Orca’s are the pinnacle of natural evolution. No animal that’s ever lived in the waters could ever out think or out muscle a pod of Orca. We used to have a whole colony of seven gills at a popular dive site in SA but they haven't been seen there in a few years because of the orcas. Also no great whites in Cape Town for a while
The great whites started disappearing a couple years before orcas moved in. Also there are actually more sevengills in False Bay now, because fewer great whites.

In some areas, sharks are found in flocks. such as tiger sharks. I don't think orcas have entered these areas. because they are outnumbered. but great whites do not congregate except to mate. Yeah you don’t live without your liver, they also target the liver of the big rays they get here, they come around a couple of times a year to target our local rays, often coming very close to shore. Usually around February. One of my friends was diving near our port and had a large female and baby come over to investigate him very close to eye ball him. He wasn’t too worried as it wasn’t the first time, but his diving buddy hadn’t seen them till he surfaced and was in the boat

As we deplete the sea of fish stocks the orca move to different prey sources.
One of the most endangered whale species on earth, the narwhal, is losing its protective sea ice shelf which has shielded them from orca predation for centuries due to climate change, and the orca are taking advantage of this, invading it's breeding grounds and devouring whole nurseries...

It seems sort of wasteful on the part of the orca. After all, how many orca can be fed off of one shark liver? I know the carcass will be a feast for organisms below, but still... yeah im interested in this too
Orcas are intelligent and successful hunters, I imagine they do it as a game for a tasty snack.
It does leave food for other creatures tho !
@Gib Ytoob
Orcas don’t use their intelligence to increase variety in their diet (at the population level); instead, each orca population is specialized for hunting a limited range of prey using only a small (learned) selection of highly effective hunting behaviours, taught to calves by their elders.
For example, the Antarctic Type B Large orcas are the only orcas that are able to use wave-washing to hunt seals because that technique isn’t found in any other orca population.

Orcas: laugh in playing with their prey
@Casper Orcas move their prey around as practice, either teach their youngs that, or knock their prey unconscious. They don't play with their prey, that is a big fat myth. Cruel means to bring pain, or suffering, which is not what they do with their prey when knocking them out cold.

Less and less fish in the sea means that Orcas have to change their diet!
Except orcas refuse to change their diet even if they really have to, ironically because of their intelligence; each orca population has its own culture that targets a small number of prey species using a small number of techniques, and they rarely diverge from their culture even if they’re literally starving to death (see: Southern Residents).
