I am not a professional musician. I played in school bands and churches. I used SONAR 8, X1, X2, and X3 and have the original instructions. The instructions were poorly written and had limited basic information and written in technical terminology, not common to musicians or other members of the society. After all, SONAR was made for the general public to have as well as professionals. These Videos are superior because the terminology is first clearly explained. As with any profession, the terminology is key to understanding any topic. As a medical provider and university educator, I too can explain the coronavirus in medical and scientific terms, What good is that to the average person, we all have to understand. Theses videos are professionally presented, clear, entertaining, short and to the point. Keep up the great work!

Another great video Mike. I appreciate how you mentioned the different VST groups, instruments, audio effects and midi effects as well as the division between 32 and 64 bits and VST2 versus VST3. Lots of piles for VSTs to be divided between!
Using 32 bit VSTs in Cakewalk by BandLab appears to be problematic with some working using jBridge but many not working at all.
As you mentioned in your video, the same is true with VST3s. Some VST3s crash in Cakewalk by BandLab but the VST2 works fine. Even most software developers say on their website to try the VST3 first and if it doesn't work use the corresponding VST2.

Hello Mike; I have been following your videos and have found them most helpful and interesting. You keep things light and NOT boring. I have been writing songs for some time now, but have been stuck with recording with a dynamic microphone and straight into my sound card. OUCH! The outcome is very bad. Lately, I have upgraded my equipment to a Behringer xenyx usb mixer and a fair condenser microphone and the quality has increased drastically. I am new to Cakewalk also, but I love it! I fine it very powerful and with the free plugins I am starting to get better results.
Please keep the informative videos coming. Dan for Colorado.

Hey Mike, absolutely love your videos - they are truly evergreen contents! I wonder if there's any way to customize the location of shared folders where audio plugins or other utilities will stay via advance installation options? I have a very small system drive (c drive) so I wonder if you could make a video on how to maximize other drives/external ssd etc for those fat babies (plugins, synths and more) at the beginning of installing the software. Thanks a lot Mike!

Mike this is a very important subject. Good topic. Sometimes the VST wants to install on a VST associated with Cakewalk. Other times a plug is set to be installed on a folder named Steinberg VST plug ins which is kind of a generic VST folder. Of course most plug ins give you the option of installing in a folder of your choice. Recently I have creating my own folder called VST plugins because I was fed up with having multiple VST folders. If you are new to audio recording this can be a confusing area. I have been recording for a while but even I have to be careful installing VST Plug ins or they get scattered all over your hard drive.

Hey Mike , let me start off by saying thank you for all the great info . I'm a professional singer of almost 40 years but new to the digital recording process. I absolutely love Cakewalk. I have pro tools but prefer Cakewalk. I've been recording for a couple years now I've come so far in that stretch and I owe a lot of that to you . I recently purchased all the Fab Filter plug-ins but I'm not sure how to get my VST presets installed in them . Is there a simple technique to loading them into the plug-in . Some of my plug -ins in my arsenal have them and some of them don't. None of the Fab filter bundle loaded. The plug-ins themselves work great but I would definitely benefit from a starting point with the presets . If you find the time to reply that would be tremendous. Thanks again.

very helpful video! I have one more question though, I installed the Plugin I want and found it no problem, but can I use my plugin with my instrument being both input and output? because I have a Yamaha dgx660 and it works fine as a midi input and output except when I use plugins. when I use a plugin, I find "PortablePiano" in the input section but there is a delay when I play, and for the output I cannot find the instrument at all.

Hello Mike, I really appreciate your videos. I am a long-time Cakewalk user. I have quite a few plug-ins that were included and installed with upgrade packages that I purchased from Cakewalk in ancient times before Cakewalk was taken over by Bandlab. At any rate, I have recently purchased a brand new hot-rod computer and I would like to install some of these plug-ins (such as the Nomad Factory Stuff) on my new machine. I don't have access to the installation files anymore. Can I just transfer the .dll files over to my new machines' appropriate VST folder(s)?

