Having seen this movie many times and based on the fact that today is its 8 year anniversary, I wanted to make this video on the very underrated war film and talk about why it's a masterpiece of a film that not many regard as such. Enjoy!

Also, I should've included this part in the video but to all the veterans who served during World War 2 as a member of a tank crew or served in general, I appreciate your service while fighting overseas during that time. I hope more people see this movie and come to appreciate that...🙏

@@starwarsunleashed37201 in Fury i did not get the sensation that it glorifies war and heroes, it shows the humility and the ego at the same time, which is quite astonishing. Nevertheless, All quiet on the western front goes even deeper in what is war about.
I saw fury in theaters with my parents. At the end of the movie my mom cried. I’ll never forget that. They were all good men just living In the worst time to be alive.
I couldn't agree more my friend, at the end of the day this film is about sacrifice, conflict and knowing who the brother is by your side in the war

One of the things that makes the movie so great is that they aren't all great men. Norman obviously is, and so is Sergeant Collier and arguably Bible to some extent, but Gordo and Grady aren't super great guys. Grady especially is a piece of shit, but when it comes down to it, they are all complicated men that, regardless of their differences, are on the same side and fight as brothers until the end.

The visual style, the music and Sounds, the dark and gloomy vibe. I rewatch Fury every couple months cuz its so good, I just love it

In my personal top 10 I can rewatch and never get tired of. Shia is truly one of the most underrated/underappreciated actors of our time. Man’s dialogue and emotion in this movie are top tier.
While some scenes may not be very realistic , still one of the greatest films I’ve watched ever

That final battle is still one of the most intense scenes I've ever watched in a war movie. You can feel the bleakness, intensity, and desperation the entire time, and really leaves a hollow feeling in my core.
Truly a well crafted set piece that breathes for one of the best action sequences ever put to screen in my mind. From the filmmaking, the actors, practical use of effects with little CGI (there was some of course) and then also the build up of tension through the editing and directing.
I hated how they showed the German as idiots who couldn't hit a stationary tank with a Panzer Faust. 😩😒
No, the final battle was the platonic archetype of stupid pants.

When you see what the Germans are armed with , multiple panzerfaust, the final battle should have lasted as long as it took to get one of the panzerfaust in position for a flank shot, so roughly 5 minutes. This battle scene was pure bad fiction. As for the awful tiger battle. If this was anything close to real tactics, Fury is the first kill by the tiger because of its bigger gun compared to the rest of the Sherman's. The movie ends at the first shot of that battle with Fury a burnt out hunk of scrap metal.
Give me Master and Comander and Saving private Ryan, Schindlers List, Das Boat, and many others, including foreign films over this.
No one mentions during the ending scene when Norman wakes under the Tank the next morning and the White Horse whisks by, I like to think it took War daddy’s soul to Heaven after seeing Norman one last time
I never even thought about that but ya that's a random moment at the end but also surprisingly maybe had a meaning to it

Ive been a Barber for about 35 years, and my first job was in a shop, it was me, 26, and 3 WW II Veterans. The shop was very popular, and back then most WW II Vets were 63 to 67 years old. One of my customers was a guy that had been in the 70th tank battalion, in (sorry its been so long i cant recall) the division that had "Spearhead" on its patch. He said his tank came through a big hedge in Normandy, and there, a hundred yards away, was one of those Tiger Tanks. The Sherman fired immediately, and the round "bounced off the apron and shot way up, like a glowing tennis ball." He told me "The crew of that Tiger must have been really inexperienced, because after the first shell bounced off the Tiger, they all climbed out and ran into the woods nearby." They shot it four more times, and all the shells bounced off! Then he said" I was looking through the periscope, and saw an old (German) soldier, shouting at the Tiger crew and gesturing wildly. Well, those kids jumped back in the Tiger, and fired, and the Tiger shell went clean through our Sherman, decapitated my driver and destroyed our tank." Later, the Shermans got better guns but by the end of the war that guy had survived three tanks he was in getting destroyed. Insane...
I was into War History since I was a kid (post industrial, WW I, WW II, Korea, Vietnam) and always had books on my countertop. Guys would say "Hell Kid, I was in army artillery at Corregidor" or "I was a waist gunner in 17s for 3 years." One of my fellow Barbers was on a destroyer in the S. Pacific, the other guy was with those Rangers (5th? 2nd? Cant recall) that went up that cliff on D-Day, and my boss was a machine gunner in the 4th Marine Division. He'd been in the big fights on Roi, Tinian, Saipan and finally Iwo Jima, where he got blasted by a mortar over by that airfield. Great stories, as well as fighter pilots, bomber guys, we even had one guy who was a "pathfinder," because he spoke french and german they dropped him in France about a month before D-Day....

