No New Year's Eve without having seen Diner For One at least 3 times!!!
No real German violates this tradition!!!
A small explanation: It is Miss Sophie's 90's birthday and all of her friends have long passed away. But because she loved her friends and don't wanted a birthday party without them, she asked James to play the guests. And of course, the prodcedure has everytime to be the same as last year :)

And since she buried the last of her friends 25 years ago, this "dinner for one" is normal for miss Sophie because it was always "the same Procedere as every year" 😊
Tip for this piece: Don't think about it!! Watch and enjoy. Just like us Germans and half of Europe too!! We have watched this piece every year on New Year's Eve since 1972, making it the most frequently repeated piece of television history there is!!
The back story is that Miss Sophie has outlived all her friends and now, the butler has to take on this role.

I haven’t seen this amazing clip in ages. I used to watch this very often with my late grandfather. There used to be a version with Dutch actors as well. Must have been at least 50-60 years old now.
They broadcast this every year in Germany.
The speaker at the beginning tells the story ,so why does the world not notice , why she sits alone and he drinks for her guests ? Silly people everywhere.
That is only in the german version. This is the swiss version without any intro. Another difference: because he does not actually likes germany because of ww2, in the german version, Admiral von Schneider asked "oh must i, miss sophie" everytime he toasts miss Sophie.
