Hey Paul, this is Joe and Lezyl. Thank you both you and your wife babyMae for coming over and doing that. I want to shout out for my workers six very good hard-working fun to be with Filipinos.
You got it!
Joe, do you know if basalt rebar is available in the Philippines? I'm still in the States but plan to retire there in the not too distant future. Basalt rebar is fantastically strong but it doesn't corrode even in saltwater areas.
This house is turning our really well!! I like that you adjusted the building quality to ensure that it will be standing for a very, very long time.
@@tryscience I don’t know I recently learned about plastic rebar, which sounds great. we painted all of our rebar as soon as it was delivered and would not except anything rusty.
@@JenGioPhilippineJourney I think I better retire but thank you
Lezyl speaks great English. Not giggly like some of the girls. Joe picked good one. Great job!!!!😊❤
Thank you ❤ 😊 appreciate your comment ❤
Funny couple, but a real couple, relaxed and sincere. They appear very happy together.😊😊😊
They are so down to earth, great people
You guys look so sweet. Carry on.God bless.
His wife speaks excellent English. Best of luck to them on the build and new life in the PH.
This guy got lucky with this beautiful little lady! I don't mean because she is so beautiful, (which she is) but this young lady knows all the answers showing she is a big part of what is going on in that household. Woman like her is a blessing to us retired men like him ( and me). Hats off to him! good video Paul.

It's all about finding that sweet spot between quality and price, right?
Thanks 👍
I agree with Joe's girlfriend that here in the USA the younger generation have no respect for anyone but every once in a while you can come across a young person that is respectful. LOVE FROM IOWA! 😊❤❤❤

HI PAUL , I could hang out with this guy. I am retired builder/engineer here in USA.
We usually stick frame on either poured concrete first floor or basement , depending on topography.
They are building a nice house there.
I think best thing there is a CONCRETE HOUSE.
TY again paul.
GOD BLESS CIAO
Excellent video!!! Good to see someone accomplish a LOT with little investment and a lot of research. Very valuable video.....Thanks Paul