@@Puppy_Puppington thanks, my wife says i should write them down before i get too old! (Senile) I was very lucky, we had guys that were in Korea, and vietnam as well. One guy had a gold tie pin that was a little Huey Helicopter. I said "cool, where on earth did you get it?" He said "the air cav gave me this for having my 3rd chopper shot to pieces.." Another guy was with the 5th Marines (1st Division) and was a B.A.R. guy, he was right on the sharp end at that reservoir the night all those Chinese divisions came pouring in. He told me that on that night, he was one of the few that had ammo, and he was shooting, and could only shoot straight ahead, because groups of men were all around his hole, fighting the chinese with knives, bayonets, etc, and he might have hit Marines. Several times during the night, people fighting fell into his hole, and (get this) in the muzzle blast he had quilted arms, grabbing at the B.A.R. and trying to wrest it away. He also added that the chinese army (which had 'commisars' watching) would send a first "wave" to attack them, with normal equipment and arms, the second wave would have some rifles, with the others being told to "find a weapon when you get there," and then the 3rd wave would often be running around barefoot (yes, in the freezing snow) with orders to "find some boots and weapons when you get to the fight!" He said the americans killed hundreds of them while they were trying to pull boots off dead soldiers, especially Americans. (Better quality) he said "we almost felt sorry for them, but many did find stuff, and start trying to kill us, so that stopped any guilt." Crazy, huh? R.I.P. William "Billy" Bartha, USMC. He died in 1998.
I myself actually spent 6 years of my youth as a tanker in the army, I wish I was a smarter or a more wise man to be able to describe the feeling of sharing that cramped metal sarcophagus with people. You get to learn every single thing about those guys, hell times I was awake on night watch with a crew mate and we were swapping stories that only stay between us to this day. While Fury missed a lot with historical accuracy but it hit the mark of what the life of being in a tank is like. My old crews and I still stay in touch to this day.

I'm German and patriotic too. I get some sort of gratification from seeing Norman's degradation of his empathy for the enemy. I firmly belief a soldier who has empathy for his enemy is held back. A good soldier is less of a person. War tries to make men monsters and if it fails it'll eat you alive even worse. And I like seeing the movie's and character's particular disdain for the Sturmstaffel. They are disgusting and to be hated.
I saw Fury in theaters right after I came home from Afghanistan... I had to leave the theater. Not because it was bad... but because the scene of the new private cleaning out the tank. It hit me hard because I had to do the same thing on a weekly basis

Yeah, this is one of my favorite movies too. It’s probably my favorite war movie. I’ve been on a war movie Kik for the past couple weeks and I absolutely love this film.

I also think in the end, 'War Daddy' was at the only home he had left with the only family he had left. He died with his boys. Though scared, in the end, he was finally at peace. He was resigned to be at rest for eternity.
I watched this film for the first time when I was fresh outta basic. It was amazing. Well done, well written, good stuff brother.
We Were Soldiers is probably one of my favorites, with Blackhawk Down probably being the best: the scene involving the two snipers, both of whom were real soldiers that died in that same way, cemented it in my mind.
Black hawk down one of my favorites as well, the sniper scene is one of the best ever! Those 2 dudes were beasts!
I was a tank crew member in the 60, what I really saw was the closeness of the crew was very true anyone. We became a very tight family.
We didn’t call each other by our rank we were on a first name basis. From sgt. to pvt it was first name only.

