I just completed my Trickster playtrough with a Phantasmal Mage gnome, and it´s SUPER fun. Being able to make all your phatasmal killers and weirds and shadow spells Persistent for free is VERY nice.
Bombs are great because of touch attack and enemies tend to have low touch AC and holy/force bombs are great vs demons, however they do have some disadvantages compared to kingmaker. I have not found a single bombedier belt in WotR whereas you could get 10 extra bombs a day with the one you got in kingmaker, which really cuts down on how many you can have. There's also the issue that because of inflated stats on enemies, it takes a lot more damage to kill them, and you can really burn through bombs quickly and with the corruption mechanic you can only take so many rests before you start getting hit by hard penalties unlike kingmaker where you just needed to bring along camping supplies. This really sucks on the longer dungeons like midnight fane where you are fighting a ton of encounters.
I haven't tested this myself but heard a rumor. If you take Trickster, along with two ranks of the Nature Mythic Trick, you can get items from Kingmaker. Supposedly this also includes some of the really cool Alchemist specific items.
As far as the "Demons are immune to electricity, lightning spells are useless" comments go....isn't there a mythic ability/feat that allows you to make one energy type unaffected by resistances or immunities? I'm looking at making a fire-focused sorcerer after seeing that option on one of my playthroughs.
Bombs over bites is just simple logic. And liking a class because it's a cheesy dip doesn't count.😁 The bad part is, I know Pathfinder well, and I'm still a Chronic restartitis sufferer. Loved Archaeologist in KM, once the song feats were fixed to work with Luck. Will probably make a aldori/Arch for a Trickster.
I ran an Azata crusader cleric of desna the entire beta (what can I say I got a favorite). I found, unlike kingmaker where it loses a lot, with the abundant mythics that everyone’s gonna take most likely crusader doesn’t really lose anything. You may have to take impossible domain if you really want that other domain but that’s personal taste and who needs a wolf when you get a dragon anyway.
Im with you Sykes! I only like mixing Vivasectionist with 3/4 BAB classes which don't already have other spellslots (ie: a few types of Rogue, and thats about it.)
On Bloodrager, I've just completed my first playthrough on Core as a Bloodrager Primalist 16/Dragon Disciple 4 as a Gold Dragon and I like it quite a bit. The ability to pick up some rage powers, in particular pouncing from the Beast Totem line, means that when a dragon comes barreling down a hallway as a charge that target is very likely dead in the first round. Even when I was missing (and you miss a fair amount on core just due to the insanely high ACs they put on some things) I was still dealing a boatload of damage with Destructive Shockwave since my Strength was always 50+ in Gold Dragon form. Toss in Shatter Defenses/Cornugon Smash line and as long as a target can be shaken you just devour them.
Recently i started a gestalt run on Hard probably will bump it to custom unfair for the sake of fairness. Gestalt makes you level up two classes at the same time, usual can be wizard/sorc or oracle/paladin. You should give it a try since it opens up to a lot of fun mix while allowing you to test the game on much harder difficulty. Turns out the hellknight rescue mission in the cave can be a real headache on hard and above, I restarted it like 8 times to avoid having someone die. I went grenadier/brown-fur on nenio. To be honest I don't use her arcanist slot as much as I expected on buffing because they last long enough for most encounters or you don't have enough arcane pool to keep buffing and using buff spell, at least it allowed my reformed fiend 2H weapon to hit for +20 and 35-50 dmg at level 5/6 . Besides vivisectionist is great but not as pure, usually it's either a dip or I found a 4 knife master/16 vivi that works very well on base woljif, grand mutagen and cognatogen seems insane but you have access to them only at level 18 meaning most of the game is already over so just like a lot of level 20 class feature it makes you realize the most important part of a class is level 4 to 17. In my opinion, Instinctual warrior is a real contender to best unarmored tank even just as a few dip, Sword Saint and duelist to some extend are insane too.
