The OYO because it is easily the worst hotel on/near the Strip in my view. The building is old and the rooms have issues that require major repairs. It also attracts a bit of a seedy element to the area around it. A close second is the Manor Motor Lodge that is attached to Circus Circus for the same reasons.
I was at the implosion of the Dunes. I got out there very early and was as close to it as you could be - kitty corner at Flamingo and the Strip - without being a VIP. You need to go see one. This one set the bar for implosions and they’ve only gotten better since then. A few things about the Dunes: the owner had neglected the hotel and casino for years. Before the implosion, they were selling everything and anything they could from the hotel. So I went to go see what the “high roller” suites looked like. They still had that old ‘70’s shag carpet in it. Nothing had been upgraded in years. There was a golf course that ran the entire length of the property, behind the hotel and casino, right next to Interstate 15. The owner was an avid golfer and put all of his money into the golf course, which was beautiful, but a complete waste of such valuable land… Which is why Belagio was able to build a much larger hotel and casino on the same land, even with the huge fountains in front. That golf course took up so much land, that place was just aching to be redeveloped. I’m a huge fan of the old, classic, Vegas. But even me, being the old fuddy-duddy that I am, have to give credit to Steve Wynn (despite his personal mistakes) for the imagination and vision that he had. We have a much better hotel and casino now, which brings far more entertainment and fun to the Las Vegas Strip than the Dunes could ever hope to do.
Went to vegas with a bunch of friends, a few of them saw cris angel, at the end of the show he came out and hyped his new act and talked them into paying to watch it. It was directly following his main show, once the new act started he walked out into the audience and sat down to watch it with them... they were not impressed lol.
Also his main act was 60% hype for what he would be doing... at the end he was hoping the audience would cheer for an encore, the audience didn't cheer lol
Thanks for the updates. Sad to see so many iconic places being torn down. I know it's inevitable, but it's still kind of sad. Keep up the good work. Stay safe.
If it goes it goes, it's not as sad to see an almost 70-year-old property go than something so new like the Texas Station which barely made it to 25 years of operation.
Shawn been watching your UA-cam channel & subscribe as was involved in the Las Vegas Beach Resort back in 2006. Thank U for keeping me updated on Vegas as I had to relocate near Tacoma WA due to hemorrhagic stroke. Love to share with you info on Station Casinos strategy down by the South Pointe. I was in Vegas last week and there is a definite shift in vibe there! A whole new voodoo 🤣. That new feeling is carrying over into properties and remodels. Vegas is going to be a very different place in 5 years.
(1/2) During our first trip to Las Vegas in 1991, we stayed at the Tropicana, Caesars and the Dunes, where we were married. We stayed at the Trop for a renuptial and a few times after that. We always liked the pool and the vibe there, and after the Miami-style renovation, it was nice.
So happy I don't have to wait till the end of the week to see you guys. Very interested to see what Bally's plans are for that property. Thanks for all the info.
Tropicana has the oldest hotel rooms on the Strip. Sahara's oldest rooms are from 1960, Flamingo's oldest rooms are from 1977 and the Trop bungalows are from the opening in 1957. It looks as though the Strip from the 1950's is going away forever.
I own a fairly large travel website where we focus on travel rewards, miles & points. So the site name is Miles to Memories and sort of used the same brand when we did this for the Vegas stuff.
Le Reve was my favorite, saw it 3 times. The athletics, set designs, and costumes were amazing! I recommend Mystere for CDS newbies. It provides all-around entertaiment. I was fortunate to go on a behind the scenes tour of Mystere for locals about 15 years ago- that was amazing too!
My dad opened Le Reve as a maintenance diver. A lot of people don't know the original show was terrible. I remember falling asleep during previews. They tweaked it several times the opening year and finally figured it out. I agree it was a great show.
I liked Le Reve, too. At one show, I got to hug one of the four nerd-guys to make him feel better. That was early on its run, before their parts were shortened.