I can’t believe how fast they are going and how cheap they are doing it!
Hi @Landmantx That's the beauty of local labor here in Dumaguete!
Marvelous... Thanks...
Hi @jimscholz2997 Thanks for watching!
Great video! The house is amazing. Thanks, Paul!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and the house!
Living onsite seems to be the key and making accommodations for the workers and a possible future caretaker (or mom) for someone to watch over when your not there. And just make your own Castle in the Jungle as you make it to fit what you want as they did for ping-pong and sewing rooms but kept the house simple with great humorous curb appeal
Wachted this lovely couple in one of your other videos. What a lovely young lady Joe has found. He seems like a sweet guy too. Nice to see couples like this.
Hi @mxlarge6915 Thanks for watching and supporting our channel! We're glad you enjoy our content.
Amazing house!! Paul, will you use all concrete for your upcoming home?
Hey guys, this is Joe and Lezyl from the castle. I think I was downstairs when I accidentally said contractor, but I meant to say foreman. Which we actually had two of by some funny accident
Hey Paul just one of the crazy people here cool videos i do hope we can get a tour when it is done done thank you to all of you
Hi Paul. Great video and a great couple. I like the 6 month in/out. You get the best of both worlds. Building vertical is great. It’s commonplace in the northeast. The laundy chute is a good idea. The only negative with that is that it doesn’t become a wasp nest.
Thanks for the nice, we are putting in the screens
Well said!
HELLO Paul What a day ! Have a good one !!
Hey Saul 👋 great to see you
Joe is a great guy met him a several years ago! hope your enjoying your retirement!
Hi @danwilhite7839 Thanks, glad to hear you know Joe! We're loving life here.
Awesome project
Wow, that is awsome!
Hi @dirtyharry8629 Thanks for watching!
Very informative video. Paul been watching you for two years now. You always have good advice hope to move there someday when my wife and l retire.
Hi @edwinamell7617 Thanks for your loyalty! We're happy to be a part of your journey to the Philippines!
Cool house for just a small investment.
Hi @lavonyoung2366 Thanks, it's not just a house!
that house will never blow over in a hurricane but not so sure about the 11 roofs. Since electricity is expensive there, I'd mount solar to the roof and have batteries for storage. Lovely views up top. Hope that title for the land is clean.
That’s a good idea
BEAUTIFUL HOUS ETHANKS FOR SHARING
Oh good for you. You’re finally building a house for your wife. It’s about time. Do you know if she’s waiting for it? don’t disappoint her. It’s every Filipina’s dream do you have a man build her her house👍🙏
Nice
Nice house for a nice couple👍
Thank you 😊
Thank you 😊
You get more people because you have great content to tell
Great video Paul. It will be great to see it when it's finished. Keep going strong Paul and live your best life!!!
Hi @tedlasalvia9668 Thanks for watching! We're excited to share the final result with you.
Where in Missouri? I live east of Branson. I have been a fan of yours Paul for several years. I haven’t been blessed with the opportunity to visit the Philippines as of yet.
cool, i did the same thing! never built a house OR worked with concrete before, but i used 1-2-3 mix ( half small crushed stone half larger size) and added sahara on the terrace slab. took me 6 months and i hired 5 guys from the village and a father and son from another village, the father was my foreman. i was sure it was the strongest structure in the philippines when i finished but maybe now its tied for that honor with his place! hahaa.
its looking good, i also have a telescope on my terrace and sort of castle look to the terrace handrail, its 4 ft. columns that extended up from downstairs columns but i put exposed round rock in them up top to give it an old castle style look and capped them off with concrete shaped like "japanese roofs" and i have 6 steel bars embedded in them all the way around to form the handrail. built my own bed frame out of wood also, and later made one for our daughter lol.
i used arch beams downstairs supporting the upstairs slab, it was interesting making the curved forms with coco-lumber framing we cut slots in to get it to curve. it came out looking kind of like an MC Escher drawing !
well, good luck, seems like you have a handle on everything ,enjoy your new place!
oh, i ended up spending 28,000 US, that was 2015 dollars.
Very nice 👍
Hi @josephcmcauliffe1706 Thank you!
100k soon 🎉 Greetings Paul and wife Mae 😊
Hi @tedrobertson1344 Thanks for watching!
thank you so much for doing this video we just bought 882 sq metres of land in panglao bohol and plan to build on it we are in canada but go back every year his advice on cement and rebar are great I want my place as strong as I can get it also, so thanks again and we will watch his videos on his channel also. we also want a bamboo house on our place so we can be there when they build
Happened to me too, we built the first floor then thought a terrace would be nice, now three floors later trying to get it finished to some degree. Used 10,12,16mm bars, added Sahara to the cement to waterproof.
good job.
Amazing. That guy knows how to build...great imagination too..God bless..✝️
Hi @markpurcell1488 Thanks! We love seeing creativity thrive here!
Thank you Paul that was a great video kind of inspirational as well
Hi @clsybear Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Cant wait to see it finished
Hi @liveandlearnwithmike Thanks, excited to share the progress!
Hi Hope to have your crew when i build in Camotes thanks for a great video
One great thing about this video was that you can still build a house for 30-40K in Philippines. Before this everyone was talking about 100-300K which I thought was ridiculous. Good for them. Great job.
Once you let other contractors or an engineer handle the cost will be 3x. Or more and some of them not really use the good quality materials thier just sucking your money out from your pocket and driving with nice tracks 🤣
Thank you for watching
Hi @franky3231 Appreciate the support, glad to help dispel those high-cost misconceptions!
I like the castle. Tell Joe and Lezyl that I live in Warrensburg, Missouri, right now. And looking to move to the Philippines to find myself a Filipina. I just turned 60. Medically retired and on disability benefits with a pension.
Telescope! Awesome. You were reading my mind. Just a note. If it is on the upper floors, the scope should be mounted on an isolated pedestal to the ground foundation. Otherwise people walking around on upper floors with cause vibrations in the scope. It will be annoying as hell. My daughter’s high school had this problem. Anyway love your observatory.
Good advice thank you
I’m still watching lol. Thanks Paul and Mae . Paul , you did great on video. Looks like I’m look good on this full height of me Lol.
Hi @LeezJoe10589 Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it!
I like it
Hi @charlesanderson6986 Thanks for watching!
Love the bug out idea . Trying to decide between Thailand and the Philippines.
Pretty amazing the speed they built their house and the rapport w/ his filipino contractors. It is only my opinion to people who are thinking of building their castle is the hire a professional Architect to help them through design.
Paul could build castle greyskulls as his side hustle there
I might buy that if he put it up for sale
Man that's the way to go. This will be there for ever. Remains me of German bunker style. Nice.❤
That explains it. Missouri. I'm here and we have lots rock queries. Holler from Ozarks❤❤
Just add some solar panels on the roof and it will be perfect. 8-)
Thank you for the suggestion! Solar panels would definitely be a smart addition to the setup.
Have a friend here that built a house north of Manila that traveled like that 6 months each place , when they went back a few years ago the house next door was sold to an ex realtor who in turn built a wall across there access then tried to buy there place for next to nothing , they are still in the courts
You know you married up when your gal has the running costs figured down to the dollar! Holy crap! I've been in the house I built for 20 years and still don't know what the total cost was. I could get within say, $2,500 either way at best. Great people. Wacky house. Got to love it.
Yet another great vid by Paul.👍
Hi @goatman3828 Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
I would find the house rather claustrophobic, such tiny little rooms. As long as they are happy, good for them. I must add, what a great couple.
I imagine more rooms/space will mean more people who can live there...more family to feed and deal with for her.
Wow land was a little over 1k php a SQM. Land prices are crazy now
My wife's home was a single story on 250 meters. We couldn't build anywhere but up. We added a 2nd story for $25,000. We now have 6 bedrooms. Land is at a premium in the Philippines.
Concrete house. Did you do footings. And is there a basement in the house.
Paul, you were thinking of building a house for Mae on your property. Will Mae need a 1 story castle? Complete with towers and Battlements?
What an interesting floor plan for a house. Joe better stop or he'll keep building up and up 🙂
Hi @midlifewanderings Thanks, love the enthusiasm!
Although they don't use lintels over the windows and doors in the Philippines, it might be a good idea. It might make a big difference in how long the structure lasts. I had a 100-year-old house in the USA and over time the masonry cracked and the lintel saved it from having a major structural problem.
Hi @charlesphilhower1452 Great point! We'll keep that in mind for our future builds. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I Rented the first 3 yesrs for 6k pesos for 2 bedroom apartment then i realized rent was going up to 10k pesos so my thoughts 7 year's ago is 5 years rent would pay for an average Philippino house so we built and its paid for itself now in rent money saved and if i pass my family has a home , we built in 2017 100 square meters ,4 bedrooms 2 bath with a 20 square meters sari sari store and i spent 40k usd including our 200 meters lot . I will add I only used 22% of my savings to build with too incase of my loss if you foreign men get my drift .Foreigners can't own land in the Philippines . My 10 year relationship is solid but one never knows in life .
Hi @jamestopeka2236 That's a smart investment! We're glad it paid off and provides security for your family.