I agree, this was a masterpiece; from the degenerative behavior of Jon Bernthal to the humanity displayed by Logan Lerman & the action scenes. And as was mentioned by the host , Brad Pitts moments of visual emotional silence or a momentary stare, spoke volumes without words.
An emotional rollercoaster throughout.
Loved this movier & all that each character brought to it. And I repeat, Brads no dialog facial expressions/brief stares brought a depth to the movie you seldom see. As the old expression says- a picture is worth a thousand words .
When you know military life, this movie strikes a very different and personal cord after watching it. Just listening to the characters talk to each other is so accurate. How they go from yelling and shitting on each other, to joking around and laughing together so often is very military accurate. The actors did a amazing job at portraying a bond the crew has together

I 100% agree. I am quite literally obsessed with this movie. I have seen it multiple times and own it on DVD. I even wrote an article about it on my Substack. It's multi-layered and tackles a variety of issues to do with war going on beneath the surface. The religious themes are hard to miss. You are correct. It shows what war does to people, how it alters them. It IS a masterpiece. Thank you for making this video. Training Day, another masterpiece. I'll go away now
A very realistic movie. I was a US Army Tanker for 12 years on the M1A1 Abrams and fought in Desert Storm and this movie accuretly portrays how tankers live and fight.

The tiger tank is not the last Tiger tank in the world, it was the last RUNNING tiger tank
ALSO, they were less than 5 months away from the end of the war, as they are in Europe. The end of war in Europe ended in May, just one month later. War on Japan ended in September.
It should also be noted that this movie dealt with 4 common tank battles: from the air (opening), shield for flanking infintry, tank vs tank (and also pays respect to the differences in armor and firepower), and as a fortress against infantry.
I think it adds variety and allows the characters to show their make in different scenarios.
Also, at the end, Machine wouldn't release his (Wardaddy's) revolver to the medic, showing both the trauma and honor towards Wardaddy.
I just saw it like 1h ago ( thanks netflix) this was one of the greatest war movie I've ever seen.

i just watched it the other night, i remember wanting to see it back in the day but never had the time. but im glad, it's definitely one of my personal favorite war movies. wow was it good, the start is amazing them trying to harden norman up for what's about to come and him not abandoning his good nature, finding love and suffering personal lose. The last stand at the end and that one german soldier not telling on at the end and saving the kids life was just amazing. it was like god was looking over him due to his good heart and character during bad times.
I bought Fury on DVD . Totally outstandig . Highly recomenned
I just watched it yesterday and it was such a good movie. I love how the movie just establishes the atmosphere and vibe in the beginning by showing trucks carrying dead bodies and the world around them. The fights were intense and good, especially the sherman vs tiger battle.
I mean despite the whole inaccurate tank combat it was a pretty good movie.
Lots of the times things can be inaccurate but still fun, basically all of Top Gun Maverick is like that but still an amazing movie

Most crews would’ve ditched their tank if it wasn’t moving and maybe they would’ve used the 50cal maybe but those panzerschreks would’ve hit that tank over and over when it wasn’t moving and it would’ve been obliterated. Germans were hardcore veterans and even though had new soldiers in 1945 the hardened veterans would’ve told them you never open a tank and look in it. You charge a grenade throw it in shit the hatch quickly and clear it even if no one is in it for safety. Tracers were over exaggerated. While men could speak German this guy was hardcore German fluent in heat of the battle acting like a murderer. Also the tank crew is way older than what a normal tank crew would’ve been. If airplanes had kids in the 20s flying. Tanks would’ve had men in the 20s and the boss of the crew may be late 20s-very early 30s maybe.
Even that tank battle the panzer would not have left its hiding spot. It would’ve picked off the first 3 tanks especially brads tank. But no Hollywood can’t kill a lead character even if it’s war film and anyone can die anytime

09:02 The African theater was not "at the beginning of World War Two".
American forces arrived in Africa in November 1942, which is after the half-way mark.
So, Fury's crew fought only in the second half of the war.
Ok so they missed the very very beginning by a few months then. When the US entered the African theater after Pearl Harbor it was in May of 1942. To be clear when I said they were with each other since the beginning I meant the beginning of American occupations.

Imo Michael Pena's best performance was in the Lincoln Lawyer. Just the scene where he breaks down after he's offered a plea deal to avoid the death penalty for false SA allegations, is just amazing.
"You want me to say I did it? You know what that's going to do to my mom? I'm not going to jail for something I didn't do, bro..." That whole scene damn near brings me to tears every time.
I have yet to see The Lincoln Lawyer so maybe one day I'll find out

It's a movie that gets better with every watch. Viewing the film with captions on reveals a whole new layer of detail. It was only on the third watch did I understand the true strategic importance of guarding the crossroads for the final stand.