@@Milestomemories oh my. You missed a good one. They would perform right over the pit while folks were playing table games. Another classic was the impersonators as dealers at Imperial Palace. Alice Copper was my roulette dealer once. 😂😂 I miss old Vegas. Great channel guys
I accidentally went to Atlantic City's Sands the night before they shut down (I think they shut down at 5:59am the next day). Anyways, it was one of my favorite, most memorable visits to a casino. The staff left the trash on the floor, they only had beer and ice cream at the restaurant; it made you feel like "you really did something." If you have a chance to go to a casino the night before they close, do it. You feel like you won, even if you lost a lot of $$ there
That dome stained glass ceiling you like actually was part of the old catwalks. If you look at it you will notice these circle spot evenly spaced out......that where the agents would sit and look down because we can see down you can't see up. Just thought you would like to know. How do I know? I'm the eye in the Sky guy
Yep definitely built for surveillance. One thing I learned that I didn’t previously know was that it only dates back to when the first tower was built. For some reason I thought it was older.
I really hope they repurpose as much as they can. Lots of memories there,The Flamingo,The Riv. I know I'm old school but I've stayed at the newer properties(at least new for that time),in the past, but never felt the same type of connection. I saw Mystere in 94. True showman rip.
Somewhere in all my stuff I'm pretty sure I have a souvenir glass from the Stardust along with a Seigfried and Roy program (Mirage)and maybe even a program from some show that was at the Rivera that featured some guy that dressed as Joan Rivers. Glad to hear you guys are going twice a week now.
I used to love the museum they had inside the Trop. Old LV memorabilia and I think it was free and you could buy some of the stuff. Also the aerial trapeze acts going on inside that dome above gamblers. I popped in there in May this year about 9pm to try and find something to eat and struggled to find anywhere open. So sad.
I never stayed at the Tropicana but did gamble there several times. I do hope they preserve the gaming area with the vaulted roof. It made it a special place to play. I even played roulette there for the first time there. By the way I don’t think they will sell the Tropicana buildings for a sports stadium since Bally’s only owns the buildings not the land under them. They have a long term lease on the land with Gaming and Leisure Company that owners the land under the Tropicana.
The only sentimentality I have for Tropicana, it was the first hotel i stayed in when I first started coming to Vegas regularly for my 50th birthday back in 2013
@@Milestomemories I've mostly stayed at MGM properties, so I would have to say Park MGM is my fave so far. I will be staying at The Mirage in November as a bittersweet farewell to the property
I hope the A’s move to the area near Circus Circus, but if they move onto the Trop property, it would be cool if they could integrate the bungalows into the outfield somehow. Those could become super premium rooms for baseball fans.
Bally’s was very aggressive the last 3 years in acquiring properties across the country. The portfolio is ok, with one Goliath in Hard Rock Biloxi and a few market leaders (I.e. Dover Downs, the two in Rhode Island). IF (and it’s a big if) they continue the Harrah’s strategy of acquisition, the next step is to create a unified players club, which right now they don’t have. If they accomplish this, and make the comps/rewards slightly better than the general Caesars offerings, I think they could be a huge player in 5-10 years. I’m disappointed how slow the they are moving now, but it’s probably low priority for them. As far as Trop, I doubt they sell the land as that doesn’t feel like how they are moving. I’m glad you’ll have two shows a week. Coming out at the end of October and always like to get the latest news from you guys. Will be in Detroit in 3 weeks too
Thanks! I have heard rumblings that they are working on a unified rewards program similar to what Hard Rock is doing. I agree that will be huge for them. It's crazy how much Bally's has grown the past couple of years.
I was conceived at the Tropicana!! I think the Trop needs to be not only preserved but restored!! If you walk around there you'll notice that it has been the victim of several very strange and random remodels over the years. There is tons of unused space in that resort as it stands, not to mention plenty of real estate on property for expansion. They should follow the lead of the GSR company renaming Sahara and embracing the name and the history (there was talk of originally renaming SLS to GSR). It would be so stupid of them to rename it Bally's for no good reason other than the change in ownership. Also... yes Boyd owns the Stardust name and they currently use it for their free online casino app.
