3:36 "The Synth is starting to wake up" is a very fitting observation to make OOC seeing how Celeste uses the synth as leitmotif for Badeline, who awakens this chapter.
Celeste is a very interesting game, both musically and in terms of what it sets out to do as a game. It handles it's story with amazing care for as simple as it is. Most of the tracks are a reflection of the character Madeline in the cover art, and whom you control in game. The Time Rifts mentioned in AHIT are a great comparison because almost every track in game works like this. In game, this track is actually broken down into 5 parts, and depending on where you are in that point in the stage it will loop that section of the track (outside the final section). So in reality as a player, you might not hear this full track perfectly without loops like it is on the OST itself. I will say this 2nd half did cause me to die once or twice just due to jamming out to the music.
I know I'm a little late to the party but at 9:40 -ish when it starts fading, that's actually how the song transitions over several screens. I got goosebumps when I heard this playing the first time - it felt like I was escaping from a nightmare, where every step I took lessened its grip on me. By the end the song becomes very faint and indistinct, but it's a powerful way of associating what was chasing you to proximity to danger.
I was instantly a fan of Lena Raine after playing this game. She has several independent albums and has done music for a few other games as well, notably Chicory
Celeste is a phenomenal game. It’s a platformer and has some of the greatest music I’ve ever heard in any video game I’ve ever played I’d definitely recommend listening to some more Celeste. Some other really great music from the game is “Reach For The Summit” and “Farewell”
There are some games that everyone knows by the quality of the game that are surprisingly underplayed. Games like System Shock 2 and Marathon. Celeste probably isn't as underplayed as those are, its probably in hollow knight and slay the spire territory but sometimes you just know a game is quality from the routine praise it'll get
One of the great things Celeste does really well is that the music reflects on Madeline's mental state at the time, becoming fast and erratic as panic starts to set it and calmer and quiet during moments of peace.
OH MY GOD. CELESTE AT LAST!! Been a subscriber for a long time and always wished that one day you'd get to this game, in particular Scattered and Lost. Can't wait to see what you think.
In (i wanna say) the most recent Nintendo Direct as of today, there was a new IP shown called Harmony: The Fall of Reverie, and one of the ways they advertised the game during the direct was by saying that Lena Raine worked on the soundtrack when you listen to the Celeste soundtrack, you can see why
The soundtrack is so good that I was struggling to stop myself from listening to future tracks ahead of my in-game progress until I just HAD to know the context. The B-side tracks are gonna blow your mind too! Thanks for checking this out!
Celeste is a 2D platformer, where you control Madeline in her quest to climb Celeste mountain. Your tools are your Dpad, Jump, dash and grab. Sound simple, right? Well, there's more to just "climbing a mountain" as there's more to "just 3 action buttons". Following the story chapters is well within the casual player skill. The soundtrack is amazing and follow where Madeline is at the moment; location wise and mentally wise. In each stage you can find a secret zone with a rythm plataforming challange where you can find a Cassette with an alternative version of the bgm of the stage, and it includes an alternative version of the stage too! Those are remixes made by other compossers. And it's like they were required to be all bangers, because the "B-Sides" take several levels in dificulty, so you are going to listen to those tracks a lot.
This song, and consequently the level itself is what fully caught my attention while starting this game. Before I was just playing as a "just because I heard it was good". But damn, this set me straight on to the journey to the top of the mountain.
Me listening to this like "Haha he doesn't know". Celest is SO GOOD. Me expecting all the celest songs now lol. I play this ost at work all the time it's just perfect music to put in the back while working and I'm probably responsible for like 1000 of those views LOL.
This game holds an incredible place in my heart. At the time of playing it I had no idea what the story was about. And watching it unfold into this mental health centered story was breathtaking because I really needed that message at that time in my life, and even now. Video games are art man.
Couldn't help but smile when I saw this. Celeste is one of my favourite games of all time, so I knew I was in for a treat. Lena's music is absolutely amazing. Celeste is a precise pixel platforming game where you climb a mountain. It's difficult, but very fair, and has been described as "the hardest game that anyone can beat". Pretty art, beautiful music, fun gameplay... I could go on forever about how much I adore this game haha (many others are in the same boat) Farewell & Scattered and Lost are my favourite tracks from the OST, but Resurrections is definitely up there. I do hope people request more music from Celeste, because the whole soundtrack is a delight.
Celeste's soundtrack is one of the best ones out there imo. I'm glad you're finally getting the chance to check it out! If you'd like another request from it, I'd love to see you react to "In the Mirror". Definitely one of the more unique tracks on the OST, and it really nails the type of emotion that it's going for.
What I love about this song (and why it reminds me of the rift songs in A hat in time) is because it feels like you're just drifting. The song is neither here nor there but kinda moving between everywhere slowly. The many rift songs feel like they're doing the same. kinda in a "between". where? dunno. neither do they probably
Other Celeste songs you should listen to are Scattered and Lost, Anxiety, Reflection, Confronting Myself, and Reach for the Summit. This game has an amazing soundtrack, and these are the best of the bunch, in my opinion.
Speaking of finding communities. It's interesting looking at your videos page. Because I look at it and see a definite leaning towards certain genres. There are definitely many communities and styles of ost you haven't heard yet. I suppose these are the types of games the audience you've cultivated loves and wants to see you listen to. And more power to them and you tbh.