They were weeks from the war ending in Europe. Months for the Japanese theater.
The War in Germany ended on May 7, 1945. They were just weeks or days away from they end.

one movie mistake that bugged me as being a Bradley Driver and Gunner at one point in my life, was the scene when Gordo (The driver) spots an anti-tank Panzerfaust soldier at "4-o'clock" like 1 How are you seeing that angle from your seat, and 2 How are you seeing it from the direction you're facing? lol

Personally I think Fury is a spectacular WW2 movie showing the comradery, bravery, suffering and hidden emotions of the soldiers (I.E when Brad Pitt has to hide himself behind a tank to regain composure) and should not be judged by the books. Fury seeks to dive deeper into the psychology of what a tank crew faced and like others have said, I watch this movie every month or so.
It's a movie that explores human beings who are very clearly not good people but have good tendencies to them that shine when you need it

I think my favorite thing about the movie is it's portrayal of blurred lines and ambiguity, in most war movies the allies are the heroes and every nazi is an evil villain.. the movie starts and the cast is so unlikable, doing and saying horrible things and only as the story develops you understand why they are the way they are.. and then at the end the SS guy shows mercy on Norman, which if the roles were reversed, at that point I don't think he would've done the same
I saw this movie right after I moved to Arizona from California.
I was pretty excited because I liked David Ayer movies. But I was not expecting what I got this movie touched on so many things end it nailed the brotherhood that forms perfectly.
And no offense to civilians, but there’s just something that comes from serving that forms of bond forever. At the end of this film, I freaking lost it. This film is highly underrated and it’s a crime because this is one Great, damn movie!
thank you Mr Ayer this is single-handedly one of my favorite movies in the whole world I'm not a big lover of violence anymore like I was when I was younger but for some weird reason I am very much affected by this movie I can't stop watching it it's like I choke up a tear up it's like the camaraderie the brotherhood the friendship the doer die mentality also the score the score from this movie especially the song Norman from the score is one of my favorite pieces of music of all time I cannot stop listening to it also the song Emma is also my favorite it's the same as Norman just a little bit longer I cannot stop listening to these pieces of music every time a clip from this movie comes on when I'm on UA-cam I have to watch it I don't know how many times I'm just sitting at home and I'll just find this movie and I am just mesmerized by it everything from the dialogue the grittiness just everything about it even the brutality and the sensitivity of the character grading so well written he is such a real person in the world everyone knows somebody like that he is so sensitive but also a fucking animal at the same time that is the dude that you want on your side and then Bible just a great inspiration I couldn't stand Norman at first I'd hate it that little whiny ass character and then I understood it like hit me like he's everybody He's the kid the child put in a impossible situation like when he was acting out and he was like I don't want to be here I don't want to be here like trying to wish it away but the reality of it is is you are here and not slowly little by little and the course of a few weeks if that he grows up he becomes reflective on things and he actually starts to do his job and he does it well and he becomes one of the guys but he also has humanity in them it just is such an amazing I want to say them this movie is so much more than a film it's like a little window on a period of time I know that there are technical things that are maybe not the way that it happened in war I think I'm saying that wrong doesn't matter The movie was meant to convey a feeling it was meant to show you what it's like inside that claustrophobic fucking can The things that men do to other men I can't think Mr Ayer enough for this masterpiece

There's another war movie that follows a Russian tank crew during the Afghan War called The Beast.
I’m not a movie watcher and I usually don’t really care for movies, but Fury was a damn good movie. Damn good cast and imo a damn good director.
I think Fury is the Apocalypse Now of WW2 films. Its very deep and beautiful if you look at it from a character, story, and symbolic perspective though the scenes that try to portray the war its set in are often dramatized and incorrect. I think too many people often think of this as something bad.
Then end scene where the camera pans out from the cross road where the tank crew took there last stand while 100s of body’s of the dead ss Germans surrounded them was so good really sealed the deal with me. Brad Pitt character said the war is gonna end soon but a lot of people are gonna have to die
Great movie, I think the only thing that seemed a little silly was how some of the tank warfare looked like a Star Wars battle scene with the over exhaggerated special effects 😭
I'm pretty sure if I am correct in saying this, the reason it looked like that is because they are tracer rounds
"Tracer rounds contain flammable materials that ignite and produce a bright (but deadly) trail of light towards a target. Intended to guide the shooter during adverse conditions, they can prove to be extremely valuable during low-visibility scenarios."
I think at one point Gordo even mentioned that.
@@starwarsunleashed37201 good point 👍 I knew tracer rounds were used back then I just didn't think it was so abundant from how it was displayed in the film. I know that usually with tracer round loadings every 3rd or 4th round is actually the tracer with every other round being a regular. Either way it was a minor detail I noticed but it didn't bring the film down for me at all. One of my favs!

