I'm a high schooler who got my set literally the week before quarantine started and I've been incredibly grateful for these tutorials. My lessons got canceled due to Corona so I'm very happy to have found lessons that are fun and easy to follow. Thank you for making these lessons, they definitely make quarantine a little easier to bear!
Finally a fast pace tutorial for the more advanced. Im a music teacher at a Boys & Girls club so videos like this save me soo much time when working on several different songs for each student. Quick and to the point i love this format.
Thank you so much for making the time to explain these songs, I love playing drums but I am a very slow learner. You put everything in perspective for me, I'm still a slow learner but you give me hope and motivation. Love from South Africa
Dude thank you this is one of my favourite songs of all time and this was like the most helpful tutorial I’ve ever seen on UA-cam, that intro groove rocks!
i usually play the double time part only putting the hi hat with the snare. just easier for me and i really can't tell a difference. Also I only have one cymbal which i have to use as a ride and a crash so the ending chorus thing is always interesting to play
Hey there! Can you please help me out with a drum fill from the song "Dark Necessities" by the RHCP? It starts at 3:19 in the music video. I have to play this song for band and I'm struggling with this fill!!!
See if this helps out. It starts on beat 1 and is just 16ths (with a little bit of cool Chad Smith swing on them). The orchestration is: SSTS SSST SSST SSF- I think to get the cool ghost notes and smooth vibe of the fill you might want to try this sticking... RLRL LRLR LLRL RLR (it's two groups of RLRLL and one of RLRLR) I don't know if that'll help out but have a muck around with it and see if you get close. Good luck!!!
+Henri B. Yeah it’s tough because some ppl will pick it up in 5 minutes and some ppl will take a week depending on how experienced they are. I try to keep it short so you can pause and rewind as much as you need! I don’t have a third camera yet for a kick cam unfortunately - I’ll definitely keep it in mind.
Alex Spots Wood He did all he needed to do 🤷♂️ He put the sheet music so you can read it, Showed you how to do it VERY SLOW. That’s all you need just watch rewind and try to recreate it, Either way he needs to show the rest of the song. It’s your job to rewind and practice his job is to show you how to do it
I’m confused at the drum fill at 0:58 I can play it slowly and kind of fast but it doesn’t sound the same as the video and I don’t have a clue what I’m doing wrong, also does anyone know the bpm for Chop Suey? I googled and it says 127bpm but it’s definitely not because the metronome can’t keep up
Just keep practicing it until you could do it in your sleep. Then you won’t be thinking about what to hit as much and you can work out how it fits with the song. I just tried tapping in the tempo and I agree with you, it’s definitely AROUND 127bpm but it doesn’t stay right on the click. Practice until you can do it at 127bpm on your own, and then put it back with the song. Good luck!
Hey this is really helpful but I'm a completely new drummer can anyone explain to me exactly what is happening after the buildup at the beginning, I literally just came off of only snare 😅
Hola soy Daniella , oye contigo aprendo super rápido y de manera fácil los temas y eso se agradece . Podrías hacer un tutorial del tema de Elvis se se rider y del grupo the Shadows te veré en mi batería .por fis saludos cordiales
You're an Aussie, if I'm not mistake. And you haven't done tutorial on INXS nor Crowded House? That's shocking. But I appreciate all your videos. Keep it up.
Welllll, the main one is recording. Generally my mics pick up the loud hits and don't pick up the low ringing as much so the toms sound a lot cleaner. That being said though, coated heads definitely make a difference - they have a bit less attack but tend to be warmer and ring out a bit less. Then tuning, if you can match the pitch of your top head closely to the bottom head that should take out a bit of the ringing. And finally dampening - I put a bit of tape on my resonate heads (which isn't ideal but does the job) so you could muck around with that too!
+ItsLamaCraft Yeah maybe! I don't play double pedals much but I do like to keep both feet moving when I'm practicing. So as long as it's not kicks at 210bpm I might be able to help out!

Great to hear! That’s exactly what I aim for... and if you don’t catch it the first time you can always rewind and/or pause!

I’m happy to help 👍 Drums are hard and there’s no rush - just keep doing a little bit each day and you’ll get there.

How do you stop your toms from resonating after you hit it.
