I suspect that the diamond defense is weak against quick give-and-go from player posted in the middle of diamond or making diagonal cuts across. Seems reasonable as a base formation.

No, cause you're not going to press or get close your opponent player too much, you'll not allow him to go 4wrd, delay him like it's 1vs1 and you are the last man.

@@shakrashorts sorry I don’t understand your point. Every strategy/tactic has a weakness and that is this strategies’ weakness IMO. It can be somewhat mitigated but it is still vulnerable to it. The storm the middle approach is not a good counter as it breaks you “formation” plus quick one touch passing happens to quickly.
