What's wild to me is that Nina is the only Creature Commando's member locked up in the Belle Reeve prison who actually did not commit a crime. It wasn't even a thing like with Weasel where they locked him up because he is falsly accused of a crime. Nina was locked up for being different and nothing else.
I don’t know if you’re open to to taking ideas for videos, but if you are, I have one for ya. How about a 20-30 minutes long retrospective of The Legion of Superheroes, covering the different eras, lineups, major story arcs, etc. An LSH video probably wouldn’t draw the same number off views as something trinity based, but considering how much Legion-related content has been cropping up lately (Doomsday as the Time Trapper, Mon-El in Action Comics, Darkseid’s Legion in the All In Special, and an appearance by the retro team in the last JSA limited series), now might be a great time to get ahead of the curve with helping new fans get their feet wet with this long overlooked and undervalued corner of the DCU.
Nah. I liked her as a character, too. Her sweet and caring personality worked in the story to "humanise the monsters" and she even helped the bride cope with her trauma. But as a "superpowered" character she was pretty useless during fight scenese and a big liability for the team. She can breathe underwater...that's it. Not much else you can do with her naratively, and Noseferata seems to have the same timid personality archetype, so she can take her place...and do cooler action scenes. Also, not everybody should survive during shows like these, we need stakes.
I hope that gets confirmed as true when we eventually get to see Green Arrow. It doesn't have to be anything big, they could maybe show MLP playing on his TV or something.
I feel this is James Gunn doing his version of Watchmen, at least structurally. Each character gets a flashback/origin episode while furthering the main story. There's a looming doomsday that drives the decisions by a character that is pulling lots of strings. There's a character that feels they need to kill someone to prevent the apocalypse.
As upsetting as it was to have Nina die, I don't want them to walk it back. I don't want the DCU to have a same Marvel problem, in which there is lack of genuine stakes. It's okay if some deaths stick.
@@thehacker4012 probably, but Nina did deserve better and there’s a legit way out. Meanwhile Orca is a very underutilized dc character that needs a proper DCU debut, and one of those ways is creature commandos.
I will say this finale had a lot of pros and cons to it as I do wish the show had at least one more episode to flesh out everything with feeling a bit rushed however I will say watching Nina's backstory with her upbringing and struggles of her disabilities and as a burden to her father just to die by thr princesses hand was so devastating as she truly didn't deserve to die. But watching her origin while just a couple minutes later seeing her die just like that feels very anticlimactic and made Nina feel useless in the overall show. I like how Nina's empathy impacted the Bride as we see her grow past her jaded cynicism and avenge Nina's death by killing the Princess. BTW Im a bit confused what made Illana so dangerous or what her motivation was since we never really got a great understanding of what made her such a deadly threat to other big heavy hitting heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman etc...for the DCU and then Bride just kills her just like that as there is a lot of unanswered questions, but at least we're getting a Season 2 which Im glad to hear since their is still Frankenstein's plot and to see if hell ever grow past his obsession with the Bride
i was a little bummed rick flag didn't come fully back into play in the end and kinda dipped out for a bit to lay in bed but maybe they're saving that for his next peacemaker/superman apperances. i do hope the clayface movie adress the events of this show or explains away his supposed "death" here. i also hope even though the seasons over you keep making videos, they're so great. and please once peacemaker season 2 comes around make videos about it! that'd be so cool
Jenna, just wanna say, I can tell you enjoy this stuff bc of your intimate knowledge of it. Thank you sharing it with the rest of us. That being said, dude, how excited does Creature Commandos get you about the DCU?! This entire series is the reason my hype-meter has gone up for the DCU more than it already has. Also, I was gonna take my time to watch Creature Commandos but you definitely activated me to watch it at like epi 2. So cheers to you! WB and DC need to cut you a check! Ok, couple of things for everyone-is creature commandos going to end up being the show that explores all parts of the DCU? They pretty much have the ability to visit every city in some fashion, so do yall think this show will end up being that entrance point for a lot of DCU characters? Also, how tragic was Nina’s death :( but at least she can be with her pops somewhere in the astral plane. Keep doing you! I’m subscribed and will tell my buddies and send them videos!
