Greetings from Manchester UK...................As an older git..............that reminds me of 70’s funk and the old Shaft movies. Awesome Jon. Stay safe and healthy
Sounds great bro! Is the piezo the disk by your slapping thumb? Also, what brand piezo is it? I've always bought cheap ones from radio shack & they just don't sound that great, willing to pay more for better sound quality on a homemade instrument for sure, thanks.
The reason they sound bad is that the piezo disk has high impedance, around some megaohms. When you plug that straight in to your transistor amp you will get a impedance mismatch. The result is that it will act as a high pass filter, so good bye to bass frequencies. The solution is a: use a 100% tube amplifier, because radio tubes are high impedance by nature. Or, build one of these bad boys: github.com/Supermagnum/piezo-balanced That will solve the issue, and it has some gain too, and of course it runs on 48 volt phantom power, balanced input and output.
@@highwoodguitars I doesn't sound like that. Because, if you plug a piezoelectric element straight in to the input of a amplifier.. The impedance mismatch will cause a high pass filter effect. Of course, it's not a issue with a straight tube amplifier because the tubes have high impedance around a couple of megaohms. The phenomenon is described in more detail here, and the solution to it: github.com/Supermagnum/piezo-balanced
I hear that music it takes me back to the 70s. Some of those detectives shows. 👍

Wah pedal? Yup. Just read in another post. Cool

Brilliant.....what’s the pickup?
This has a piezo disk under bridge and wired straight to the jack.
Thank you, thought it might have had some5hing to do with the disc
