- How To Make Chicken Meatball Curry - Chicken Kofta Curry - Chicken Recipe Indian Style
This chicken meatball curry is extremely delicious. I learnt the trick from my aunt for not frying the meatballs. Frying makes the surface hard and rubbery and as a result the gravy cannot reach the interior of the meatballs. I had been making chicken meatballs in this way ever since I learnt the no frying trick and was never disappointed.
Ingredients For Making Chicken Meatballs -
For the meatballs -
* 750 gm/ 1.7 lb ground chicken. I always buy boneless skinless chicken thighs and grind them in my food processor. Please do not discard the fat as that will make the meatballs taste better. If your grocery store has a meat section then please tell the butcher to make a very fine mince.
* 1 tablespoon from the ginger garlic paste
* 1 tablespoon finely chopped onions
* 1 green chilli finely chopped (optional)
* 1 large sandwich bread. Add 2 if small.
* 1 large egg or 2 small eggs
* freshly crushed black pepper
* less than half a teaspoon salt
* 1 teaspoon oil
* 2 tablespoons finely chopped coriander leaves (optional)
For the gravy -
* 25 gm/ 1 oz / 6 to 7 large garlic cloves
* 25 gm/ 1 oz ginger
* 100 gm / 1/4 th cup plain unflavored yogurt/curd mixed with 5 tablespoons water. if using curd please make sure curd is not too sour.
* 330 gm/ 12oz/ 1 very large + 1 medium onions
* 1 teaspoon turmeric powder (haldi)
* 1 tablespoon Kashmiri red chilli powder. Please adjust proportion according to preference.
* 1 tablespoon ground coriander
* 1 teaspoon garam masala powder. I always make garam masala powder at home -
• 3 MUST HAVE HOMEMADE I...
* 1 & 1/2 teaspoons salt
* freshly crushed black pepper
* 1/2 teaspoon kasoori methi (dried fenugreek leaves). Adding too much may make the curry taste bitter.
* chopped coriander leaves (cilantro)
* 1 cup hot water
* 3 tablespoons oil
Serve this with rice/naan/roti/paratha

Oh my Goodness this is FABULOUS!!! I've just made it for our Sunday lunch - I added cooked cauliflower and peas to bulk it out a bit - and served it over jasmine rice: it's ALL GONE NOW. Made a massive pot full thinking I could have it for lunch one day in the coming week - no ruddy chance of that!!! Thank you so much for this recipe. Working on the theory of 'if you don't ask, you don't get', would you do some large cake recipes using Indian spices like cardamom, cumin seeds etc please - and also do recipes using the Instant Pot? Thank you! xx
I am so very happy that you tried this recipe putting your own twist into it by adding veggies. Thanks so much for your lovely feedback. By cakes do you means chicken patty type cakes?
Looks both Delicious and Fantastic to make with simplicity ingredients...

Wonderful 👍🏽. Happy cooking.
Yum
I made your recipe exactly. Absolutely delicious
I am glad you liked it
Love your dog
Brilliant alternative to ordinary style meatballs. This will be a must try, even for my family who unlike me, don't like too spicy curries. I'll cook mine separately. Thanks for a wonderful cooking experience and idea! 🙂
Leave out the chilli powder altogether and use paprika instead to get that color. You can also use less of ginger as well. Please try in this way and I am sure your family will love it.
@@CurriesWithBumbi Will do and use less chilli for them. I'll cook mine separately Bumbi, as I love my spice! Thanks for the tip. 🙂
Looks Wonderful Bumbi 😁😋👍🏻
Thanks
I can't wait to try this 😍
Please do try it and let me know.

Awesome....really liked your recipe...😊
Thanks
very good explanation of warning tips, great use of sense of humor, I would’ve loved use of finely chopped cilantro & mint, this yogurt sauce reminds of Kashmiri Roganjosh, you’re so true about not frying your chicken balls as it always turns dark and unappealing - I’m definitely attempting this dish asap - another wonderful dish with great presentation ❤
Please do try it and let me know. Thanks.
nice video
So delicious
Thanks
love it ...yummy 😋😋😋
we call it kebaab curry and serve with roti
thank you for sharing ... will try this a d wait for compliments 😜
Thanks Farida
👍👍
I made this for dinner this past Sunday and it was perfect with jira rice but I had a lot of left over which I divided in two portions, one went into the freezer and the other I used later in the week I must say it tasted even better few days later as the meat balls had absorbed more flavour after languishing in the curry for a little longer. Thank you .
I am so glad you liked it. Any meat curry tastes the best the next day or after a few days. Totally agree with you. Thanks for your feedback.
I love your dogo🐶
Thanks Bumbi you are a Telented Passonate Chef ❤️🌹🙏
Thanks for your kind words.
Thank you so much for your wonderful channel. I love Indian food, so many vegetables, lentils and beans and wonderful spices. Very healthy and full of fibre. I have made these meatballs three times so far and I expect I shall make them many more times. You may shudder when I say I add cooked chickpeas right at the end, to make it go further and add some other texture. Delish!
Wow, love that idea of adding chickpeas. Thanks for trying this recipe and I am glad you like it.
Nice recipe.
Thanks a lot
She is extremely good and her recipes are easy to follow and tasty too. Just follow her channel and you will learn a lot. Also what I like about her channel is she replies to everyone unlike other channels who never respond
Thanks for all your love and support for this channel 🙏🏾
Visuals of finally cooked chicken koftas weighed on my empty stomach and challenged my appetite but more so my taste buds started dripping. Though veg koftas are never on my preference list but the site of cooked round balls do tempt me. Now here your with exactly what I always wished for in non-veggie. Well, now this dish does make me swear an oath to try it sooner. 😋🙂
Thanks for the effort.
Please do try it and send me your feedback. Thanks for leaving a lovely comment.
Tried it out.. was great. 😊

Another winner, it was delicious. Made too many meat balls so I now have some in the freezer for next time. Thank you.
Great👍🏽👍🏽. I am glad you liked it. Thanks for your feedback.
A small update. My local butcher made the chicken mince for me as a favour. So I took two portions to him and his partner to say thank you. He told me this lunchtime he ate the lot. His partner didn't get sight of them.
@stephenadams5349 😀. That’s so kind of you to take some for him.
Your family must be very happy having a mom like you who loves cooking for them 😉 😊
Thanks 😊
Please make a beef meatballs curry with potatoes 🙏
Actually I do not cook beef but you can try this same recipe using ground beef. The cooking time will be more.

This is something I can’t wait to try! I have ground chicken in the freezer so should I still run it through the food processor? Thanks! 💕💕💕
Good morning Mary. Knead it extremely well for some time and that will do . Looking forward to your feedback.
Bumbi! I prepared this today for my husband's birthday. The gravy was prepared by my MIL as per her choice but the koftas done by me. My MIL was a little sceptical about the raw meatballs but then the lunch turned out to be "Ashadharon"! The meatballs were really juicy and not rubbery at all
