The reason Neville is so freaked out when Moody performs the Cruciatus curse on the bug is that his parents were tortured to the point of insanity by one of Voldemort's most loyal followers last time he was in power. It's why Neville was raised by his grandmother.
And to add insult to injury, Barty Crouch Jr. was one of the followers that helped torture Neville's parents.

In my personal viewing, three actors have portrayed losing a child to perfection. Jeff Rawle/Amos Diggory, Bernard Hill/Théoden King, (Lord of the Rings) and Caitriona Balfe/Claire Fraser (Outlander).
Moody was captured and put in the chest before the school year. They go into that in detail in the book. Because Crouch Jr. needed to keep making the potion through out the year and cutting hair of Moody's head and adding it in.
So yeah.. he was trapped in the chest for 8 or 9-ish months.
in the movie, Fake Igor Karkaroff(barty crouch jr) put Harry's name in the goblet..........you can see this in the scene between the announcement of the triwizard tournament and before the first defense against the dark arts class
@@AlexisStreams That wasn't barty crouch jr pretending to be Karkaroff, that was just something they had to add in the movie, as a misdirect, so that the audience would suspect Karkaroff and think he's the bad guy. In the book, Karkaroff and Ludo Bagman were the misdirects, but since they cut Bagman's character in the film, I guess they had to make Karkaroff seem even more suspicious to throw off the audience.

@@AlexisStreams of course they aren't going to show moody going into the great hall in the film, that would give the whole thing away. They don't want to make moody seem suspicious. In the books also, you don't get a scene "showing" us moody going into the hall to do anything - what happened is only later revealed at the end of the book. The film doesn't do a good job explaining later how moody did it, they just completely skipped over that. The Karkaroff scene was just stuck in the film as a misdirect.

The reason that Ron was so jealous was because he’s from a rather poor family, and he always wanted to be more than his brothers (stated in the Philosopher’s Stone book), so watching your friend get something you’re so longing to have... Harry was very good in defense against the dark arts and quidditch, the only two things he's better in than Hermione.

One of the ways that astute observers know something is wrong is how Barty Croutch Sr. looks at "Mad Eye Moody" before he is killed. His son, as we see in the flashback and later in the movie, has a signature twitch with his tongue. When "Moody" is talking to Croutch Sr., we see him do the tongue flick, something his father immediately notices and it is exactly this that not only alerts Crouch Jr. that he has given himself away, but also means that Croutch Jr has to now kill him before he can tell anyone else.
That's crazy never realised that I knew he recognised him as his son but didn't know the reason.
Voldemort wanted to be the defense against the dark arts teacher after he graduated so he could learn more dark arts. But when he was denied he cursed the position. That’s why none of them last more then a year.
It wasn’t about learning more Dark Arts. He learned plenty of that during his travels abroad before he returned to Hogwarts, and was quite possibly the most knowledgeable wizard ever on the subject. Being a teacher was more about discovering any secrets Hogwarts had left to offer him, as well as possibly influencing the next generations of wizards by teaching them and likely molding them into future supporters/followers. And then of course there was the possibility of finding potential objects to host his Horcruxes inside the castle.
• I don't know if that was clear in the movie (probably not) but unforgivable curses aren't only outlawed, but they're also very difficult to perform. Even during that first class, Moody told them if all of the students in class put their wands together and shout in unison "Avada Kedavra" at him, nothing would happen. Harry was great at doing Imperius curse later on (and resisting it - the only curse out of three you can learn to resist). That one is also the easiest one. Cruciatus and Avada are two very difficult ones, especially the death curse. Cruciatus, performed on someone long enough and/or by a powerful person, can drive mad or even kill from the pain. Avada is also damaging to the one who casts that curse as well.
In general, there are many curses that require stronger magic and lots of practice. Not every curse can be performed just because you have a wand.

• That tattoo is a Dark Mark. Only Death Eaters had it. The Death Eater mark is non-removable. Everyone who was marked will forever have it. Karkaroff was only showing Severus Snape that the mark is appearing "full" again (was showing him cause Snape has the Mark too), and both of them can feel its presence (until it's not activated/called, the mark is just like any tattoo). That was taken as a signal that Voldemort could be alive/returning as he would usually be the one to call upon his "loyal" supporters using the mark. Also, Death Eaters is the name for all people who follow Voldemort, not just support but his true followers. However, only the most trusted small circle of followers is marked by Voldemort himself. Not every Death Eater has the Dark Mark.
• Interesting morality point. If Harry wouldn't have been such a gentleman, Cedric would still be alive.
• Everyone knows that Lucius (and Malfoys in general) is a Death Eater. They just won't believe Harry that Voldemort is back or any of Death Eaters is "back in business". Not to mention, Lucius was "pardoned" by the Ministry.
P.S.: all the Death Eaters that were called by the Dark Mark to the cemetery and didn't come (excluding those who were in the Azkaban) will be hunted and killed by Voldemort. It's a suicide to NOT appear when Voldemort calls.
It isn't necessarily difficulty. You need desire. To use crucio you need to be the kind of sick person that takes joy in causing suffering. Anger isn't as effective as shown in order of the phoenix.
To use Avada Kedavra you need to desire to kill the person in front of you.
About Moody. If I recall correctly. In the books there's a moment where someone mentions he's gone absolutely crazy since he's retired as an auror. And he started attacking trash cans. Now, Barty Krouch Jr's signature magic as wizard (and other fans will definitely correct me if they disagree I think xD) is transfiguration. A hint of that is when he transforms Draco Malfoy into a ferret. So it could be deduced from that that Barty transfigurated those cans somehow. Maybe in a fight or scuffle to kidnap Moody.
(sidenote: they don't kill Moody because for polyjuice you need samples of the victim every month or so or until after a potion runs out. Which is why they keep him in the chest).

