I agree with Che in terms of not signing a striker. The problem is that everyone in favor of signing a striker want a superstar player who can go up with us to the Championship and beyond. Great. That dream player costs a lot of money - not only as a transfer fee ($5mm +) but in terms of wages, that dream striker will be on wages far in excess of our highest current wage earner. Now, regardless of how good a bloke said dream signing is, if you all don’t think that having one player earning wages far in excess of anyone else in the dressing room will not cause friction then you are living in fantasy land. I have no problem if we don’t sign a striker in Jan. Especially with Marriott coming back sooner rather than later.
Agree with Chay on strikers, as also stated by Mark. We keep bringing people in as the next hot thing before the current signings have a chance to prove themselves. We have three strikers on loan, along with the ones playing, as a symptom of this. If I were one of our competitors trying to convince a player not to come here, I would point out how many strikers aren't playing or who aren't playing here. (Thanks, as always, for the historical interviews. Wasn't it two different gents being interviewed? Aly first, and then Sammy with someone else, maybe Aly? Definitely two different personalities.)
It's so disappointing to hear previous owners tried to rip players off of cup money by understating the crowd size by 40% especially in an era when they were paying the players peanuts.
Given the difference in typical size and pace of League One and Championship central defenders, Mo Faal might be more quickly ready for the Championship than League One ... I reckon he actually needs to develop MORE upper body strength to be a League One target man than to be a Championship target man. That is, there's a reason he is being brought in for the Mullin/Marriott spot when he does come on, even though he has the height to come into the Palmer/Fletcher spot ... and with next season making a year in the weight room, he could well be physically ready for the Palmer/Fletcher role by that time.
