Ah hah, I see a familiar looking pair of feet. Cheers Kev. But seriously this is another Kiwi masterclass. It’s not only a how to video but a what you can do. Hope that makes sense.
Kiwi YOU ARE 100% BEST at what you do! MOST Important part is.. YOU ARE A HONEST MAN!!!! 2 things that are HARD to find in this day and age! LOVE what you do!
Nice work Kiwi, and that's coming from a 'keep it basically stock purist'. 😂That doesn't change my appreciation for your skills one bit though. Personally, I'd have taken the measurement from the door lower edge than the floor 🤔just on the off chance the car isn't level, though you would have made sure it was. And thanks for sharing it with us all. Many don't appreciate the time and effort it takes to make a 'simple little clip' like this. Cheers.
I didn't really explain myself very well on that, the measurement from the ground was just for level with the ground. The height was determined from the factory hole in the door skin, top of hole to top of hole😁
Honestly it blows my mind that you don’t have a million subs ! I love what you’re doing and I’m always so in awe of watching you do what you do day in and day out ! Fairly quick on the video but what was the real time for one side ? …. 12-20 hours ? People always wonder why custom body work is so expensive 😎 Second side is always faster lol. Take care man
Good spot for a cheapie laser level. It might be best to match a body line vs make it perfectly level but at least you know what is perfectly level as a reference.
Before measuring the cutout from the floor, make sure your car is setting level. The cutouts could be off from one side to the other if your car does not sit level because of weak springs.
I didn't explain that very well I'm sorry. The height of the new handle was determined by the old door handle hole, top to top. The measurement to the ground was to determine the level with the ground. Then a step back to ensure its looks pleasing to the eye. The eyecrometer is an invaluable tool!!
12:43 looks like you need to grind a bit off the front lower part of that handle to even up the gaps. It probably just looks funny because the handle is mostly flat in that radiused door.
I feel like those door handles should be on the other way around. I'm sure you did it right, but I think it'd be more ergonomic to pull the handle if it was sticking out more towards the rear of the door. I guess it's designed assuming you're opening the driver's door with your left hand. But like, you could just as easily use your pinkie finger. Plus this way I feel like the handle is more likely to catch the wind and flop out while on the move. Not that it would open the door, but still.
They pivot that way to work with the factory latches. They are spring loaded and close quite firmly so I don't think they'd ever catch enough wind to pull on them. You're not the first to suggest the reverse operation though so......
Morning Kiwi , great idea to add those door handles . They will make the car have a smooth look . I guess you could use those handles on a car that has electric door locks also ? Don't see a reason they couldn't work .👍🇺🇸 ✌
Absolutely NO disrespect meant to a man of such skill and knowledge, but just curious. Why not measure relative to the frame? Seems like a good baseline relative to the lines of the body.
The height was determined by the factory door handle holes. I put the top of the new hole at the top of the old hole. The measurement from the ground was to determine the level with the ground. And as with all measurements take a step back and check to see if it "looks rights" my eyechrometer has saved my ass a couple of times 😬😎
if there's no keyhole, and assuming that, like the majority of heavily customised cars, it likely won't be used all that often...how do you get into the car if/when the battery is dead and thus the unlock fob doesn't work? Do you install a set of external terminal posts/studs somewhere so there's a way to connect a jump pack without being able to open the doors? (Assuming the hood/bonnet isn't solely on an external latch, of course.)
If the car has an external hood latch it's no problem. If it has an internal hood release then we add a provision to jump the car somewhere that's not seen. Thanks for watching😎
A highly skilled fabricator with integrity who also happens to be an excellent teacher. Good o 'ya, Chris.
Thanks man and thanks for watching!
anyone that make anything look "easy" is what seperates the men from the boys...!...beutiful work Kiwi...always a plesure to watch...thanks..
Thanks man and thanks for watching !!
You never fail to impress Kiwi. A nice uniform reveal all the way around. The more I watch you go the more tempted I get to get myself in trouble 😂.
Go for it man!!
Always a pleasure. So much better than politics.
Most things are better than politics...😁
Nice job Kiwi 👍 great tips
Thanks man, glad ya got something from it😎
Real quality work
Thanks man!
Great vid Kiwi, those handles are cool as and well worth the extra grinding and shaping etc Can't wait to see the final finished result mate!
Thanks man and thanks for watching!
Although I don't like them for my Car.. I believe what makes them unique is chrome and mechanical functions.. but I also believe in do as you want
That's what hot rodding is about. Makin it what you want it to be! Cheers mate!
Cool car Kiwi. Never seen an XR-7 fastback from that era. Cougar was my first car.
They never made a fastback so that'll be why😁😎. We grafted a 69 mustang roof onto it!
Nice. Condensing probably about 8 hours of fiddly, exasperating work into 12 minutes and 52 seconds. That build is going to be a beaut when it's done.
That's pretty close man😎
Ah hah, I see a familiar looking pair of feet. Cheers Kev. But seriously this is another Kiwi masterclass. It’s not only a how to video but a what you can do. Hope that makes sense.