I cried. I literally cried when they imploded the Stardust. I still miss driving east on Desert Inn and coming down the hill from Lindell to Decatur all the way down to Valley View and seeing the sign. I hope they implode Tropicana though bc its just a shadow of the lush Tropical landscape it used to be. They shut down the waterfalls and ponds and tore out all the trees and bushes. It looks terrible. The stained glass isn't even lit up inside anymore. It saddens me to see these old beautiful historic buildings not being taken care of. Corporations ruin everything. On that note, I'm done with my rant and can't wait to see what you guys have in store for Friday!
I agree that Tropicana Casino Hotel needs to be up dated but it would be great if they kept the name and build a NEW Tropicana Hotel with spectacular waterfalls and exotic animals.....make it really tropical safari
Bally’s Sports, the regional sports networks aren’t owned by Bally’s. They’re owned by Sinclair Broadcasting, who bought them from Fox Sports after Disney bought a big chunk of 20th Century Fox and Bally’s licensed use of their name. They did the same as companies licensing their names to sports stadiums. And the Bally’s casino in Vegas was built as the MGM Grand and changed hands, and name, a few years after the fire in 1980. When I stayed there in 1991, the decor still reflected the MGM Grand’s; photos of movie stars in the hallways and rooms.
Boyd bringing back a modern Stardust would be great. Between Station and Boyd casinos, I have received zero offers from Station, and Boyd has offered a dozen free nights (4 nights each month) till end of year. Done giving Station casinos any money, they do not value video poker players. Staying at Sam's Town this coming week, the connection with The Killers adds more Vegas allure. Stayed at ST 3 years ago, the rooms were surprisingly clean and adequate. Nice work guys!!
(2/2) However, if you read current trip reports, the concensus is that, with the sale imminent, Trop's former owners allowed it to become a dump, staffed by unmotivated, disgruntled employees. Moreover, when new management took over, it announced it would NOT be spending any money fixing it up for the time being, meaning that it will likely to degenerate until they decide what to do once they tear it down.
I stayed at the Trop just over 5 years ago. I wasn't very impressed with any of the food options. The gambling was meh and the hotel was also meh. Hope they give it a makeover.
Sad to see Tropicana go. I've been staying there for almost 40years. Amazing memories. Got married at the island of Las Vegas Tropicana. Yes the pool was cold , but very beautiful. Heating would be good. Beautiful bungalow suites. Hope they keep the theme.
Although I never visited the Trop much I always thought the pool area was tremendous, it was a very nondescript place when I first went in the late 1990's - their idea of entertainment was to have a lady with a performing cockatoo in the lobby area...It was possibly the last Strip casino that had that old 70's vibe where it really was all about the gambling and not much else.
I enjoy walking through trop’s casino occasionally but I declined to stay there for free so the whole thing about needing an overhaul is valid. I will be sad to see luxor go eventually (same thing with staying there though). I will also miss Mirage. I think everyone gets nostalgic for places and times in Vegas and hates to see them go. Personally I think Vegas peaked right before covid and we have now entered the era of fleecing 🤑. The vanishing “fairer” games - triple zero roulette, 6/5 BJ, slots that are tighter. UNLV released stats proving slots are getting worse. A few years ago both MGM grand and Mirage had a $25 single zero roulette table that was always open. P.S. agree that Virgin is the suck and has been since day one.
The Luxor rumors have been long debunked. If anything Excalibur is more likely to be sold and imploded. Luxor architecturally is as iconic as Bellagio and Caesars Palace at this point.
Vegas was my favorite entertainment destination 1981-2008 (100+ visits) Made one last trip in 2010. Everything that made it special for me is gone. I can gamble with lousy odds and eat overpriced food anywhere. Don’t need to fly to Vegas to do it. Off shore Sports Books scratch the sports gambling itch.
The Festival Grounds at LV Blvd and Sahara Ave is where the A's are focused on right now. They've been in talks with the land's owner Phil Ruffin for the past couple of months. Trop is more likely to be demolished and replaced with a new Bally's.