This is my favorite war movie because it is the best at showing how dark war is and how dark humans can be when in war.
it really isnt, you should check out Platoon or FMJ for an honest depiction of the darkness of war. This was just an America fuck yeah style bullshit war film like We were soldiers etc.

I know I’m late to the party. As a film major I analyze films I like in depth. Yet you’ve brought a perspective to the characters of this film I’ve seen many time I’ve not thought of. Keep up the good work, you’ve earn a new subscriber and I’m onto your 1917 analysis because it too is my favorite war film, and I’m interesting in your take on that beauty.

I have watched “Fury” about 8 times and I think it ranks up there with “Saving Private Ryan” “Pearl Harbor” among others. It truly is a masterpiece

Well I think war daddy was written to want to die in the war. The tank is his home.. he says so. That’s why he stays. He’s too far gone. He can’t go back to normal civilian life and just be okay with that. It’s pretty much spelled out and said to us.
Really what happened is the second world war was done by the romans and genhis khan and many others in different times the difference is that this was modern times.We all thought all this was over.Amazing amazing acting from all characters the best war movie.
Saw it in the theater, and at least 3 times since. A fkng awesome movie, it’s really a perfect film.
I recommend it as a double feature with Inglorious Basterds (this is how Tarantino spelled it for those who don’t know), which is my all-time favorite film and another stellar performance from Brad Pitt. Although it’s radically different from war daddy.

I loved this movie, one of if not my favorite war/ general film. It's realistic because it's savage, dirty, grim. It shows what ww2 was really like. Wish they make a Fury 2 but a flashback through Africa or France.
When I was watching it I got a certain feeling, I can't put my finger on it but It was something.
Just the way they made the movie feel, the vibe.
How the characters are so well written and they all have different traits. And how there just good men in a fucked up situation.
The way they make you feel like your actually there and their friends with you.
SPOILERS
Like how they died, I've never felt that much pain from a fictional character dying Ina while.
The Driver, funny outgoing guy. Then he dies from a grenade after being shot, he sacrificed himself for his friends to live a little longer.
The loader, asshole but cool guy. He gets killed almost instantly after getting him organs blown outta him. I actually screamed when I seen that to.
The Shooter, kind and caring guy. He dies literally instantly from a shot in the head after trying to tell something to Sarge.
Then Sarge, honestly he made me feel comfortable or at least protected in some way.
Now his death kinda fucked me up the most outta all of them (I still envy the others). The way he protects and holds them off for as long as possible. He dies from a grenade or some time of explosive. I shead a couple of tears after seeing him die.
What I'm getting at is we laughed, got mad at them, With them. For them to die in some of the worst ways possible.
One survived but I never felt close to him.
They made you feel close to them, cared for them. For mostly all of them to be killed in a span of a hour.
It's the feeling though, everyone of there deaths hit me like a sledge hammer.
Absolutely one of the best movies ever.

