
In Australia, the song has standing through a Royal Proclamation issued by Governor-General Sir Ninian Stephen on 19 April 1984. It declared "God Save the Queen" to be the Royal Anthem and that it is to be played when the Australian monarch or a member of the Royal Family is present, though not exclusively in such circumstances. The same proclamation made "Advance Australia Fair" the national anthem and the basis for the "Vice-Regal Salute".
Prior to 1984, "God Save the Queen" was the national anthem of Australia. In 1975, former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, dismissed by Governor-General Sir John Kerr, alluded to the anthem in his comment "Well may we say 'God save the Queen', because nothing will save the Governor-General!".

I am an immigrant who became citizen of the Commonwealth of Australia because I, as thousands of other people, found a second chance in life which my Republic of origin is all but rotten despite its elected HoS. A directly elected Head of State leads to instability, the better option in the case of a Republic would be the example of Germany, with a President supported by 2/3 of the Senate. That in the best-case scenario.
@言行一致 no, Australia should not become a republic and the referendum failed because people did not want a republic if what you are saying is true then why was there ‘Vote YES!’ campaigns?? The support for monarchy in Australia actually went up when The Queen died and when Charles III abdicates its going to go up higher. A republic system like the United States leads to political divides and instability.
