Finally, I had a chance to explore the great falls up close, actually as close as you can get: I walked down from the Niagara Falls Fallsview Casino to the Niagara River from where I had a great view of the American Falls. Just a few steps further I reached the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, the larger of the two. I had a quick lunch in the Table Rock Center and then headed into the basement where I started to explore a series of tunnels that terminate in two portals located behind the falls. Viewing the power of these majestic waterfalls from these openings and from the outside viewing platform is a truly awe-inspiring experience.
i remember doing the tour when i was a kid. had a blast. nothing beats grabbing a hotel for a couple days and hitting up the casinos, marvel city, the great canadian midway, and doing the tours and the maid of the mist and unwinding like a kid again
It is amazing how much you miss if you live here. I spent the first 12 years of my life here, swam in Dufferin Islands, and my father played a part in the design of the first Maid of the Mist ever used. I miss my home and whenever I visit via internet I get homesick. Thanks for this Video, it really took me back and provided excitement that I took for granted as a child.
Very informative about Niagara falls, one of the greatest fall in the world 🌎👏
Thanks for this. I remember doing this when I was a kid (I live in the area) and haven't been since, and couldn't quite remember it.
Yeah I did that to when I visited the falls. I highly recommend it to anybody who visits the area.
I live in Maine and we were thinking about loading up the convertible and driving there this up coming summer. I think it would be a great trip.
Thanks again. Great video.
ABOSOLUTE AMAZING, I did this trip in 1998 with my parents and just used this video to show others what it was like. So your video was part of a home school program to show an 11 year old in Georgia what the falls sound like.
thank you for making this video
Wow this is great. I am from New Zealand and have not yet had the opportunity to see your beautiful country and of course the Niagra Falls. I have always wondered what it would look like behind the falls and your video is very clear. I hope to one day experience it for my self.
I am glad you enjoy it. It's great when the videos I take bring back nice memories. Have a great day...
Great video,
Thanks very much for posting it. My kids got a kick out of it. We would like to go there someday.
I went there 2 days ago and I love the first tunnel (not the cataract portals) it's very exciting and trust me, you get wet, but they give ponchos. I love it! It's amazing!!!
I was there in October and can't wait to come back. What an amazing place!
I love canada.... and niagra fall... very beautifull
Sometimes I'm glad I'm old. I can remember when you were allowed to walk all the way to the ends of those tunnels and lean out over the barriers. Directly above you, water was roaring over the brink. To each side, the great wall of foaming water curved away, and of course, so did the cliff. Below you, water was splashing into huge boulders the size of railroad boxcars. It was thrilling! I guess erosion has made that view too dangerous now.
i'm born and raised in niagara (30 years old now) and wish I could have experienced the way you tell it.
My pleasure. I am glad it brought back memories for you.
Wow, thanks for posting that. I have always wanted to visit Niagara Falls.
I was in those tunnels when i was a kid if you go to niagra put this tour on your list its a must see
the last time I was at Niagra Falls I was really young so I only remember some parts of my trip :T.T I hope me and my family can go again
Loved it when i was there the noise in that tunnel was amazing .So so loud.Stick your head out for the biggest power shower in history lol.But not recommended
Cool my son and I am going on July. Thanks for the video.
My favorite part was the "100$ fine for destroying park property" exhibit.
I've been behind the falls in those tunnels. it's so freaking loud down there. it's also real cold...even in the summer.
Awesome video! Thanks for posting!
I live close by Niagara Falls & during the late 70's when I visited, the gates were much closer to the edge of the portal. If you stuck your arm out, you could actually feel the water on your hands. In this video, you can see where the gates were bolted into the wall of the tunnel. I was disappointed a few years ago when I went again that the gates had been moved so far back.
I'm sure I'll never make it here, and I've always wanted to see this! Thank you for posting. Nice narration!
Last time I was under the falls in the 1970's everybody wore yellow rain coats and visitors were allowed past that barrier and outside the falls onto a large deck area , the Maid of the Mist would cruise by a toot its horn , I visited castle loma that same summer as the falls .

That is very cool! Thank you for sharing your visit! :)
that was a ton of fun last time I was there
if you look at any map showing the falls, a small part of the horseshoe falls is actually in the USA. concerning this video, all parts of the journey behind the falls are still on the canadian side.
Fabulous, thank you so much for filming and posting. Great stuff !

can't wait to see that on Saturday..... yeah!
ive been in those when i was very little!! and they come out into the side of the falls , you used to walk out..
Great vid. Excellent commentary.
Pretty much. I went there with my family, and the initial plan was to spend some time on both sides, but everyone said not to bother with the US side because there is very little there. And as you said. the Canadian side has the great view of both falls. The view from the US side pales in comparison.
Thank you @Lua Luna - have a wonderful time, it's a great place to visit...
I HAVE BEEN HERE!!!. I WALKED WHERE U WALKED!!!
we watched this in my classroom u did a good job with the video!!!
@shoefan1978: It's great to hear you liked the video. It's pretty loud in those tunnels, and when I was walking through they were pretty empty. It's great the video gave you a chance to see what you missed.
Glad I took this tour in 1961, when you could walk to the end of the portal tunnels and look up to see the rim of the falls far above, and look to either side to see the great curve of the horseshoe, and you could look down and see the huge boulders being pounded by the wall of water. I guess if you don't know that was once possible, this might be okay. The tunnels were orginially designed to give tourists a much more thrilling experience.