When I import a MIDI file, the program immediately assigns its own VSTs. How do I change them to the VSTs I've downloaded? Right-clicking on the track number would seem to allow one to change the VST, but it doesn't. There must be something more. Can you do a video on importing MIDI files, then changing the VSTs. Thank you

Thanks for this video tutorial. As a Cakewalk newby I found it useful, and especially the section on setting up plug-ins in non-standard directories (since I also have a D:\ data drive and an E:\ programs drive separate from my C:\ Windows drive.
You suggested that given the option of 32 and 64 bit plugins, you'd go for 64 bit, which is fair enough - I also have 64 bit Windows 11 as my OS. But then you said that in the example there was an option for VST2 AND VST3 so you went for the VST2 version. Why was that? And why would you not go for VST3? What is the difference between 2 and 3? And would it 'harm' Cakewalk if you installed both?
Thanks. I've subscribed to your video channel now, so am looking forward to learning more about the software (and watching more videos!).

I am new to Cakewalk, and have been checking out quite a few of them.

My question that I’m hoping you can help with is:
Can I use the Cubase plug-ins in CbB?
And if so, it sounds like it would just need the correct file path ?
I just didn’t know if Cubase allowed other programs to access their plugins.

Hi my friend, thank you for watching. Getting parts to line up depends on the situation. If you have snap turned on, then it should work well, but only if the clip itself starts exactly on a beat. If it doesn't, then what I tend to do is drag the beginning of the clip to the nearest bar or beat, before copying, and then paste it to a beat. The key is to have snapping on. Now, all that may not make much sense, so I think it may deserve a video of its own!

What I'm having trouble with is selecting VSTi's that have been organized and saved in a custom Menu Layout. If, for example, I have a simple instrument track with a synth and want to change it to another I can right click ans select "Replace Synth". However, at that point I can only select: "Sort by Category, Sort by Manufacturer or Sort by Type". Why can't I select my saved custom "Synthesizer Menu"? How do I access my custom menu layouts? Also, is there a way to display custom Menu Layouts in the Instrument Browser pane instead of the Cakewalk default organization types? I've seen a video that shows that Audio FX custom menu layouts can be selected by right clicking in the FX area of the track but that doesn't seem to apply to VSTi's. BTW, I never save VSTs or other data to the C: drive. That all is stored on another hard disk, which gets backed up to a NAS hard drive. The exception is a few VST3's that are located in the C:\Common Files|VST3 folder. Usually, VSTs can simply be moved at will, there is no registry entry. Of course the Cakewalk VST Scan path(s) must be set to any and all folders that contain VSTs. I really dislike vendors that make you "install" VST's. They should just be unpacked .dll or .vst3 files, with associated files and folders if any, that can be located anywhere the user wants. Only standalone synthesizer apps should be put in the C:\Program Files folder. Late note: I just figured it out! The problem was that Cakewalk has a default folder location for Plug-In Menu Layouts. Once I set the path (in Preferences) where I save my Menu Layouts (on my data hard drive, not the C: drive" I am able to access them and that layout is now the one displayed in the Instrument Browser pane. Hurrah!

Great video and very well explained.
I am new to Cakewalk and just downloaded 11 free plugins. (Most of these were recommended by a friend). Right now they are located in my Download Folder on my Laptop running Windows 10 with 16GB RAM and two hard drives (an SSD Boot Drive and 1TB D-Drive).
Can I just copy the plugins files from the download folder to my D-Drive and put them in a folder that I will create for VSTs. I think I will follow your idea of calling it MyVSTs on my D-Drive.
Or, must I install them (one by one) by clicking on the plugin name from the download folder and then designate the destination folder on my D-Drive? (MyVSTs). This seems more logical now that I am thinking about it based on what you say in the video.....Thanks. I gave you a Sub too. Well done.