How did you do a gestalt run in WOTR? I had a lot of fun with those in Kingmaker using the gestalt mod but I can't find one for WOTR. Did you use toybox for that? Is there an option to freeze character level so that you can do two level ups for one or something? Can you describe how you did it? Also on topic of the video in regards to having fun with lightning. I heard that spellcasting Azata is crazy when you combine chain lightning with zippy magic and that other magical super power that I forgot the name of(and mythic feat to ignore elemental resistances of course because of demon immunities). I haven't tried it myself but from what I've heard and seen you can probably slot chain lightning into every single spell level with metamagic and just zap everything all day long. Make sure to use the blue haired rock general portrait for maximum immersion. You won't kill 666 units with a single scorching ray but it'll be close enough.
@@gheed2633 toybox as the option to do so, only issue is that it stays active in between run so if you go back and forth between two runs you have to change the parameters too
I'm the same way as regards roleplay versus maxing gameplay. Nothing wrong if someone has fun min-maxing and going for maximum results if they enjoy the challenge of doing that and are having fun. But for me...it's not so much optimal builds as it is my character perception and style. That's why I prefer playing at the lower difficulty levels. Beyond core, I think you really do have to emphasize gameplay and character building mechanics through min-maxing and you have to go with mercenaries rather than companions (with the possible exception of the elven dreadnaught Ember). Again, if someone enjoys the challenge and difficulty of playing at the higher difficulties, that's great. The most important thing is to have fun.
Exactly and that's part of the reason why I really enjoy making builds. Most content creators are concerned with min-maxing which leaves an opening for me to give a completely different take on things.
Be careful with Brown fur transmuter. There's a bug that if you Cast dragonkind to an animal companion (Bismouth in my case), sometimes when you level Up you could lose all its equiped items. As a character, I use it with 9 Brown fur, 3 HK signifier, 4 mutagen fighter, 4 dragón disciple and Lich. Frontline heavy Armor with corrupted Radiance, hell yeah
While I am going to point out that I use the toy Box mod along with this, I loved my 1st play through using a crusader cleric of iomadae dual wielding long swords whilst going on the angel mythic path. I loved having my character be this holy terror on the battlefield. If you're not within melee range you'll just call down one of those godly air strikes to vaporize enemies, and if hes in melee range he'll just slash at you with one of his two sacred long swords.
I didn't realized that Preservationist is basically Pokemon Trainer, until i seen some YT comments about it. I'll try some Ecclesiteurge some day, so i could get rid of Low dex Tristan trauma from Pathfinder
Just an FYI, the final Lich-only companion is a storm caller bard, so you can get some experience with them that way. Sadly, you only get them very, very late (they're in Iz), but IIRC, they do actually have a vaguely sensible build - unlike, say, the first lich companion, who was built by a drunk monkey rolling across a keyboard. And I appreciate the 'flavour over mechanics' approach - my aborted (due to bugs) demon playthrough was with a Feral Champion warpriest, and I'm dipping my toe into playing with a Kinetic Knight now (aiming for Aeon). Neither are 'meta' - the latter class is meme-tier - but I like the idea of them, so that's what I rolled with. Not like I'm playing on unfair or hard, where you're kinda forced into meta play.
Yeah I heard you cannot respec Lich companions to Level 1 so I am prepared for the horrendous builds. Hopefully my Lich is so powerful it does not matter too much.
@@SlanderedGaming FWIW, I played through with the lich-only companions as much as possible (on core) and didn't have any significant problems. The one you get at the very start of act 5 is only level 3 (dual scimitar wielding fighter), so you can mould them much as you'd wish beyond that. I made them a Bloodrager, with the bloodlines that gave as much reach as possible, and they were an absolute *blender*. I swear, they alone did over 40% of the entire group's damage (my lich was more about disabling than damage - the only reason it's not higher is the archer character you get early on was also very deadly). Really, it's only the first character where you're really left scratching your head and wondering 'wtf?!'. And he was still an effective tank for me, thanks to warpriest's swift-action self-healing.