Great video, nice job getting the handles to fit smooth.
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Very similiar to my 70 Grand Prix door handles
Yeah somebody said that too!!😎
Very nice tutorial on how to install those door handles Kiwi. Very clean looking for sure. Best of luck to you on your upcoming road trip mate..
Cheers mate, thanks!!
I saw you on uncle Tony's Buick nailhead video and I subscribe to your channel.
Welcome aboard, hope you enjoy!!
Kiwi!
Hey bud!
Great vid Kiwi! I was first introduced to you when you stepped up on the 69 Charger build/bodywork, then onto Tony’s channel.
Nice work, I’m subbed.
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it!
Happy new year Kiwi! I always learn something new from your videos! Cheers mate

I was just thinking if the car was slightly up or downhill, front to back. 👍

A million would nice 😁. Took about 9 hours to do both sides. Thanks man!

Those type of handles were on 70`s Pontiac Grand Prix`s
I didn't know that👍
Another retrofit master class from Kiwi! Love it!
Thanks man and thanks for watching!
Awesome Kiwi! Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
I hope you have secured the Hemi parts since the UTG upload. Tony showed every detail necessary for a burglar to clean your collection.
On Purpose.
Always an eye for the details and quite the craftsman. Cars looking great 👍.

Looking good Kiwi. I think a roadtrip will be a good change of pace for you! Safe travels!😉
Thanks man. Hopefully it will be fun👍😎
We are enjoying your informative videos and it is great to see you keep your Kiwi connection.Happy New Year from another Kiwi.
Happy New Year mate and thanks for watching!

This car will have electric door locks, that's why I deleted the lock barrel. My Mustang is the same.
Slick setup BrotherMan 👊🏼
Cheers mate😎
Nice, I like those.
Cheers, they're slick for sure!
Looks like you have a handle on things.
LOL, hopefully😁😎
My rule would be to make the straightest edge of the latch handle, top or bottom, dead parallel with the rockers or door bottom.
That's not a bad idea. 😎
Absolutely NO disrespect meant to a man of such skill and knowledge, but just curious. Why not measure relative to the frame? Seems like a good baseline relative to the lines of the body.

I really like the flush mount door handles, though, I would like to see them pull up from the rear of the door instead of the front.
The only tricky part with that idea would be making them actuate the door latch. But I'm sure there'd be way
cool
Cheers mate!
I’m still reserving my judgment until completion, but my o my she is looking sweet.
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
It should be measured of the door that way its always parallel wiith the car no matter what the ride height is
Does this get painted?? If so how do you get paint in and under the handle?? Great video as always Kiwi!
Yes it does. The handle has to be removed for painting
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Thanks for the fast reply!
You no Italians had these on there cars in the 50s he didnt invent them just saying.hi from New Zealand 🇳🇿
But he does have a patent on them....

Are you using that hood?
Possibly. A superchrged Coyote engine is going in so I'm expecting some clearance issues😬
how do you lock your doors ?
It will have central locking with a remote.
ok good @@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160