I have downloaded and installed a plugin called Tal Reverb. It is my custom folder on my D drive (the folder was added to the folders Cakewalk will look in for new plugins), but it still does not show up, nor is it excluded. There are many plugins in my custom folder that cakewalk does see, just not this one. There's one other plugin by Flux Audio that Cakewalk does not see as well located in the default Cakewalk folder. Any suggestions? Thanks and you have really informative videos. Thanks.
    Phil

Hi Mike, why do some VST plugins zero their volume when the play transport is started despite having a decent volume level set?

Is there a way oof organising these plugins and instruments in my own way, by naming the folders? Because in the end, when there is a whole bunch of them, I wouold barely remember what are they used for.

I find that Sonivox installs both 32 bit and 64 bit into the same location, doesn't offer separate paths for 32/64. Is it safe to simply move the x64 VST files to my usual 64 bit folder? Some DAWs and other VST hosts only allow one custom VST location in their settings.

I'm trying to install the Blue Cat Free Amp VST. The scanner recognized the new install and the Plug In manager shows it as an enabled VST, but the plug in doesn't show up in the Plug-In Tab in Cakewalk. It did appear to come in as a VST3 when I installed it. Any ideas on what I'm doing incorrect?

Mike I've been trying to install Steven Slate Drums and I've already tried all of these suggested fixes and Cakewalk still does not load it or see it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I've been trying to get VSTi's from DSK to work and haven't had much luck. Are there known issues between Cakewalk and that provider? Other VSTs work fairIy well. I've tried on both a Dell i7 with 16G ram, Win 10 and an HP z440 with 8G and Win 7. Help?

Mike, should 32 and 64 bit vsts always be located in a different folder? Do some vsts require additional file types- not just .dll?

Thanks! I installed The Instrument by Phil Speiser both as VST3 and VST2. The VST3 doesn't fully correctly so I was going to try the VST2-version which is fully seen in the Plug-in Manager and enabled but this VST2-version doesn't show up as instrument in Cakewalk and can't be used. :-/ Is there a solution?

Thank you for this tutorial. So far I've had no luck with finding all my sonar platinum plug ins when I installed the platform on my new computer (I had 81 plug ins, and now only have 31). In particular, I am really missing the BlueTube plug ins.) My searches bring up nothing. Are they just gone, because I'm now on 64 bit, instead of 32?

    • @CreativeSauce
      @CreativeSauce  4 роки тому

Hi, sometimes I have found that if Cakewalk gets stuck on a particular plugin, then it doesn't scan further. I had this issue with Waves at one time. More commonly its because they are 32 bit plugins. You can use a program called jBridge to make 32bit plugins work, but unfortunately its not free :( But you can at least try a demo to see if it fixes the issue (jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/)

    • @guitarmon100
      @guitarmon100 4 роки тому

@@CreativeSauce Thank you for that suggestion. I tried Jbridge, and it did not find any 32-bit plug ins. Do you think it might be worth my while to uninstall the 64 bit version, and just go with the 32 bit version?

I managed to instal the trial of Serato Sample and it shows in the plug in manager under vst instruments but it doesn't show in my actual plug-ins and I can't find any way to open it. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get it there or actually open it? Thanks.

Hi there! I just wanted to ask because I still encountered problems even though I watched your video. I've installed Project SAM The Free Orchestra as well as Kontakt player and Native Instruments. I did use a custom folder for Project SAM The Free Orchestra but I did do the steps you shown and input the correct file paths. I even added the folder of Kontakt Player but cakewalk still doesn't detect it and I don't know why. I also watched your video about using Kontakt it cakewalk but it also didn't work. What do you think is the problem? I would really appreciate your reply. Thank you!

The excluded plugins thing made me really scratch my head. I was trying to troubleshoot a kontakt library in other DAW so I installed Cakewalk, thinking I'd just add my VST folder and boom. If you ask me a DAW shouldn't be hiding anything by default.
