Ripping the 650 Build in Pittsburg with a Polaris squad! Had some issues at the end of the ride!

- Another call from Lenn meant another trip up to Pittsburg right after the Superbowl. Trails were a little thin and icey but can't complain about riding on a Monday! The 650 ran like a champ all day until the last 5 miles, some small issues that were remedied but still has me thinking...is it time to swap this engine out for something a little better!? Watch along, listen to my thoughts and throw your opinions in the comments on what I should do with this chassis!

just left Pittsburg NH, I was there Feb 18th-23rd and absolutely phenomenal. Saw your video a few weeks ago did some research and drove up there from just outside Buffalo NY. Thanks for your content! Amazing trip!!!!!!
This makes me so happy to hear! Thank you for commenting in here and letting me know. Honestly I'm very glad this vid helped you out and got you up there on the snow. It does bum me out a bit my content is lagging about a week behind, but it's just the way it has shaped up with the work/life/channel balance. Regardless, thank you for reporting in and taking the trip to support the area. Feel free to reach out to me at munsonmotorsports@gmail.com anytime to ask about conditions, I may not know exactly, but I can try to find out haha
A 9R VR1 would be pretty sweet man!
I agree its been amazing what the clubs have salvaged out of this terrible weather. its looking really grim now, but we can always hope for a huge storm to bring some riding back.
Looks like we might get that fluke storm after all! I'm afraid it's a bit too late though...time will tell!
Nice riding boys! Exactly how the Polaris needs to be run 🤙🏻
Do the indy specialities set up, who wants to ride a sled on the bar all day and be flat on power after 1/2 throttle
That's the biggest downfall, in VT it's awesome, but Pittsburg and Canada it just has it's neck wrung allllll day long.
I noticed in your Island Pond video and this you do a great job of being hard right on blind left turns and up and over hills. That orange stripe jacket guy and the other dude you passed are all over the place. Over the center mark on blind spots. Sorry but I had to mention it. You’re not only faster but safer.
Thank you for the good words, I do my best to ride right while at pace. Having the sleds really dialed in to my preferences and theories certainly does help a good bit
I concur, leave it alone, the 650 content is fantastic. There’s already other guys doing the 9r swap. It’s cool seeing the small block dominate in the twisties. Maybe show us what can be done to maximize the 650’s performance.
Plans are coming together rapidly, but I have some awesome ideas for next season I'm hoping to pull together for the 6'ers power class!
Next time up, go down the back side of stub hill, much more interesting
I feel like this might be a trap hahaha. If I get back up there and can find it maybe I'll give it a go!
@@MunsonMotorsports not a trap! Just a little technical decent with great views
Leave it alone keep it the way it is.
Poll question response: Why would you mess with that sled that you rave about? Leave it alone! Another great and informative video. I give you props for riding those conditions. How are those sleds not overheating?
That's my problem hahah! I can't leave anything alone 😵💫....As for the temps, I have no idea how the 650 ran so cool, it has always been cold blooded compared to any other rig in the group. The others in the group all had scratchers but I don't have them nor did I need them, somehow.
Repeated broken porcelain on plugs means the engine is detonating. Fuel or tuning issues.
I would normally agree without hesitation, but I had one plug insulator break on two separate machines, my N/A 650 and my Boost Assault. Both on different fuels (both pump 93 but when the issues arose fuel was from different stations) and stock tunes. The 650 never threw any DET codes (doesn't mean it didn't have any knock events), the Boost threw codes after the insulator broke. Both broken plugs were from the same box of 4 so I'm assuming the box had been dropped or there's a bad batch. First time seeing this in 5 years running these plugs, that said we'll see if the issue continues!
Great content. Like seeing the 650 but get where you are coming from. What ever you decide to do will be great
another great video. I really enjoy watching your 650 run with the big boys.
Thank you! It sure is a fun machine, it's just heartbreaking to have it to the bar all day AND just maintain gap/pace haha
@@MunsonMotorsports 😂 if you’d have had an 850 you’d have been bored having to keep slowing down!
I got to do what you did to your snowflap to my 650 for low snow hardpack conditions
It actually worked really really well! The smoked lexan blends in pretty well too and isn't suuuppeeerrr noticeable out on the snow which is also nice

Another great video, I’ll be in Pittsburg this weekend!
I like that snow flap extension! Any suggestions on how to address stripped out threads on the rear grab bar for the screw through the aluminum plate that comes up from the bottom?
A ton of clapped out trails in The Forks last weekend and my bolt stripped out the threads on my grab bar and now my flap is flopping all over the place.
The best I've been able to come up with is either size it up from M6x1.00 to M8x1.25, but you don't have much meat there for that. Alternative I've done is drill and tap a new M6x1.00 hole in one of the two other holes off to the sides, again, not much meat to work with there. You could also look into using some rubber straps like the snocross guys do/did to hold their flaps up!
Im guessing at 8000 rpm you are well past the 45 mph speed limit
If you're super happy with it as it sits there's no need to frankenstein it !
9R swap would create a lot of new content.
9R is off the table but there is definitely something else ON the table! Unrelated, I noticed your avatar picture, a friend of mine runs an awesome hunting channel that might be cool for you to check out! ua-cam.com/users/wanderingwhitetails
Great video!
Thanks! More are on the way, a lot of shop content coming up but they will be followed up quickly with riding/testing!
9r swap
I’m planning on heading up there again early March. But I hope there’s still snow. Got some warm weather coming
I hear that! I'm really hoping they hold on to what they've got and pick up some more, but next week isn't looking too favorable 😑
Nice hat !
Len’s new light ?
Fancy prototype thing he's working on. Hopefully it makes it to production 'cause it' makes me super jealous haha
998 genesis turbo swap??!?
Probably a 9r swap though right
@@Duramax_Yamahaguy A 9R is off the table, I don't like those huge pistons and the harmonics that come with them. If there were a reasonable way to retain reverse/adapt a mechanical reverse system to this chaincase, I would love to stuff a turbo'd 1200 Doo or 900T into one of these chassis...but I would also lose the 7S so for those reasons, I'm out haha
Just wondering what kind of oil do you use in your sled. Polaris oil on so expensive
Whatever u could afford, it doesn't matter. I know guys who run the cheapest Walmart oil in sleds since I met them in 2015. Doos, cats and Polaris, it doesn't matter
I run strictly Klotz in my sleds. I've heard good things about Mystik, some folks love the Amsoil stuff. Pretty much any of them will lubricate just fine, how you ride will determine which one best suites you as I've seen/found certain oils respond better to certain conditions strictly in regards to exhaust valve cleanliness. Klotz works the best for me so that's what I've stuck with.
Sounds good. Thank you
I run champions.....
I may have to see what they're BR9EYA cross reference is and try a set out!
I'm in Florida now..if I was at home I would look for you....