Agreed. I wouldn't be changing the name of either the Tropicana or Flamingo that are ingrained into Las Vegas even though Wynn did it when he built his hotel at the old Desert Inn location. They can upggrade, implode, etc but it's still going to be located on the corner of Las Vegas and Tropicana. Maybe call it Bally's Tropicana.
Trop is going to be torn down, that's my bet. Now can they stop talking about messing with Flamingo? Can we have one old time casino? I'm not ready for Flamingo to change and certainly not be torn down!
Wasn't the Flamingo Las Vegas' first? You think the historic society would step in. Sad to see old school disappear, although I stayed at the Sahara several years ago and the shower was at 4-feet (the shower head) and I'm 5'11. It was strange. It seemed old, although I'm glad I went
Fremont needs multiple cannabis lounges. Staying in "ashtrayed" 1970s rooms is not the answer. Shame the cannabis consumers at the smokers pole if you must.
Ballys in AC was actually a pretty good refurbishment that keeps the old stylishly with the new. I think/hope they may be able to do a good job with Tropicana. Let us hope they revitalize it.
Most likely scenario is Tropicana gets imploded and replaced with a new Bally's. The A's are heavily focused on the Festival Grounds on LV Blvd and Sahara Ave.
Another weird quirk on the Tropicana: Bally’s owns the hotel and casino (and the whole business overall). But they do not own the land it sits on. They lease the land from a real estate investment company. So, if any deal was attempted by the A’s to build a stadium there, it would probably require the approval of the real estate company in order for the A’s to assume the lease on the property.
I really hope they tear down the Trop. I don't want it to become what Caesars has; a maze of additions, expansions, and add-ons. It's just a mess. Start over and remake Bally's with a modern take.
Both Excalibur and Luxor should be imploded and replaced with a massive Fitness/Sports, Hotel and Casino Resort. Imagine a giant domed complex with a cross-fit centers that could fit 5000 individuals working on advanced, state of the art equipment; water sports complex for indoor surfing, kayaking, scuba and swimming; running surfaces with tracks for both sprinting and semi long distances; rock features for both trad and sport climbing; the largest X games and e-sport venues and multiple-run ski slopes that would rival Dubai Ski. Of course, all those would have to be designed so that they all integrate to create an all-you-can-do exclusive resort with the casino and hotel. They should hold regular competitions and bill it as the world's premiere sporting site, where Olympic athletes could even train. I'd build it if I have Bezos or Musk money.
It would be cool for Bally’s to retain the Tropicana brand due to its obvious history. Lived in Vegas in 1980 and the Trop back then had the feel of a locals casino today without the community center vibe. They had a lounge act back in the day called “The Brothers Revue” which was a spot-on Blues Brothers take complete with a tall and lanky brother and a short heavy one. Brief case with the handcuffs too. Very entertaining!

Im surprised you dont have 100k plus subs? Comments and likes will trigger the algorithm folks
Boyd doesn't have the economic muscle for that. They tried with Echelon which was then picked up by Genting and became Resorts World.
Yeah tough spot as an employee. Hard to care when your owners don't.
Tropicana is the cleanest, and well kept casino on the strip. Smells very nice. No cockroaches like Excalibur across the street.
I agree. That white wash Miami theme makes it feel very clean.
I stayed at the Trop just over 5 years ago. I wasn't very impressed with any of the food options. The gambling was meh and the hotel was also meh. Hope they give it a makeover.
I stayed at the Dunes in 1990!
Sad to see Tropicana go. I've been staying there for almost 40years. Amazing memories. Got married at the island of Las Vegas Tropicana. Yes the pool was cold , but very beautiful. Heating would be good. Beautiful bungalow suites. Hope they keep the theme.
I wonder why they haven't heated that pool yet??!
As a kid I never noticed the temp of the pool but when I went back there in 2020 I noticed how freezing it was. Funny how priorities change.
I spent my honeymoon at the Tropicana in 1968. Makes me feel sad it is sold.😪
Me too. Although it hasn't been getting much investment so it was probably time.
It took a death to get in your Chris Angel reference.