Watching your videos after each episode has been a pleasure that made the show more enjoyable. Hope to see more. Maybe with the new season of Harley Quinn? Either way, kudos.
Nina's story is tragic and coupled with the whole situation in the series itself, my heart was pounding at the moment of her death. But I have questions for the finale: What was gorilla Grodd about in Circe's vision? What will happen to Clay-Face in the end: is he dead or will he pull through? But I admit, I liked that Gan kept a secret with the princess right up until the very end. But I didn't really like that there was only one scene in the season finale with Rick Flag. I hope that this will be compensated either in season 2 or in Peacemaker.
Jenna do u have thoughts on the recent discussion about James Gunn's depictions of women in his stories? also i'd love hear more about your thoughts on Princess Ilana and her evil plans
5:41 I’m shocked that in your Sgt. Rock video, you didn’t bring up the Blackhawk movie that’s been in development hell since the 80s and Steven Spielberg chose to direct Raiders of the Lost Ark instead. Besides the Wonder Woman and Shazam solo movies that would help tie into the Gods and Monsters arc, that’s another DCU movie I hope happens sooner rather than later!
I thought this was an interesting revamp of the Suicide Squad idea, but Gunn tossed it off to quickly, and it's crammed with plot holes. The Evil Princess Plot doesn't make any sense. On any level. I see that there was foreshadowing about her character, but the notion that she knew Clayface's imposture would be noticed in time, when she'd done nothing to expose him, was just counting on Flagg to find him out then share what he knew, which very nearly didn't happen. Also Pokolistan is not established as being nearly powerful enough to be a threat to the world, given that one minor supervillain (who sometimes is heroic in the comics), with an army of pathetic incels was easily slaughtering her soldiers in their ineffective armor. Could be there's more revealed in the second season, but my feeling is, entirely new storyline with a changed team, as we saw. I get the story being told, and I liked it, but it was too cynical at times. Students today can be cruel, as always, but none of them, in a world full of colorful superbeings, were curious about this nice young woman who happened to be different, willing to show her any kindness? Her father's reputation as a scientist, at the very least, should have brought her some friends. There were a lot of very old tropes used, and not that well. And to bring Nina in solely for the reason of killing her, so the Bride would admit she had feelings, grow emotionally--fridging. I thought we were done with that. Well, no I didn't. Gunn is one of my favorite writers in this genre, I can't wait to see Superman, but seems to me he was flushing a lot of toxins out of his system here, and overall, I don't think the first season worked, even though the episodes often impressed me. The overall storyline was weak.
If the Princess returns..ill be mad . It doesnt make sense with her Princess motivation so yeah its pretty rushed for some reason. This could of used one more episode
Nina deserve so much better, at least The Bride spun back for her. Speaking of whom, I can’t help but think back to Bride’s backstory & how she was essentially groomed by Victor. It doesn’t sit right with me & I hope she realizes what exactly happened to her next season since Eric is still in play. It’s one of those things where while I don’t condone Eric’s actions afterwards, I can’t really feel bad for what he did to Victor (A.K.A. Drake’s ancestor).
I'm not convinced that the Bride was "groomed" by Victor. I think the reason they were attracted to each other was because they both felt they were on the same boat. As both Victor and the Bride were captive of Eric which is how the two bounded. I don't think throwing Victor under the bus as a "groomer" is right interpretation. It's too reductive and ignores the fact that Victor was forced create the Bride as opposed to creating her to be his "sex toy".
@@thehacker4012 But at the same time, you can understand how a creator having sex with their creation is a little messed up, especially when the creator was the one who effectively raised the creation. And of course, I’m not trying to paint Eric as innocent either. He’s an obsessive stalker asshole in this continuity & deserves to be rejected at every turn since he apparently can’t be put in a pack. I just feel that The Bride deserves better than both of them.
@@Neoxon619 But you're trying to compare Victor with Eric and claiming they are both the same. Which I don't really agree with. I think there is little too much false equivalence with comparing Victor and the Bride relationship with a father and daughter type of relationship. They didn't plan on falling for in love with each other.
