    To quote a comment I often see regarding this game's soundtrack: When the 'G' falls off the graveyard sign. The entire soundtrack is full of total bops.

    First you upload Hades, that catches my eye, now NecroDancer content?! Amazing!
    Edit: If you REALLY want to rock out, put those shades back on... Run up "Crypteque". That song's inspired by Uprising, by Muse, if it gives you any hint as to how hard that song goes ;)

    Just FYI these songs don't loop, the length of the song is the amount of time you have to finish the level.

    You're pretty much right on the money about this being a rhythm game -- however, it's a bit of an unique concept in that they mixed up rhythm elements with roguelike gameplay: basically, you have to dig around the map (hence the shovel), kill enemies and traverse through the stage all to the beat of the current song before it ends (that's also why the songs don't loop).
    The entire soundtrack is incredibly good and I'm glad you already have more songs from it in the request list, but another really cool thing about this is that the entire soundtrack has 5+ different playable versions. They range from metal remixes, synthwave remixes, chiptune remixes, to EDM remixes and more, and they're genuinely all great. I'm not sure if any of those have been requested but I do hope you get to check these out as well at some point.
    And also since you've asked, Danny Baranowsky has been composing for indie games for a while! You may know him from Super Meat Boy or the original Binding of Isaac, which aside from this game are probably his best known works.

      It's a roguelike dungeon crawling rhythm game. Very interesting game, and depending on the character you play, the rules of the game change.

    Crypt of the Necrodancer is one of my all time favorite games, paired with one of my all time favorite soundtracks. Glad to see you finally checking it out! I’m especially a fan of Nicolas Daoust, the voice of the real voice shopkeeper ingame, who started out doing vocal covers of the shopkeeper’s singing parts on UA-cam, before later being brought on to do it officially for the game’s DLC (The shopkeeper sings along to every level theme in the game, btw). As for my favorite track from the game, it may be coming up as a request in the not-so-near future…

  • @Kadraxan
    @Kadraxan Рік тому +15

    I dunno if anyone else has mentioned this yet, but the songs from this game don't typically loop, as the tracks also serve as soft time limits for each level. When the music stops, you get dropped through a trap door and have to fight the boss of the floor in a confined space, which is usually more difficult than encountering them normally.

  • @Zatchi13
    @Zatchi13 Рік тому +8

    Someone else probably mentioned this already, but not only is Danny's soundtrack for the game very good, its also accompanied by like 5 other soundtracks. As a last note, there's a shopkeeper in the game that wails along with the music of every stage if you're interested in hearing that.

    Necrodancer is a videogame, akin to old rogue.. but roguelike-ish in similar ways, yet I would call it it more reogue than like... nevertheless you have to move within the beat, else you don't move.. sometimes you want to fail on purpose, but generally you want to move within the beat.

      @@NuiYabuko Wish I made a few requests for games like Gurumin and Half-Minute Hero: The Second Coming when this channel was in the early months. Now it's pretty much impossible to get songs to pop up. Either pay up a large amount or get extremely lucky in the draw every once in a while. This game has a really awesome soundtrack with tons of banger, my favorite songs are Mausoleum Mash (1-3) and A Cold Sweat\ A Hot Mess (3-3).
    The game also uses the soundtrack in cool ways, for example the shopkeepers sing to the music. Another cool feature is that world 3 is divided between hot and cold zones, and while both zones have the same melody, the music changes between electric and metal depending on which zone you are in.

    NecroDancer is one of my favorite games; as other commenters have noted it's a mashup of rhythm and roguelike dungeon crawling, and the immaculateness you picked up on in the track is (imo) present in the game's art & gameplay as well!
    The slight tone shift near the end of this track is a signal to the player that their time on the level is almost up, and is reflected in part of the UI during gameplay.
    Additional tidbit: the game has 4 zones you progress through (5 with the first dlc), each containing 3 levels. Each level within a zone has its own track (thus the 1-1 in this track's title - zone 1, level 1), and each zone's tracks are written in a different genre. On top of that, to complete each zone the player has to beat a boss chosen randomly among 4 possibilities, and (of course) each of these bosses has their own distinct track.

    @WillySnake01 Рік тому +1

    I'm so glad you've discovered this game. You should DEFINITELY watch a clip of the game to see what it's like. Without giving too much, it's a 2D adventure rogue-like rhythm game, where you do everything to the beat (yep, that beat). Some stuff you should know:
    1. Danny Baranowsky was also the composer of the Binding of Issac.
    2. ALL of the music in the game is integral to it's gameplay, since everything you do has to be to the beat. As such, aside from Bosses tracks, all songs are written and designed NOT to loop. You can listen to the song of a level to the very end, but when you do you'll "fall" to the next level. Not lose, just fall, so you can't explore that level any further.
    3. The girl you play as is called Cadence. Guess what happens at the end of the song you just heard.
    4 and final: I really hope you try and play the Crypt of the NecroDancer. Unlike most of the games you probably cover, this game isn't time consuming, in the sense you can play it once just to see what the fuss is about and check some of the levels and music. The game is hard because of the rogue-like elements and having rhythm-based gameplay, but it's very old school in the sense you can play the very first few levels, suck at it, but love it anyway and be glad you played them. It will only be time-consuming if you end up linking it and try to beat it, and even then not really "time-consuming" as, let's say, Metal Gear Rising, for example (a short game by today's standards).
    Hoping to see more songs!

    The simplest way to describe the gameplay of this game is that it's a turn-based dungeon crawler (hence the shovel, for digging through walls) where every "turn" is one beat of the music. Each enemy has a specific movement/attack pattern, which means you need to move in a specific way to attack them while avoiding their attacks, which ends up feeling a bit like dancing. This is also why the track, as you probably noticed, has the percussion generally landing hard on every single downbeat, because the player *needs* to feel the beat in order to play effectively.

    This is actually a game I've played! It's pretty fun and has the option to play your own music. It gets difficult though, anyways I'm very familiar with this song and I've heard it many times from starting over since this is the first level theme lol.
    What comes to mind when this song plays is a dance floor in a dungeon which is the setting of the level. I love the subtle chiptune sound effects placed throughout the song, just a great way to flavor a song. This has a bit of a uncertain feel while being very motivated which fits the main characters story. It's a very catchy song at points, the song emphasizes the beat for gameplay reasons so that's pretty cool. I like how it sounds a bit spooky with some of the synths which fits the dungeon and the enemies. I very much like this song, a certified bop 100%.
    I can backup your comment on word of mouth lol, I heard about the game but didn't know much about it until a friend got me to get it for the music.

Each song is the length of the stage (minus boss battles which loops), and you get booted to the next stage if you don't find the way there yourself before it ends. The base game also has multiple characters with their own remix of every stage/song by various other artists, and are worth checking out for each request if you get more! e.g. same stage, but remix ua-cam.com/video/frVd9AyqNzk/v-deo.html (Side note, the devs got a Zelda collab game on the Switch, which shows how successful it was)

      My favorite songs come from Level 3, which is half ice and half fire. So, on the one side is EDM, and the other is Metal depending on what side of the map you're on. (Note: I know EDM isn't the right term, but I don't know enough about the genre to describe what specific sub-genres there are. I'm just a smol girl.)