No joke this week. Tons of respect for Dragone. Just mentioned the show because it was relevant.
Demolition of Tropicana might be a little hard considering the close proximity to the airport
Good point although they generally do it at night.
They should have kept the Dunes sign. It was the most insanely phallic sign ever. Always made me laugh.
Haha it was a classic.
2x a week?! Awesome! 👏👏
They will implode the Trop, and build a basketball stadium for the Detroit Pistons to play in when they move here!😁
😂
i believe Ballys Corp also owns a casino in Rhode Island
Vegas was my favorite entertainment destination 1981-2008 (100+ visits) Made one last trip in 2010. Everything that made it special for me is gone. I can gamble with lousy odds and eat overpriced food anywhere. Don’t need to fly to Vegas to do it. Off shore Sports Books scratch the sports gambling itch.
Definitely different than it was back then.
Two shorter shows per week is a good idea.
Thanks! We'll see how it goes.
Bally’s has indicated its not going to do anything significant to the property for 18 to 24 months.
The Tropicana name remains for now
Please explain to me why would the A"s be interested in the Trop.?Buy next door.
The Festival Grounds at LV Blvd and Sahara Ave is where the A's are focused on right now. They've been in talks with the land's owner Phil Ruffin for the past couple of months. Trop is more likely to be demolished and replaced with a new Bally's.
Amystika was awful. Time I will never get back.
His other shows were original and fantastic.
Really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
I always hope that Boyd Gaming would buy the All Net Arena land, and rebuild a new Stardust at that location on The Strip?
Boyd is rich, but not MGM rich. They tried to be a big player but failed and now know their place is with the budget consumer.
On come on, Bally's, the cross street and major road in Vegas is called Tropicana. Why change the name of your property.
@@MicheleKateWhy There is time to change the name of the Wynn to Steve Wynn's Desert Inn. Has a nice ring to it. 😁
@@erikjs Which is why the A's have been and are still in negotiations with Phil Ruffin who owns the Festival Grounds on the North Strip.
@@vegasmarc7252 - Yes. You are absolutely right. If the A’s come to Las Vegas, the stadium will not be where the Trop is now.
Better format. The regular guys.
Tropicana, Meyer Lansky's favorite casino...lots of mob history there..
I really hope they tear down the Trop. I don't want it to become what Caesars has; a maze of additions, expansions, and add-ons. It's just a mess. Start over and remake Bally's with a modern take.
If the Tropicana is taken away that would leave only the flamingo left with the only casino left with a street named after it with no interruption.
The Sahara would like a word with you.
@@vegasmarc7252 the Sahara had an interruption it became the srs
@@vegasmarc7252 Funny
💜☮️
Yeah, I'll take $13.00🤲
Tropicana pool was the best!
😂
It would be cool for Bally’s to retain the Tropicana brand due to its obvious history. Lived in Vegas in 1980 and the Trop back then had the feel of a locals casino today without the community center vibe. They had a lounge act back in the day called “The Brothers Revue” which was a spot-on Blues Brothers take complete with a tall and lanky brother and a short heavy one. Brief case with the handcuffs too. Very entertaining!
I remember being a kid and trying to peak my head into Folies Bergiere. Good times!
bye bye trop
😑
2023 will mark the 30th anniversary of Dunes getting imploded.
Crazy.
Nothing will top 2016 for celeb deaths!
wow so many demolishes going on
Yeah they seem to come in waves.
they shoud better implode the circus circus and rebuilt with nicer hotelsarround resort world.
Station Casinos is rapacious. Venal. Avoid them.
The Cleveland and Buffalo mobmen ard turning over in their Graves
What’s up guys? You always talk about KA cirque du soleil. Ok, it good, but Have you been to “THE ONE” at Mandalay? Go see the show and let us now how good was what was your experience. Cheers!!
I still haven't been to The One, but I know a lot of people who have loved it.
It’s probably one of the best cirque du soleil in the world.
Boyd owns the Stardust name because they use it for their online APP ( like MGM uses MyVegasa0
Implode it and build a 🏟️.