Very interesting video, very informative...thanx!!
brilliant video thank you
Very nice!
Awsome!
Next time i go to Niafara Falls, i'm definently going behind there, i've only got to see the top of the american side lol
well done. great work.
I was there in the late mid-60's underground. Still remember it.
great video and info!! Im going in 2 months. Cant wait!!!
I've always wanted to go here! Thanks for posting. I just can't belive there's only a small gate, you would think they would have put up a full barred wall. I wonder how many people climb over that!
Thank you for the kind comments. There are so many interesting places and I love the opportunity to share them. The tunnels beneath the falls were really neat to see.
Very cool! I wish I had known about this when I was there!
THANK YOU
I've done that. It's freaking scary. All you can hear is rumbling overtop of you! I wouldn't want to be the one constructing that!
She's just walking around like she built this place
that is good we got to see it did we not
nice video! I never knew a tunnel existed there and that's another reason to visit some day!
Thank you
I was in those tunnels when I was just a kid and that was when you could walk to the end and see the water
its amazing.... i've been there like 30 times.. in my life because i live right by it hahahah
I've done this, it's really cool.
The video gives you a good idea of the width of the tunnels. It's okay for 1 or 2 people to walk beside, but I would imagine it gets rather tight when there are a lot of people. Have fun in Niagara Falls!
My mom never went to Canada.
Some places she never went that I'll visit.
Hopefully. :)
I did that, that was fun!
Ha! We already did! thats why Canada is a sperate North American nation. I believe very little if any portion is left from the original 1819 treaty on the American side. As I said the US did have a portion but most of it was filled in to create Terrapin point on Goat Island.
@MrOmarksa: I am glad you enjoyed my video. Have a great time when you visit Niagara Falls - these's lots to see...
The big Horshoe falls is actually fully in Canadian territory.
I love journey behind the falls. its awesome! I like cave of the winds better on the american side!
Way cool ! : )
amazing, I only did maid of the mist and cave of the winds
@travelandtransitions You're welcome, have a great day as well.
very interesting!
I have been there!
Thank you for your great insider comments. Sounds like you know Niagara Falls and the scenic tunnels really well. Much appreciated.
Verrrrry cool !
awsome vid
i think they should get the place widers so more ppl can watch it at the same time, also u can see a bigger area of the fall, which will be more exciting...
o cool, cause im going this thersday and i would like to go to that place
@zioband : Thank you for the nice greeting and sending you back a warm hello from Toronto. Ciao!!!
2:28 You are welcome
im going here in a few days:)
Also a SHIT SCARY Experience, what happens if you fall off or something?? that'd kinda creep me out a little but i'd still go down there to see it for myself....those falls are truly majestic...dangerous but majestic...
No I think pretty much the whole waterfall is in Canada. Even with all of the horseshoe the border still isn't fair. If it were, half of Goat island would be part of Canada. I belive the US did have a small portion of the falls but its since been filled in.
when you get a day like that alone down there you jump the rail lay on you belly and inch yourself forward until you are right at the edge. What a rush !
+EddieG Was it scary? I would be shitting myself lol
Comedic Beans not really cause you behind the falls its only mist the falling water is far out. too walk out would scare the hell out of me I would be shaking but when you lay down so much of your body is on the ground that you feel safe. standing or sitting at the edge with you feet dangling would be nuts !
EddieG omg i wanna try this now XD is it the canadian or american side?
Comedic Beans Canadian, but if you get dead or in shit its not my fault you didn't read the signs. lol
EddieG haha XD
@onthisride : Thank you for you rkind comment, I am glad you enjoyed the video. Have tons of fun in Niagara Falls - the Journey behind the Falls is a great experience!
woah.. looks weird with no one inside, when i went there were people everywhere ... but u cant recreate the thunder that is inside there .. its crazy :)
true that, the water looks well strange.
i work at the journey behind the falls and trust me, we all pretty much agree.
I luv niagra falls i went wit my family i went on the boat buh with all the mist it is hard to open uo
The force of that water would still kill you/ drown you while you are tangled up in that damn net lol lol
@TheCleaner001: Thank you for your kind comment, I am glad you enjoyed the video.
Did they move those gates back more in the past 25 years? Maybe my memory is off but I thought we were at least a drop closer when I visited in 1986.
Where are all the comments about how disappointing the final shot of the wall of water really is? That would be my first reaction. I am glad I did the Maid of the Mist instead.
thanx
These tunnels are on the Canadian side.
travelandtransitions Can you go behind the falls any time of the year?
Yes, I just went two weeks ago and they told me that this attraction is open all year.
@CanadaMarquis: Thanks so much for your comment. It's a pretty unique experience, standing behind these majestic falls...
i want to go there
I used to work there!!! :)
nice i like it thanks for uploading is there fee to go behind the falls?
@ahmedraza1995
The biggest and best part of the falls, The Horse Shoe Falls is on the Canadian side.
@HaileyVerge: Thank you for your kind comment. Have a great day...
It's in Canada. I parked on the US side, and the information guy OUTRIGHT LIED to me and said this was on the American side. I was 80% sure he was full of shit, since I'd remembered crossing the bridge as a kid. I crossed it again, and sure enough, there it was in Canada.