The best way to remember Harry’s age is to take the number of the book and add a 1 in front of it so for example in this one he was 14. It works until right at the end of Deathly Hallows I think.

Harry and Voldemorts wands share cores (they are both from the tail of the same phoenix) the wands will not work properly against each other but if 5he owners of the wands force the wands to do battle a very rare affect will take place. One of the wands will force the other to regurgitate spells it has performed in reverse. There are plenty more death eaters but they are in prison

I think this one is my favorite of the series, at least for the earlier ones and when i was younger!
Cedric dieing at the end was so sad and the return of Voldemort was so good.
This movie definitely stepped it up in darkness even more than the 3rd one.
Also, think about it...like the most powerful evil wizard in recent history, and he comes back. And you used to serve him. He knows your name. Knows your family. Knows where you live. If he calls, you either show up for work, or your living privileges are revoked. And your whole family is either next, or rendered past tense in front of you, with you following close behind.
Something interesting to remember : In the Chamber of Secrets movie, when Harry freed Dobby, Lucius was about to kill Harry with the "Avada Kedavra" curse.
You skipped the most emotional scene in the film when Amos was crying over Cedric.
i've watched this movie a million times and every time i see it, when his name comes out of the cup and everyone's staring at him in shock all i can think about is Harry thinking '' this shit keeps happening to me, what the fuck did you expect'' hahaha. It cracks me up every single time.
Barty crouch jr. took over moody's body in the summer before the school year. in the books i remember they mention something about the famous auror alistair moody having some trouble at his home with some garbage cans or something like that, basically it foreshadows that something went down at his house over the summer.

Fun (but rather annoying fact) every Harry Potter movie had a different director if you didn’t know, and the director of this movie didn’t even read the book because it was “too thick and long”, so although it’s my favorite movie just in aesthetics and humor, it’s honestly not the best with the lore, so I HIGHLY recommend reading the books, as they are incredibly hilarious and completely worth it.

This is my 2nd favourite behind Prison of Azkaban I would say.
Kinda extra fucked up that Moody tortures the camel spider in front of Neville...when you realize that his parents were tortured to the point of insanity by a Death Eater using the cruciatus curse, and that the Death Eater pretending to be Moody is the one who did it. He's showing him how he tortured his parents, and getting off on his reaction.

Oh another funny thing you all may not know. Tom Riddle aka Voldemort. Cursed the Dark arts teaching position, so the person in it would only last one school year.
Tom Riddle Was promised the dark art teaching position about a year after he finished at Hogwarts. But the headmaster changed and the new headmaster wouldn't honor the promise. So Tom Riddle cursed the position.
The one who played Barty Crouch Jr. is David Tennent. He also played the 10th Doctor in Doctor Who and Peter Vincent in the remake for Fright Night.
This movie (the last one just a minuscule amount too but this one and the ones afterwards more-so) kind of assumes that the viewer has read the book which is why a lot of things don't really get an explanation, like for example the reason Voldemort calls Pettigrew Wormtail is because Pettigrew IS Wormtail (as in the Wormtail that helped make the marauder's map) and that Lupin is Moony, Sirius is Padfoot and James (Harry's dad) was Prongs. They explain that in the third book and then they just skip it in the movie but then assume you already know it, and there's a MAJOR plot point in the last book that they do a piss poor job at explaining in the movie because they assume you read the book

9:23 It's explained somehow in the 5th or 6th movie I guess, but it's way better explained in the Goblet of fire book. Neville's parent have been tortured with this spell by Bellatrix Lestrange in order to locate the Potters. She tortures them for so long that they completely lost their mind, so now, they couldn't even recognize their own when they sees him.. (That's why he's been raised by his grandmother)

Since I'm late to the party and you've watched all the movies, it's safe to say that: your assumptions are always so smart! There's so many things that you guys guessed that happen later in the story.
Like the fact that you said that maybe Harry is actually IN the dream, that's exactly what happened in the 5th one. And you also talked about a connection between him and voldemort pretty early while you were watching the 1st one and you were right.

whilst in the movie during the transition scene from the Announcement of the triwizard tournament to the defense against the dark arts class Igor karakroff (barty crouch jr) enters the great hall and puts harrys name in the goblet............later on in the movie harry says you put my name in the goblet but never explain how..........but if you go back to the scene in between announcement of the tournament and the defense against the dark arts class igor karkaroff was looking shady

Fun fact if you’re interested. Even though the filmmakers bizarrely decided to make the two other schools single-gender. In the books, that’s not so. Pretty much all wizarding schools worldwide are regular co-ed just like Hogwarts is. Why in the world the filmmakers decided to make Beauxbatons an all-girls school and Durmstrang an all-boys school, is anyone’s guess. But nope! In the books, both Beaxbatons and Durmstrang have male and female students in each.

1:02 nah, its not. its my least fav harry potter movie. i dont like how they skip over the other champions fights. i mean, you’d think theyd show alot more. harry potter 4 is the biggest book of the series. i’m kinda suprised the 7th book wasnt the longest because it probably has the most story arcs in it.
You can only fit so much book into a movie that’s only a few hours long. But it does in fact keep getting darker throughout the series. Sorry it’s your least favorite, but among most fans the top 2 are PoA and GoF.
