- Hi welcome to my version of “White Horses” the theme tune from the 1960’s TV Series of the same name written by Michael Carr and Ben Nisbet and sung by Irish-born Jackie Lee. It became a top 10 hit in the UK charts in April 1968. The book The Penguin Television Companion claimed it to be the best television theme in history. It has been copied and used many times since,
The theme song to the German version was played by Ivo Robić.

The TV series dates from 1965 co-produced by RTV Ljubljana (now RTV Slovenija) of Yugoslavia[1] and German TV (Südwestfunk).
The series, called Počitnice v Lipici in Slovenian and Ferien in Lipizza ("Holidays in Lipica") in German, comprised thirteen 25-minute black and white episodes.
My recollection is of watching this series a child and despite the poor quality black and white images and badly dubbed soundtrack the series always had a certain unique charm!
This version is based upon the instrumental arrangement by Warren Bennett and The Vibratos and uses their excellent BT.

VERY NICE NEVILLE, I HAVE ONLY JUST STARTED PLAYING MY SHAFTSBURY GUITAR WHICH I GOT WHEN I WAS AT SCHOOL IN 1982 WASNT INTERESTED THEN BUT NOW WITH LOVELY MUSIC THAT YOU PLAY GIVES ME SO MUCH ENCOURAGEMENT. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE CLASSIC SONGS NOW IM 51 YEARS OLD AND WISH I TOOK IT UP THEN. NEVER MIND GOT THE GUITAR ALL SERVICED AND PLAYS LIKE NEW.. KEEP UP THE GREAT MUSIC.

Thanks for the upload, this song is new to me and by the description I can see it's a Michael Carr song, a composer I have become more and more interested in, he obviously wrote a bunch of great songs, not only the ones we all know so well.
Nice video, and Neville, if you take a look inside that TV set, I'm sure you will find some valves for your computer...

Hi John, thanks very much, I didn;t appreciate Michael Carr's involvement until I was writing a few notes to accompany the upload and had a look on Wikipedia. So there was no planning involved! His name crops up in the most unexpected places and is similar in this respect to John Barry. I think if I am totally honest I vaguely remember that my sister was the one who liked this programme and I would try to switch channels! All the best, Neville

Hi, Neville. Excellent performance of this lovely theme with beautiful guitar sound. I never had a chance to watch the series but it seems it was very popular in several countries. Ivo Robić was born not very far from my hometown and I will try to find his version too . All the best, Zoran.

I think Ivo Robic sang the theme to the German version of the series, possibly a different tune was used, but great to learn he was from near your hometown. I think Michael Carr wrote the music, among other things he wrote a couple of tunes recorded by the Shadows including Man Of Mystery, South Of The Border and Kon Tiki. Take care, Neville