I actually ran through kingmaker with a kinetic knight/paladin rogue and she slapped people around hard as long as we didn’t fight golems. She was earth and fire for kinetic blasts and hospitaler. The build went knight 10/rogue 3/paladin 7 and it was actually really good
A lot of instinctual barb features dont work properly with items/features that affect rage apparently - probably not typed appropriately. All bard active abilities arent typed. That means you cant increase DC of thundercallers most important features (thundercall/fascinate) with spell focus anymore (they were typed in kingmaker - probably a bug).
^same with warpriest but warpriest also gets a bunch of really good class features. 1 of them gets smite, 1 of them gets 6d6 or so sneak, 1 of them gets an aoe guaranteed damage against demons as a swift action. All of them get weapon enchants like holy/axiomatic/brilliant energy in kit. Their level 1 special abilities are crazy good as well tho the good ones scale with level so no 1 dip here. Check out warpriest. Imo the better crusader. Eccelsithurge is obviously still the best caster tho.
@@WhirlwindHeatAndFlash The main drawback with Warpriest is the limited spell levels. They only go up to spell lvl 6, while Crusaders get the full lvl 9. This can make a huge difference with Angel mythic path (combined spellbook). I mean, I definitely agree that Warpriests get amazing kits, which is why I constantly gravitate towards them vs a Crusader, but once you factor in going Angel, the Crusaders suddenly makes Warpriest sound like a downgrade.
Always cool to see what people like playing. Here's a list of all my favourite archetypes (though if I prefer the vanilla class I'll note it) Alchemist, Grenadier Arcanist, White Mage (vanilla normally) Barbarian, Mad Dog Bard, Dirge Bard (vanilla normally) Bloodrager, Primalist (hopefully this archetype functions properly at some point haha) Cavalier, No opinion (just haven't read enough in to the class, even in pen and paper) Cleric, Crusader Druid, Primal Druid Fighter, Mutation Warrior Hunter, Divine Hunter (vanilla normally) Inquisitor, Judge Kineticist, Kinetic Knight Magus, Eldritch Archer Monk, Sensei Oracle, Divine Herbalist (vanilla normally) Paladin, Stonelord Ranger, Freebooter (vanilla normally) Rogue, Thug Shaman, Shadow Shaman Skald, Battle Singer (another class I hope works properly in the future because it can't use rage powers properly) Slayer, Arcane Enforcer Sorcerer, Sage Warpriest, Feral Champion (vanilla normally) Witch, Elemental Witch (vanilla normally) Wizard, Exploiter Wizard
@@SlanderedGaming it also works on characters with bite attacks. you can take the razor tusk feet on animal companions to give them a bite attack. also leopards get pounce eventually i forget what level but it gives them a full attack just like a barbarian with a bite/trip at the end its pretty cool.
phatasmal mage is still great if you intend to do metamagic, then you can mix your font meta with your regular meta AND then you can even add rod meta! :D
Personally, for Bard, I think base Bard is best Bard. A fair chunk of the fandom swears by Archeologist, and some of the other sub-classes (like Dirge) have some good abilities for specific builds. But really no subclass or archetype in Bard outshines the Bard itself, particularly in turning your entire party into a wrecking machine. That said I kind of don't like Bard (of any type) as the Main Character, thematically, for the same reason you don't particularly envision Brown Fur Arcanist as a Main Character. But that's probably the real main reason lots of people like Archeologist - it's more stand-alone-character (or, selfish, compared to the base Bard). But that strength is also its drawback because you'd get better personal enhancements just going Magus or Slayer or Inquisitor or Ranger or...you get the point. Not that Archeologist is bad, it's just not, to me, the way to go with Bard.
Dirge Bard is pretty much a pure upgrade to the base bard class. You don't really lose anything meaningful and gain great saves, free spells and abilities.
I'm 100% trying a chevalier. Will most likely be my 3rd playthrough once I m done on my good dragon. Will probably even try core difficulty which is bound to be painful as I'm also RP-heavy casual playing on normal)
Played a cavalier my 1st run. Loved it. Bad part is the only class calling to me for a second run is...cavalier. With a Pally splash this time, as opposed to being Chaotic Good before.
