Why Americans are moving to Bali for a better life

- I quit my dream job at age 32, and explored 18 countries across South America and Asia in 18 months, on a world travel sabbatical. I lived like a queen in many poorer countries. But just one place tempts me to leave the United States for good: Bali, Indonesia.
In Bali, I felt the sense of comfort, serenity, adventure and home that I'd always craved, after over a decade of burnout, anxiety and never feeling like I was enough, while living in the U.S.
I met many other millennials from around the world, also healing their burnout in Bali. Bali's magic comes down to its affordability and quality of life. I break down how Bali offers the best bang for your buck when it comes to cost of living for quality of life. Here's why burned out millennials are moving to Bali.
Cool!
I was wondering how you're so good in front of the camera but have so little views. You're going to blow up for sure.
Hey, visit Nepal too once. I know its a little remote but I think you will like it.
Awwww thanks so much, really appreciate you saying that! Ok adding Nepal to the bucket list 😊
Cool! Expat life is a good life. Thanks Helen!
haha, it sure is!
South East Asia is very hyped right now, many priviliged Russians and Israelis are in Thailand for example. I don't think many of them will really stay there long term. Remote workers will have the best chances, but there are also dangers, because even working remotely is illegal on a tourist visa in Thailand, I don't know about Indonesia, but I think it is the same.
What I noticed in your video, you seem to hang out only in the fancy areas of the island and enjoy a fancy life style with other foreigners, that won't go well for a long time. Maybe you are making short term friends, but they will probably all move back were they came from after a while living in paradise.
In my experience people who are staying long term abroad, they engage more with the locals and live a more humble life. Once you got used to this life style it will get boring after a while. I've been through it. It's living in a bubble.
I have to compliment on your video production quality though, that is superb for such a small channel. Do you have an instagram husband who helped you filming all this?
Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment! You’re right that I did spend time in a lot of “fancier” places on the island with foreign friends. And yes one of the difficulties of being in Bali is friends are always coming and going.
Why does the lifestyle engaging with the locals and living a more humble life get boring?
And NO! No instagram husband 😂 I was a professional video producer and journalist for 5 years at CNBC. I shot and edited this all myself except for a few of the drone shots which I sourced from a website
@@helenjzhao sorry I meant the fancy life style gets boring after a while. Maybe it also depends on the person, don't get me wrong, I also enjoy this life style from time to time, but sometimes I feel I get too much used to it and it becomes normal. I like to ground myself and appreciate the small things more.
@@helenjzhao your experience really shows in this video. Looked all great and high quality.
@@bl4d3runn3rX ohhhh got it! Yes 100%. I think everything actually gets boring after a while, if you do it too much. I quit my job to travel for 1.5 years, and traveling definitely got old after a while. You become kind of numb to the novelty of seeing new places all the time.
Great video. Look forward to more of your videos. Can you talk about the visa options for long term stay in Bali, or did you just do the visa runs?
Thanks so much! Unfortunately I did just do the visa runs. I would extend once for a month and then leave and come back.
@@helenjzhao cool! Thanks for the info, look forward to more of your videos. Your channel is gonna grow quick.
@@RC94332 awww that really means a lot!!
For such little subscribers you are good at speaking. You must professionally be a public speaker?
I was an on camera video journalist at CNBC for several years!
@@helenjzhao That explains it
2:01 I want to party with you!
18 countries and then chose Bali. HAHA, Well Paid Video.🤣🤣 Best Wishes from North East India.
Haha! Yeah it sounds super cliche, but I learned first hand there’s a real reason people love moving there!
