That is a great sander. Sold dozens of them in my former life. I told people when you flip the switch just think of it like a grinder for wood. Flooring guys loved it for stairs, corners and anywhere else a floor sander wouldn’t work. We were the only Bosch/Makita warranty repair shop in the city. Support your local tool repair shops. Experienced and talented tool repair guys like yourself are becoming more rare by the day unfortunately. Keep fighting the good fight!
Every day is an education, those gears are one clever invention 👍 great fix & saved a fellow professional a fortune & kept his trusty tools in the game,if they're not working then you're not earning. 👍
I used to do wheel bearings for aircraft for a living. We'd heat the whole wheel up to press the bearings out. We had an oven you could pull a car into. We could heat it up to 100c. We would put the races into a deep-freeze at minus 40. They still wouldn't drop in and we'd have to press them in. Mind you, the bores on these were 80mm or so.
Dean going above and beyond good customer service!!! Skill & knowledge = economical repair whereas, otherwise it'd be dead and buried!!! Well done Dean!
Always looking out for the customer I like that fact I wish you the best your content is very informative and I watch because you have values and respect for the work you do and the customers you take care of thanks from USA Florida So keep up the great work God bless you
The cheaper bearing makes sense here. It's not going to die from having marginally looser tolerances, it's going to die of sawdust exposure, exactly the same as an expensive one would.
I don't understand why people don't take care of their tools... i'm an electrician and I carry with me an air compressor while i cut concrete/brick walls with my grinders..every 30min/1 hours i blow them with air. Once a yeah I send them to maintainance. They look and are almost brand new and i work them heavy.
My rule is not time related, but based on look. "If it was somebody elses tool, would i like/enjoy to Touch/Handle it?" No? Clean it. "It doesn't clean up with air+wet wipes? " > strip it down, wash it, full service (if it needs it, aka check bearings, grease, lash, etc). Why do people not care for tools and end up here for us to watch, Packed with wood, plaster and resin ? Because it takes one more trip to the truck/van to carry the compressor and also it takes up 2-3 min "every 30min/1 hours". Plus, now you gotta make another +1 trip to pack and carry the compressor back. Yes, i speak lazy and/or KPM. Ps: just yesterday i've stripped down and cleaned my rotary. And 3 days ago i've washed my screwdriver. Nothing better than an old trusty tool looking and feeling like it was just pull out from the package.
@@IcecalGamer donno brother when i'm on a site, apartament in concrete building or villa or other(in europe mostly) I just carry it to that place. Till i'm done work hours or days its in place. It takes me 30 sec to blow the dust of of the tools i work and blow the dust over me. Because we can't use the 2 wall chaser with vacuum for outlets and other stuff. Whatever works for everybody I guess
Class! Question dean, what brand would you recommend tool wise for someone starting out - mainly metal work ( grinding and drilling) but if riveting and upholstery work/ looking at a drill/ impackter / multi tool all battery powered Corded grinders and heat guns 💪 Thanks 🙏
With difficult bearings you can always heat the base and freeze the bearing for 30min or so. I'm following a car tech from Dubai and he has a small oven for these difficult situations. PS wasnt grease needed inside the plastic gears?
Remember those days when you were little and something really sad happened? And then someone in the family talked you into starting a little project together to distract you? Here we go.
@@deandohertygreaser ahhh watched it again and it was actually a washer, that you did infact put back... 1000 pardens, thought the was a circlip holding the washer on the shaft under the sanding pad. should have known better than to question the master.
Maybe you had experience with a bench combo planer/thickness planer? Like Scheppach HMS1070 or Jet JPT-8B-m? I want to get one maybe you can recommend something? Great video as always!
Maybe for a future job like this you could heat up the actual table of the press to keep the aluminum part at high temp longer (and maybe more uniformly as well), that massive steel block should have quite a bit of thermal inertia.
There is nothing wrong with the bearing. I have fixed 2 sanders with seized bearings already, one Metabo and one Makita. Both work well without bearing replacement. Only the bearings supporting the metal gears provide some replacement benefit. The ones on the eccentric and the nylon gears are not critical. PS. That's why you don't spend more than 50 on a sander - they all respond the same to dust.
Coated pallets board dust will turn that color I sand them a lot and looks just like the old dust gathered up around bench I sand on after months of setting there
I always laugh at how Dean strips machines apart no bowl tor screws bolts nuts just trough them out on the table that man knows his business puts them together like a jigsaw 😅
Thats the old version. The same ones in the new version are the GET 75-150 and GET 55-125 if I am not wrong. Also a cheaper verison is the GEX 40-150 thats also really good at getting much material off but I am not sure of its long term performance because I do not own it.
the Makita, simply because it has metal gears. and each is sold separately, not assemblies. But dont get me wrong they are still expensive, but at least cheaper than the bosch
My Dear Brother Dean, I just thought about something you might find interesting and that is that you say in case you hook up your Hoover which we know as a brand of vacuum but in the United States we would say in case you hook up your shop vac which is also a brand that's a vacuum specifically made for the shop and I'm sure you already know, but it's kind of a generic term for whatever shop vacuum you're using.

