Today, I would argue MOST legal immigrants are more patriotic than the loudest (most active on the Internet) people. I am from a Communist Poland, and she is 100% right; Americans do not understand, cannot understand what they have. This is good, nobody should have to experience oppression, alas, Americans take this for granted, and push towards the same systems that have destroyed so many countries.
I was born in 1958 and we were just out of food rationing from WW2 I have seen many wonderful things but I’m also worried by the ignorance of so many people. @@lizroberts1569 While it is true that she is from a country where oppression is endemic, it is important to realize that distance between freedom and oppression is very short. We like to think that it "won't happen to us". Yet it is already happening, just so slowly that most don't realize, and the Overton Window has shifted so much that most thinks that today is the natural and proper. It isn't.
Our Politicians are already our betters, being able to get away with things that we cannot (for instance, Congress can legally do inside trading), regulations which extend to every aspect of our lives, our ability to speak is being muted, etc..
We won't likely turn to tyranny tomorrow, but we are well on the way there. Results of which are obvious and people from Communist countries such as her, or I, have seen it, and lived it.
It's a warning that for most is unheeded, and those who do understand, are in vast minority, in most cases being called "Radicals" or "Extremists" and thereby ignored (As if either is by itself a bad thing).
I’m also and I can certainly say that America has changed over the decades. People are unhappy because American at the current rate is going into a dark system. Our rights are being eroded right before our eyes and most people don’t even realize it. The important things don’t matter here in America anymore. She's heavily embellished her story since becoming a right wing provocateur in the West. I'm from Venezuela and my wife comes from Argentina. We came to America via legal immigration and are now citizens. I love America and Western civilisation. We also lived in New Zealand and Australia on our journey to the USA and Americans enjoy far more freedoms than those countries, even though they are beautiful places with amazing people, they aren't as free as America.

@solfh our story is far too long for a youtube comment. It was a very long and, at times, emotionally draining. We stayed in NZ after departing from Columbia, then onto Australia, where we received a lot of assistance with our immigration application (refugee status). We spent tens of thousands of dollars over almost 4 years. Eventually, we made it, and now we are free. I wish you all the best for the future.
@@Pabloworldwide My husband is from Mexico. We met here in the US and had to go through the immigration process. We hired a lawyer and also paid a lot. He was forced to leave me and our newborn for a year and 3 months to live in Mexico to await approval. So many obstacles and nerve wracking moments! It all went well though and here we are several years later with 6 children and so happy.

Yeah, I worked with an older guy, a farm boy, whose house wasn't "electrified" until the early 60s, had out house until the 70s no indoor plumbing, he went without shoes until he was 6, or 8 years old I forget.

(I.e., like the “straw man” / “farmer” in the wizard of oz…who kept saying, “if I only had a brain”…which is the common disparagement of country folk, (was then, and is now), and the people who worked in industry (tin man) who kept saying “if I only had a heart”. Maybe that was meant for the industrialists, but the blame in fact was laid at the feet of the workers. Same thing happened with people who came back from the Vietnam war. They WERE CONSCRIPTED, Mtha fkrs, okay? THIS WASN’T their G.D. Idea, okay? But you know that, right? You’re smart, right? I think the point she was making about BLM is that some of the leadership are Communist and/or Socialist and she have lived through the horrors of those systems. So if BLM believes in Socialism then they are not for human rights regardless of their stated goals.
The thing about democracy is that we have free will to choose, she can disagree but we can not just go down the route of a single party state. The more immigrants the more your democracy will change not all escapees are good actors.

Ms Park isnt a professor, she is an author and a North Korean escapee and goes around the world talking about her experience and brings awareness. If the younger generation fully understood what goes on around the world outside these borders and outside this Western mindset, they would truly appreciate and fight to keep the freedoms we have. My parents and I fled Communist Poland when I was roughly 3 years old and came to the US when I was almost 10...my younger sister was born in Libya. They took contracted positions in Libya and while there they applied to come to US as political refugees. We waited about 18 months in Greece while we waited for everything to be processed and finalized...I remember when we were flying to Greece our plane took a detour and stopped in Poland to deliver someone to the military police...I remember the look on my parents faces when my mother recognized where we had landed..the panic and terror on their faces is something I have never forgotten...I remember my mother handing my baby sister to the person sitting across from us and telling me to sit next to them and not to speak in polish no matter what. If anyone asked me anything I was to speak only arabic, especially if they were taken off the plane...I was confused and terrified by how frightened my parents were...fortunately the soldiers came for someone else...these children, because that's what they are, have no idea about the horrors they're advocating for...they should all do a semester abroad in some of these places and maybe then they'd finally understand how misguided their ideas truly are..
My mother's parents came from Poland around WWI. I remember my mom sending cards to her aunt in Poland. She always bought fancy cards with folds and inserts. She'd tuck in a $5 or $20 in it ( a lot of money for us at the time in the 1960's) and her aunt would write back and thank her for the lovely card and she could afford coal for the winter. Her son would buy her medication in Sweden using US dollars.

I grew up in North America, both in Canada and in the US. My parents are 1st generation immigrants. It’s crazy how it wasn’t until I became a working adult, contemplating moving to a foreign country to work, that I realized how much of a promise land North America is, even to this day. For the ones that do have taps its almost always very low pressure in the hours that there is water but that is ok as long as there is some trickling water then they can fill a large container like a 50 gallon plastic/cement container. Then you just use a liter sized ladle to pour water over yourself. Its quite good but its cold. This can also be or supplemented with rain water or water from a well if there is no town water. Only the ones with no water source or during the winter months and have to carry water from near by use a wet towel wash or wash at a location outside their homes.

There was one a couple years back who they showed videos of what American prisons are like to and she was shocked, saying they had more freedom in the prison than what she'd had day-to-day in North Korea.
