@Paul.J I don't know any foreign tourist in our country who burns our flag openly. As to enforcement of laws being racist, it's not the enforcement but rather the ones who enforce using their personal biases toward certain groups of people. It's hard to understand this until you're on the receiving end. You are joke thinking respecting cultures as TOURIST is equivalent to the issues of refugees and immigrants in our country.

As a XXL size in America I had a tough time finding clothes in Thailand. Which was a bummer since I really liked the styles of clothing I saw. The solution was easy though. I had some clothes made at tailor shops. The tailors were inexpensive and easy to deal with. Though I would advise steering clear of any pushy tailors in tourist areas.

Greetings from Dali, China!! These are great - you covered it all .. . unless I missed it - do you guys suggest getting a sim card within country, or do you suggest an international phone plan?
You are right, politics and religion are the primary taboo topics in any part of Asia. Although any religion is widely accepted and respected in the Philippines but tried to avoid it out of respect, and rather just focus on positive and inspiring topics. Our elderly always used to say "If you don't have anything good and encouraging to say, just keep your mouth shut."
In Bangkok, go down to the lower gnd floor and the Public taxi rank, you'll get a ticket and the woman at the desk will ask where you are going and the fair is fixed! +50Baht fee! Also in Cambodia there is a phone booth outside siem reap Airport, buy a sim card and credit, don't use your normal sim and roam, very expensive, in Bkk they have phone booths outside the arrivals, about 300baht for 2gb for a month! Learn to say hello and thank you in the country you are travelling in, just put of politeness! Don't plug your phone into the mains sockets to recharge, use a powerbank and then charge from the powerbank, i noticed UK phone batteries are killed by the Voltage in Asia, the Negative circuit is not tied to the ground and you will get slight electric tingling shocks on your laptop when plugged into the mains! In Thailand the ATM machines give you money and then return your card which is usually the opposite way round, twice i've collected money and walked away leaving my card inside the ATM because normally you would get your card before the money, Don't rent a scooter if you don't have the relevant licence for one, 1, in Thailand they are cracking down on it and 2 if you aren't qualified then you don't have the experience to ride safely and vastly increase your chances of an accident and if you do have an accident then your insurance will be invalid!
One little tip about Sim cards, typically at the airport you will find several shops who sell sim cards, especially sim cards for tourist.. which is nice, but not always the cheapest and not always the best coverage... So before going somewhere just make a little search about the best 4G provider .. And last but not least, when i arrive i always question someone at the airport (typically a local Geek who looks like Jimmy) about the best sim card provider. One example? Hong kong when you pass the custom in the public area you have in front of you.. a huge sim card reseller (that was my local sim card provider) .. Don't go.. just go a little further on your right.. you will have a better one with better coverage for the same price..The difference? a paradise in terms of speed and coverage compare to my usual tourist sim card provider.. one tip amongst others.
Thanks for the video very helpful! For the scooters I would highly recommend to not use a scooter at all. It's incredibly dangerous even for experienced drivers.
I've experienced the struggle in taking money from an atm in the Philippines using my foreign visa debit card and it was really inconvenient, I'm Filipino though ✌️
Excellent job as always. Somehow, this should be mandatory viewing for nearly any tourist going to SEA. Had an interesting experience relating to the cultural sensitivity you raised. Was in Saigon last month and one afternoon I went to September 23 Park. This is a park where Vietnamese students like to go to meet with foreigners to practice their English. I was quickly approached by a brother and sister (age 13 and 15) asking to talk with me. I was eager to practice my Vietnamese and spent a very enjoyable hour with them as they were quite smart and surprisingly good with their English. At one point the conversation drifted to bad governments and then the war. I almost corrected them on a few misconceptions (at least from a US perspective) but caught myself before saying much. As Americans we grow up taking freedom of speech for granted. I had suddenly realized I was in a communist country (duh) and kept my mouth shut. hahaha I'm sure there would have been no problem with the kids but if the wrong person overheard the wrong statements, things could get ugly. Happy trails.
You are right, politics and religion are the primary taboo topics in any part of Asia. Although any religion is widely accepted and respected in the Philippines but tried to avoid it out of respect, and rather just focus on positive and inspiring topics.
Great tips. I've been to a lot of Asian countries (South East Asia, Far East, Indian subcontinent, Arabian Peninsula), and I agreed with all of it. Just a little side note regarding religious sites, you mention temples (Buddhist and Hindu) but some you have shown in the video are Islamic mosques, where you have to cover up. Other than that, everything that was mentioned are absolutely correct
Shoe size 38-40 european is normal here in Finland, Im M size woman and my feet is size 39. In US my clothes were small or extra small. So it really differes in every country.
Hey guys ! As you bounce from country to country, what do you do about health insurance ? We are close to retirement age and would like to visit several countries in SE Asia for several months each, but wonder if health insurance may be very expensive since we are older.
I got tired removing my shoes in Laos. Also their steps seem gigantic made for giants,. And leaving the airport in Vientiane the money changer won't take the Laos bills. One thing I notice when you change money at bureau de change they tend to give large bills which present a problem trying to spend at small stores or for taxis. So I usually hand them back at least two big bills and have them give me some smaller bills. I'm speaking from experience where I had that problem. Mexico used to have lots of zeros on their bills like Indonesia, Vietnam but changed their currency and cut down on those zeros which might benefit the retailer if the customer is drunk and hand over a bill not looking at the zeros.
I come across people recommending activated charcoal alot for food poisoning, but this is not sound advice. Charcoal is good for poisoning and chemical overdoses, but food poisoning is caused by bacteria, not poison. Charcoal is useless against bacteria. Another risk with it being used carelessly is that it isn't selective in regard to what chemical compounds it absorbs, so if you are on any medications it will nullify the effect of said medications. This is of extreme importance for people taking meds for chronic conditions as any serious contraindications between their meds and the charcoal could be disastrous.
More importantly, have the proper licence to drive a motorcycle in Thailand. Many farangs rent it without having an actual motorcycle license. In Thailand you have no 50cc, it's 125 cc and up. So it's a motorcycle, but most farangs rent it just without a motorcycle license. I see it every day here, they getting fines for not having the proper license. The guy that rents you the bike won't ask for it, he doesn't care. Also remember, almost never insurance is included. So if you have an accident be prepared to pay, especially if you also don't have the proper license. Just my two cents....
Korea doesn't sell women shoe size larger than eight. I will never be able to buy shoes there. I shopped at addidas, and had to buy from the men section 😢😢
Don't expect to find size 13 flip flops in thailand . After much searching i found some at a used shoe place. The vender said they came from a farange who was killed in a scooter accident ... knocked him right out of his shoes .