I had no idea this type of sander even existed. A rather complex mechanism, but a great solution from you to keep it going.
Festool rotex same principle, 2x the price 😉
I've never comented😂but I'll say a man with experience is worth his weight in gold!!!

Those meshing gears were super interesting, it's amazing how much obscure mechanical knowledge goes into these everyday tools.
Appreciate your advice and tenacity in finding a cheaper solution to the problem Dean.
Good one Dean. Saved its owner a lot of money. Well done.
A fiddly job but as always you show effortless competency. That meshed reciprocating gear is ingenious and not something I have ever seen before.
Dean going above and beyond good customer service!!! Skill & knowledge = economical repair whereas, otherwise it'd be dead and buried!!! Well done Dean!
Today is definitely one of those days I need distracting… Thanks Dean.
Any time!

Nice save for your customer!
Good job nice Repair
Any bearing, especially a cheap one, is better than a broken one.
The cheap one is especially good because it is/was in stock and installed :D
Excellent video! Thank you
A lot into that sander, good job Dean.
Thanks Dean, great repair once again.
That was a great video.Bosch design is definitely superb compared to chinese crap.Hope to see many more good tools repaired

Great info. I have the 1250 DEVS version of this sander and now I know what to do if I see this issue.
So you have both a regular sander and an orbital sander in one. Smart
Nice one Dean great customer care

Great video, can I ask what brand are is your Allan keys?
Amazing how many different machines Bosch have made from an angle grinder body
What would you go for Dean the bosch or the festool rotex?
Amazing!!
The Velcro pad could probably do with been changed, 👍🏻 good vid 👏
Hi Dean. I appreciate your videos. Seems to me that most common job to fix the power tools is change the bearings.
Bearings, power leads and brushes are my bread and butter.
Remember those days when you were little and something really sad happened? And then someone in the family talked you into starting a little project together to distract you? Here we go.
Sadly i cant relate but it sounds great
Maga.
Dean, great video once again. Quick question. Did you put the circlip back? Looked like you didn't in the video.
What circlip ?
@@deandohertygreaser ahhh watched it again and it was actually a washer, that you did infact put back... 1000 pardens, thought the was a circlip holding the washer on the shaft under the sanding pad. should have known better than to question the master.
Neat to see how it works, I have the (newer?) GET version which I guess is very similar internally.
Is this the same design as the Metabo TurboTec?
What are those multi grips your using?
How about putting the bearing in the freezer overnight and the plate in a warm oven
Maybe you had experience with a bench combo planer/thickness planer? Like Scheppach HMS1070 or Jet JPT-8B-m? I want to get one maybe you can recommend something?

Petit commentaire pour le réf !!! et le petit like qui fait plaisir.................🤩
Loctite bearing mount could be used if needed

Next time, heat the part and get the bearing in the freezer
I need something gear-driven. Sad to see it is not available to buy :( any other recommendation?

@ thanks 🙏 get 75-150 seems to be what i need 👌❤️
Good stuff. Would you pick this or the Makita equivalent?
the Makita, simply because it has metal gears. and each is sold separately, not assemblies. But dont get me wrong they are still expensive, but at least cheaper than the bosch
You should peen around the Al after new bearing installation