@@АйдоралСмертестойкий Because Cavalier gets better mounted feats for better charge damage. And that way you and Seelah aren't the same toon. One is the hammer. The other the anvil.
My favorite playthrough in the beta (when it went to Act 4) was with a Cleric Crusader going Angel mythic path. I wanted a character that could cast, but also stand in the front and it worked out pretty good. Alot of those Angel spells were so OP I was killing everything so fast lol. Right now I'm playing as a Magus Sword Saint/Duelist Aeon, and the mythic class abilities seem a little weaker, but the resistances are pretty good. Sword Saint + Duelist makes up for any shortcomings though with my AC hitting like 70+. Needless to say, most enemies need to roll a 20 to hit that guy lol I also always make a grenaider merc cause bombs :). Next character I wana try to make a Sorc/Dragon Disciple (with a 1 monk dip) going Lich or Gold Dragon, or I was also thinking Barbarian/2 handed fighter then going legend (that +40BAB sounds pretty amazing lol).
If you're going heavy into 2HF, I've heard a lvl 1 dip in Rowdy is amazing for Vital Strike. Apparently going 2HF class is the best way to abuse Vital Strike mechanics: it scales much better with STR than with Sneak Attacks. Then simply grab the improved Vital Strike feats (and Mythic) whenever you can and you should be golden. Bonus points for using a Fauchard (6ft range and best crit range) or Scythe (amazing crit multiplier and Wide Sweep basically turns VS into a nuke).
@@brainnsfw7346 I've never really used Vital Strike so that sounds pretty interesting so I'll probably give it a shot, although I think if going Legend path you wont really have to worry about dips for feats since you'll get so many. In my current playthrough I've got Seelah as a 2HF/Paladin (went to level 8 fighter for greater weapon focus) with a Fauchard. I use power attack and corrungun (forgot how to spell it lol) smash which works ok. She hits like a truck though safely behind my sword saint lol
@@chaotic_intent Well, the dip in Rowdy is usually for the Vital Force "feat" that's exclusive to Rowdy rogue. That adds 2d6 dmg for every lvl of sneak attack you have (basically tripling your sneak attacks), if you're using Vital Strike. In other words: the dip gives you some tasty bonus dmg (3d6) on top of a free Vital Strike feat. If you add some bonus sneak attacks through feats (not a huge priority if you're going for 2HF, but definitely nice), you get another 3d6 instead of 1d6. With the huge amount of free feats as a fighter, this can scale pretty out of hand. If you're doing Legend, this could combine great with Slayer (after 2HF 20), as they get full BAB, a good chunk of sneak attacks and bonus feats as well.
The thing about Vivisectionist is that it should not be compared to other Alchemists. The reason Vivi is praised so much is actually that it's a better rogue in every possible way. On top of the full Sneak attack progression you get Mutagen, spellcasting in armor and Discoveries, plus being Int based means you are an even better skillmonkey. The only notable things you lose are free weapon finess (aka 2 feats), uncanny dodge and debilitating strike, which are not really enough to compensate.
I think in turn based and turn based only sylvan trickster is the best rogue now. Hexes are just crazy good but attacking + cackle free action doesnt work well in rtwp (or at all for that matter). Viv cant pick opportunist either (even tho it shows up in the preview - its not actually there to pick). Spells, transformation and elixir are obviously still good but yea. Hexes are broken.
You can turn all damage from your bombs to negative energy and something else I cannot remember. It's covered somewhere in this video: ua-cam.com/video/u8ZPMKXk6as/v-deo.html
I just started putting Seelah into steelblood after 3 levels in paladin with the celestial bloodline. Seems like a good fit, heavy armor sword and shield with celestial bonuses. Will be much stronger at melee with rage, speed boost and nice buffs with 1 min/level duration vs paladin. Taking a 2nd bloodline like serpent will make it even stronger. There's not many melee classes that make use of her cha for something if you want to get off of boring plain paladin.
