you know what makes this song outstanding? the feeling when you hear it: at first it sounds empowering, then you'll hear the extend of the world. but this makes you also a bit sad in a way, like you cant fix the whole world, but then comes the empowering refrain again. afterwards, the music sounds like you're battling a powerful enemy. the world might be doomed - but you can get ypur self-confindence back and win! and then it starts again. this is just what i love about this theme. it pictures life itself and gives hope.

My Dad told me all about the 80's arcade scene. And thanks to him I've played some of the forgotten gems to gaming. I'm glad this was in the Sega MegaDrive ultimate collection disk
I played this at Taito HEY in Akihabara last month; it wasn't in either of the original cabinets but an Egret III stand up candy cab, complete with headphone jack. It was my first time playing on the original hardware in at least two decades and it was still an awesome experience.
This could simultaneously be an Italo/Hi-NRG track or an epic Wipers 9 minute jam (if you change the bass to just driving root notes and not octaves). So good.
Great to see this has had almost 1M views! Rightly so, as its arguably the 80's arcade anthem and the track that inspired Yuzo Koshiro to become a video game composer.
I played this so much at the Shenmue Arcade. So much fun. Id literally do this and that bike racing game for days on end before id do something productive in game lol. Good memories

I only listened to this music when I played Shenmue Remastered but strangely it stuck in my head, it reminds me of the Mega drive era games I played like ESWAT
Playing this at the local fair in the late 80’s with people around you was something else I’m glad I got to experience it. It wasn’t about the graphics although they were good and still hold up well even today but the atmosphere is something I’ll never forget.
In my heart, Video Arcades of the Golden Age will never die!!! they were many a mix of 8 and 16 bit here and there with a max (golden pixel art show-off) vertical resolution of 224!!! the NEO GEO games (4ex) were the culmination of awesomeness! although I have a sweet spot for tile map levels! (Rygar, Trojan and Konami's Haunted Castle are some examples)
It was done on purpose as a tribute. Space Harrier is highly regarded for inspiring the genre and was one of the first games to really put Sega on the map.
Half the plays of this will be me now. Been blasting this multiple times a day, every day, all year at least. It was the first arcade game to have a quality soundtrack.
I may have not been born in the 80's / 90's but I played this on the Sega collection for Xbox 360 and I fell in love with it. It gave me nostalgia I never thought I'd have.
After hearing about this “Space Harrier” game, I boot up my Xbox 360 and Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection. I press the Y button to look at the Extras category. I see this game listed in there. I jump in, configure my settings, and go! I am unsurprisingly bad at the game. And then it hits me. I recognize this song! I take a hunt around UA-cam, wondering where I remember it from. Soon, I realize. Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed. The Race of AGES. The track I always had a hard time racing in. The track where I always got electrocuted (even though I couldn’t tell the difference it made on my car). This one level. Remix found.
***** It's also in the middle of the "Why the Official Zelda Timeline is Wrong" Game Theory video. And it's in the Race of Ages track in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. It truly is an icon in game music.
***** If you've played Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (phew, that's a mouth full), you may have heard it there, too. It's used in the final track, Race of Ages.
Hiroshi Kawaguchi was only 20 years old when he composed this. Little did he know that this thing he did as part of his job would make history in video game music.
I'm pretty sure that everyone's first exposure to this song in the late 2000's is pretty much Sonic Retro. Can't complain. It's a great tune for a boot screen.
This game is rapidly approaching 40 years old, and this tune still remains one of the best video game themes in the history of the industry.

I used to play this game with my brother in an arcade at a miniature golf place called "Golfland" - this was back in the 80's. The nostalgia is real.

It wasn't hydraulic. It was a couple of large motors and some clever mechanical gubbins.
