For me this Celtic hymn is a masterpiece. Troy's voice is perfect to this kind of musical landscape. Excellent harmonies and a clear Jethro Tull vibe. As you noticed great to sing along due to catchy chorus. Thank You!
The first part is slowly growing on me, but everything from where the instrumental section starts is amazing. Especially when that ominous bass line comes in right before the pipes/guitar riff kicks in. That gets the goosebumps going every time.
Thank you for doing this. I know you are busy. I am glad you have thick skin. lol I know this is different for Nightwish. But I really liked it. I love Troy, Floor, and Marko's harmonization. Tuomas said there is a lot more of this on the album. He said there would be one song for Troy and one for Marko. So I guess we know the Troy song. Take care and be safe............. :-)
I think you're right. I bet it's going to be great live. Too bad I'll have to wait 2 years before getting to see that. Possibly more, depends on if this tour gets postponed because of the virus going around.
Must agree with everything you said about the song, but also say that this song is probably not for the casual listener seeking immediate gratification, but for those willing to devote some effort & multiple listens to really appreciate the music & lyrics. Like any great poetry, Tuomas' lyrics are open to many interpretations. For me this song is a message from death to us humans. It contains a reminder that death inevitably waits for us all (i.e. we are death's harvest), but also advice on how to live our lives to the fullest ("Offer light to the coming day") taking care of one another, our children and planet for generations to come ("Inspire a child", "Water the field"). Here you can find the lyrics genius.com/Nightwish-harvest-lyrics For me, verse 1 is death personified telling that once we are born ("Tiny valorous straw") we will also die, but between birth and death we have time to live a life and make the best of it ("Something unsung our way comes"). Verse 2 tells that nature teaches us that every living thing must die, and death is always present (The strange peace of storm hovers over crops), although as children, we don't realize it or worry about it ("And a child's face aglow before the scythe"). Verse 3 (or the chorus) tells that humans are no exception but all living species face the same destiny ("Join the harvest of hundred fields") in death ("All going back to one single grain"). However, we should live our lives to the fullest without fear of death & inspire the next generation to do the same ("Inspire a child" and "Water the field") before we die, i.e. "surrender to the earth". For me verse 4 is difficult to interpret, but I think that it tells us that although we could enjoy life to the fullest ("They have beauty beyond all poetry"), we tend not to do so ("But choose a silent misery"). And the more we let that happen ("The deeper their sea"), the less there is to enjoy ("The less remains"). There are also those that try to control how we live our lives ("They find the pretty words and tame flocks to herd"), but we can choose to resist and enjoy our lives to the fullest ("a carousal of dare") Finally "Arrive alive" means that one should live his/her life to the fullest (i.e. be alive) before it's time to die (i.e. arrive to life's destination in death). P.S. It could also be that the 5 crosses that one sees in the lyrics video refer to the five stages of man's life: conception, birth, life, death & decomposition. Others have also interpreted them as the other five members of Nightwish among whom Troy walks in the video, although why would just Troy be alive & the others dead?
I'm sorry Dave but this score thing you do is kinda insane. I love you, but honestly how can you give Tuomas and his band a score such as 8? It's not bad score, but his lyrics are one of the kind! No one writes like him now days. Do you even know what the song is about, for you to judge it? I'm sorry but I've heard some of your own stuff, and ur not fit to preform in a garage, let alone give Tuomas and his band such a shameful score!
8 out of 10 is a very good score, its a different approach rather than just saying i like it or don't. It also gives people a chance to debate. I agree my music is personal to me and what i love doing and appreciate its not for most people but each song has a story and a meaning behind it, they are personal and tell a story about a time in my life. Every fan wants to give their band a 9 or a 10 and there are a few tracks from a few bands that get to the 9 etc. After the top 10 challenge videos have been completed il be changing the scoring process to be just 4 topics and they will be more around emotion and vibe. I appreciate you leaving the comment and sharing your thoughts as it helps develop the channel
Remember, we all have our idiosyncratic tastes in everything, music included, and we should respect the opinion of others as well, even if we don't agree with them. Besides, even Nightwish has better songs that deserve 10/10, so I'd say 8/10 is fine by me.
This is Dave's channel and we must be friendly guests here. He analyzes well and shows his liking but the exact scoring is IMHO always tricky when we are doing with art and performances of the caliber where Nightwish can easily reach. I wish all the best and good night to all!
@@pekkakarppinen1608 cheesr for the comment. The scoring system will remain in some degree but will change after the run of top 10 challenge videos finish and will be more around emotional impact rather than technical. One thing i will also be looking to do is when the videos are playing il have the lyrics going down the side of the screen so everyone can see them at the same time.
Great reaction and review, thanks for watching this one. I am in love with this song!
its very different from what i was expecting but in a good way

Very catchy tune indeed, should be a good live performance video
Dave Does they'll do the live video of the world tour, but the Corona world tour is now messing up everything, unfortunately.
Nice Dance track from Nightwish! Really waiting to go a party and Dance this! :)
Get down and boogie :-)