Honestly I’m super interested in playing an eldritch font arcanist I would like to play a phantasmal mage but like fuck gnomes. However eldritch font gets extra casts and I really like the idea of using exploits while dumping out a ridiculous amount of meta magic augmented spells Additionally I kinda want to make an angel bloodrager who carves through demons with either a great sword or a fauchard.
Whoever's saying that the pronounciation of 'Chevalier' is wrong, really needs to get their education in line ... both the word Cavalier and the military term of Cavalry stems from the french Chevalier which is based on the french word for horse, Cheval. A Chevalier, in historical terms, was just a mounted combatant, therefor calling a Cavalier a Chevalier is 100% correct ;)
You still need to have some form of CC in the game. A lot of enemies who are immune to mind manipulation are weak against something else so just keep the attacks varied.
A lot of people aren't thinking about those things when they watch the content, they are just enjoying a video. Putting up a reminder reinforces that throwing down a like or a comment significantly helps the content creator. It's not really about providing new information.
20:32 Regardless of what you THINK it is pronounced CAV-uh-Leer. At least as far as what the class is currently named. Now there IS the fact that based on the mechanics of the class it SHOULD have been named Chavalier. I get it, but mark the difference in your video about you thinking it is actually pronounced one way, versus what the class should be, which is Sheh-vall-lee-ay, or Sheh-vuh-Leer based on differences between French and English. Otherwise people are going to keep pestering you about it, and they would be correct.

@@SlanderedGaming Spoiler
Supposedly that's tied to the Trickster knowing who he really is. Laws of space and time no longer apply, I presume. Lol
@@shawngillogly6873 THE WORLDS A GAME!
Strange theirs no mythic passsive for them? A missed opportunity when theirs already the unlimited Shapeshifting one.
As far as the "Demons are immune to electricity, lightning spells are useless" comments go....isn't there a mythic ability/feat that allows you to make one energy type unaffected by resistances or immunities? I'm looking at making a fire-focused sorcerer after seeing that option on one of my playthroughs.
Yup there absolutely is. Definitely plan to take it for my Thundercaller.
Bombs over bites is just simple logic. And liking a class because it's a cheesy dip doesn't count.😁
The bad part is, I know Pathfinder well, and I'm still a Chronic restartitis sufferer.
Loved Archaeologist in KM, once the song feats were fixed to work with Luck. Will probably make a aldori/Arch for a Trickster.
Yeah I used to take Linzi with me all the time.
Yup having that Dragon makes all the difference.
This may sound crazy but i absolutely love my main character being a buffing class. BFT all the way for me
Im with you Sykes! I only like mixing Vivasectionist with 3/4 BAB classes which don't already have other spellslots (ie: a few types of Rogue, and thats about it.)
Yeah I like keeping my builds RP centric.
Yup that is definitely a fantastic combbination.
@@gheed2633 toybox as the option to do so, only issue is that it stays active in between run so if you go back and forth between two runs you have to change the parameters too
Yup Chain Lightening Azata is exactly what I plan to do for my Core playthrough on the channel.
Thanks for making my altitis even stronger!
LOL My pleasure!
Wow that is a VERY interesting combination. LOL
Yup that sounds like a FANTASTIC time.
I agree ... love playing Grenadier and I am thinking of Trickster also ;^)
My Trickster Grenadier playthrough is going VERY well thus far.
I really been liking the Cavalier of the paw
Yeah the mechanics look like a ton of fun.
I didn't realized that Preservationist is basically Pokemon Trainer, until i seen some YT comments about it. I'll try some Ecclesiteurge some day, so i could get rid of Low dex Tristan trauma from Pathfinder
Ecc. Cleric with Knowledge or Luck domain is the only divine caster who can spam true strike, if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah I love the idea of Preservationsist but just can't let go of Grenadier.
Please post a video of your grenadier trickster build!
As soon as I reach level 20 will do!
I´m pretty sure Wolf and Dog arent the only automatic trippers. I think the Monitor Lizard and the Leopard also get free trips.
Oh good call out I need to take a closer look at the animal list.
@@SlanderedGaming The leopard is particularly useful because it has sky-hgh dex, so it can survive hits better than the wolf.
i played a chirurgeon on through the ashes and loved it.
