Thank you very much for this video! I always enjoyed the readability of Moffatt's version, but it is nice to have your explanation of the reasons for its numerous idiosyncrasies.
Thank you for your fine review ! I bought a 50"s copy of Moffat's Bible this week for $3 at a library sale - like new ! I didn't really know anything about him, just looks unique.
I recommend this book for you: The Documentary Hypothesis: and the Composition of the Pentateuch Eight Lectures Paperback - March 12, 2016 by Umberto Cassuto (Author)
Today I Picked up a 1950's version of this Bible at a Christian Thrift store for literally nothing. I knew nothing about James Moffett before today. I find that whenever one person Translates the Bible, no matter how well seasoned the person is regarding Biblical Scholarship, I always err on the side of Caution. But from a different video I understand that he wrote this as more of an devotional Bible which to me makes sense but still. Also I find his layout or the New Testament books interesting since right now I'm reading through the New Testament in Chronological order, or the timeline in which the books were written (According to the Bible Gateway website) I'm going to have to write down his list of the Historical New Testament so I can read the NT in that order sometime. I found this video to be quite informative.
Thanks for the video. I am looking at some NT Commentaries, and wasn't familiar with Moffat, so your video came up. It appears he was affected in his theology by Higher Criticism. I'll take a pass on purchasing his commentary on James. Thanks again!
There once was a scholar named Ehrman, who though he was mostly a fair-man, they said he did err and was full of hot air when he was just a truth-and-dare-man

At first when I heard the tinkly piano I thought 'I don't hear no rave.' And then it hit me!