I don't think it's highly accurate in the way things are done in tank squads but it is emotive and confronting in a few scenes.
And I agree the gritt tired troops a beaten people and the hurt is palpable.
The biggest problem with Fury was it was set in April 1945, literally weeks before the war ended, and yet it painted a picture of constant supply problems and logistics issues and things like that. Saying things like "We can't do anything about mechanical problems" when the reality is that if they'd requested mechanical repairs they probably would've been handed a new tank. There were so many of them in vehicle dumps that the logistics officers were begging to not have anymore sent over because they had nowhere to put them...
It's a fantastic movie but it's got some serious historical inaccuracies.
Well no movie about a real historical event is ever truly accurate. As it is this particular movie is not based on a true story but maybe things that did happen.
this is actually a very nonrealistic film i used at like it too and i watched many times and i still like it but the way the ss battalion charged at the tank was like they were zombies and plenty of other stuff
God I love this movie. It really is a masterpiece. Maybe it’s the film climate today, or maybe I just didn’t understand it when I saw it, but I recently rewatched it and fell in love. My first impression was, meh. But now, years later, upon rewatch, I see it for the piece of art it really is. This is an incredible film and deserves multiple watches.
It deserves a trash bin, cause nearly nothing in this movie makes any sense. Not one battle in this movie would have happened like it's shown. The Germans are shown as incompetent and dump as potatoes, how in god's name were they able to conquer half of Europe, if they had fought like this.
i disagree on the simple story critique. the simple story is purposely designed to serve as the backdrop to complex people. it is what makes the movie.

Lots of warmach fans in the comments. They don't even ln know that the biggest inaccuracy is that the fury had a 76mm gun capable of killing a Tigger from the front, but they had to make it look tougher.

I really like Fury but I wouldve changed the speech scene that German officer was doing before the attack on the tank. What I would've done instead however is show the Germans mounting machine guns and getting their weapons ready while Wardaddy and his crew were getting ready for the fight of their lives. That way it gives a darker tone and tells you that these men wont make it out alive.
I mean we got plenty of that. the German speech was important as it is the viewers one reminder that the German at this point are fighting for their homeland, not the Reich

Love this film
The first time I ever watched this movie was on a flight going to normandy(for a church leadership thing) and though the movie does have accuracy problems, it perfectly set me up emotionally to take in normandy. The trip truly wouldnt have been as impactful if it wasnt for watching this movie beforehand
Fury, All Quite on the Western Front and 1917 all war movies that I have not seen and no clue why. Need to add them to my watch list I have with my GF. She never watched many films.

End of the watch with what it is was prob the most real but fury is amazing in almost every way and I see why it’s considered the best
VE Day, or victory in Europe when the Reich surrendered, was May 8. They may have been 5 months from going home, but the European side of the war was gonna be over in a matter of days or a couple weeks.
Also, H*****r shot himself and died Aprill 30, the same month this movie takes place.
6th armored division
Just rewatched this the other night. Absolutely loved it all over again. Love that there is a good community out there who appreciates the good work put into this film. I heard the Director butted heads with the Writer for the last scene in particular because of how outrageous it was. Nontheless, fantastic film. Now onto Battlefield V for some Sherman action!
Yes it is, but "Der Hauptmann" (2017) was the best war film. Firstly, it was a true story and secondly, it was an insight into the psychological background of that German soldier who went from deserter to war criminal.
Interesting I have not seen this film, might have to give it a watch sometime soon thank you for letting me know!

19:35 you made a mistake, G ermany capitulated on the 5th of May 1945, so they were actually only a week or two away from being sent home. the war ended 5 moths later in Japan, but the war was over in Europe

I highly recommend HUNTERS if you like that actor. Also HUNTERS season 2 episode 7 THE HOME is a great standalone piece of art to watch.

19:43 you had an historical innacuracy: Although WW2 ended in September the war in european theater is considered over from May when germans surrendered. So in reality fury's crew had less than a month to go. Not 4 months like stated in the video.

It sucks that they didn’t make it through the war in it’s entirely, I liked that little add on. But it’s just adds meaning that the ones that would surely never, ever be able to reintegrate into society all died as heroes. Those men all died in that tank long ago. Norman saw some serious stuff but he wasn’t going through it for years. Those other men would’ve never been able to be normal ever again. So in the end everyone wins, in a kinda horrible poetic way.

When they shacked up in the lady and her daughters house , i always wondered... Did Wardaddy always show that much grace to the women they encounter or was he showing the new kid a better way.
Also when the tank boys interrupt their meal with the two ladys , are they being rude or is that how them and wardaddy just usually act ?
Well I mean when they walked in they were drunk as hell so they weren’t controlling of themselves. With regards to whether or not he was trying to make the kid act like a better person I just think he knew that given that circumstance of them alone he wanted to make him understand not everything must be taught but treated with respect.