Nice yeah it probably works really well in that limited setting.
@Slandered Gaming and it fit from a rp standpoint. I went with sort of a village healer character
The build went knight 10/rogue 3/paladin 7 and it was actually really good
Please consider doing a video on Kineticist.
Yup that will definitely be one of the classes I cover.
Crap that's unfortunate regarding both classes. Hope that gets fixed.
Crusader getting greater weapon focus and specialization is really juicy !
The better non-angel crusader, at least.
Yup and Angel gets a ton of things to boost your weapon damage. Can absolutely go to town against enemies.
Always cool to see what people like playing. Here's a list of all my favourite archetypes (though if I prefer the vanilla class I'll note it)
Alchemist, Grenadier
Arcanist, White Mage (vanilla normally)
Barbarian, Mad Dog
Bard, Dirge Bard (vanilla normally)
Bloodrager, Primalist (hopefully this archetype functions properly at some point haha)
Cavalier, No opinion (just haven't read enough in to the class, even in pen and paper)
Cleric, Crusader
Druid, Primal Druid
Fighter, Mutation Warrior
Hunter, Divine Hunter (vanilla normally)
Inquisitor, Judge
Kineticist, Kinetic Knight
Magus, Eldritch Archer
Monk, Sensei
Oracle, Divine Herbalist (vanilla normally)
Paladin, Stonelord
Ranger, Freebooter (vanilla normally)
Rogue, Thug
Shaman, Shadow Shaman
Skald, Battle Singer (another class I hope works properly in the future because it can't use rage powers properly)
Slayer, Arcane Enforcer
Sorcerer, Sage
Warpriest, Feral Champion (vanilla normally)
Witch, Elemental Witch (vanilla normally)
Wizard, Exploiter Wizard
Nice. Some of the later classes match what I like as well. Elemental Witch is awesome.
leopard has trip as well. I actually like it more than wolf.
Really I didn't notice that on the sheet. Will have to check that again.
@@SlanderedGaming most times that stuff has bite it gets a free trip action with bite.
@@michaelhughes9278 Oh cool! Definitely didn't realize that. I am going to have to look through the animal companions again.
😂 Great point.
I just used toybox to give my vivesectionist bombs, the master vivisectionist is what i call him
Awesome!
Pure Bard is definitely a strong choice that I considered but I like the flavor both of the subclasses I mentioned provide.
@@shawngillogly6873 But why making specifically cavalier with paladin splash if you can make a pure mount oriented pally as Seelah proved?
@@АйдоралСмертестойкий Because Cavalier gets better mounted feats for better charge damage. And that way you and Seelah aren't the same toon. One is the hammer. The other the anvil.
Really looking forward to mounted combat once that charge bug is fixed.
What's wrong with being the buffer for your party?
Absolutely nothing but I would say it's not people's preferred playstyle.
Unfortunately, I never figured out how to change the second domain before or when resting.
Yeah I never played around with it either honestly.
Yeah I like Crusader for roleplaying and the Rowdy dip actually sounds nice.
Yeah I agree the subclass makes for an incredible Rogue.
What does Lich have that specifically benefits Alchemist?
You can turn all damage from your bombs to negative energy and something else I cannot remember. It's covered somewhere in this video: ua-cam.com/video/u8ZPMKXk6as/v-deo.html
In Kingmaker my Grenadier and Thundercaller mercenaries carried the whole team.
Nice! Really looking forward to checking out Thundercaller.
Yeah I am a BIG Steelblood fan and can definitely see it being useful to Seelah.
Unfortunately, Dirge Bard is bugged, and their ability to target undead with their spells does not work...
Really? Is that since the new patch?

Whoever's saying that the pronounciation of 'Chevalier' is wrong, really needs to get their education in line ... both the word Cavalier and the military term of Cavalry stems from the french Chevalier which is based on the french word for horse, Cheval. A Chevalier, in historical terms, was just a mounted combatant, therefor calling a Cavalier a Chevalier is 100% correct ;)