This kinda reminds me of your video "Coalescence" where it was all ambient and atmospheric and it just kept adding layers onto it as it progressed. It was wonderful, just like this
Now you've discovered Celeste I'm looking forward to to you hearing "Mirror Temple" the composer for that song (If I remember right at least) is a gentleman by the name of 2Mello who is one my favourite western composers appers...it's pretty great.
Celeste and it's music hold a special place in my heart. I hope you do farewell at some point, it's such an amazing track. Lena raine is an amazing composer. The music is able to perfectly convey the emotions of the levels.
Love that you are listening to Celeste! This game is great in terms of story, gameplay, and music especially. Would love it if you would do “scattered and lost” if you return to this ost
I... Don't cry much At all. But i've been through so much change in the past few years, and hearing this song, remembering what it means in context, and knowing how this game told me more about myself than anything else... I just couldn't stop myself
I would absolutely vouch for Celeste's OST. I hold David Wise and his work on DKC in the highest regard, and Celeste is another game whose soundtrack I hold in just as high a regard. I'd be all for it if you check out more.
Celeste has one of my favorite soundtracks in any game, scattered and lost, farewell and confronting yourself are probably my favorite songs from the whole soundtrack!
You talked about how this is one of those songs that makes you just sorta stop and take it in, whether playing the game or just listening, and honestly man? That's nearly every song in this game. Every damn song this game has is a hit, you could listen to literally any of them and you wouldn't go wrong. You need to hear the whole thing, and the B-sides, and the DLC soundtrack too, every last one of them is required listening for anyone who reacts to video game music. I've never heard an OST quite like Celeste's, the whole thing is magical.
Oh man, Celeste is my game of 2018. I can't speak highly enough about it. Its story is wonderful, and its platforming gameplay is a marvel. I think this game came out when I needed it most, if that makes sense. This particular level is amazing, and the first one I show to anyone who's never seen it to give them a real taste of how Celeste switches a platformer up.
The entire soundtrack is great. Definitely give 'Scattered and Lost' a listen. There are also the 'B Side' tracks which are remixes from guest artists and they're also really, really good.
Oh nice celeste. I remember listening to the whole ost for 2 weeks straight lol it's such a beautiful ost. Glad you like it. P.s I still listen to it til this day a few times at week while working. Lol just love the ambient and everything of this ost, its just perfect. Think also you missed thr last section of the song? Usually after the creepy ending part its more on my playlist, i could be wrong tho.
The first time I beat this game was in one sitting over 3 hours. I've beat it a few times since then and it's definitely one of my favorite games of all time. This song is immaculate.
My absolute favorite Celeste track has to be Farewell from the final level they added. It's best experienced with the context of the tracks leading up to it.
Lena Raine is a genius. Beyond The Heart, from Celeste, is one of my top favourite songs of all time. Some day you should listen to her collab with Toby Fox for Deltarune Ep 2's climax boss too.
Celeste is a 2D platformer, but not in a rompy Mario style, its a challenging but accessible platformer closer to the vein of Super Meat Boy, which I forget if it was covered on the channel, but you've definitely covered music by Super Meat Boy's composer Danny Baranowsky (of Binding of Isaac and Crypt of the Necrodancer fame). Celeste's soundtrack is incredible and it instantly made Lena one of my favorite game composers!
I found your channel about a week ago (loved watching what I've seen so far) and was wondering if anyone will request a Celeste song to you. This literally could not have been better timed.
I've listened to this ost, it's very good and this song is one of the most well known songs from the ost. I did feel like I was missing something when I went through the soundtrack though, my personal guess is I just don't have that emotional connection to the music like others do. It starts off with the creation of a cool atmosphere, the progression does remind me of Minecraft which is interesting since the composer has composed music for Minecraft. There's an ominous energy at the start which is good; I really like the chords in this song and it builds tension super well. This song progresses super well and I like the determined tension it has. I like the transition into the more reflective feel that comes right after. The part right after is probably my favorite part, the more intense bass sounds frantic. Lot's of great scales too, I think the composer is known for using a keyboard for most of their music so it makes sense. The final transition where the good feels fade out is awesome and it starts sounding very sinister which probably signifies Badeline.
Celeste deserves a full blown long video, with reaction to ALL the ost. Just do it imo. its amazing. Something you will not regret for sure. The amount of care in it, in the leitmotifs and the levels in which music is portrayed is at times mindblowing. It also achieves wonders if you take into account how powerful and dynamic the emotions are in these songs and how they directly tie into the gameplay seamlessly. Just perfection, nothing more nothing less.
oh hey its me the celeste fan sending you song names: - first steps - mirror magic (from the b-sides) - farewell (from farewell) yeah there are 3 separate ostsand 2 of them are from the original release
Can you react to "Crystal caves boss battle theme" from Donkey Kong 64? It's by Grant kirkhope who did the banjo kazooie final boss battle theme, you'll freakin enjoy it
dude.. this song low-mid diffs every other celeste song, I HAVEN'T HEARD THEM ALL im only on the hotel level i think? but like holy shit why does all music not sound like this
Song mentioned in this video
A Hat In Time - Alpine Skyline Rift (Pascal Stiefel)
ua-cam.com/video/e_fFx4YEkcY/v-deo.html
So crazy you mention this game. Just today I was in a stream with a friend playing Celeste, and someone recommending A Hat in Time to them.
This song is split across multiple section of a level. As you progress, so does the song.
So, just like the pinned comment :D
3:36 "The Synth is starting to wake up" is a very fitting observation to make OOC seeing how Celeste uses the synth as leitmotif for Badeline, who awakens this chapter.
lena raine in general is an amazing composer
yeah bro, she did the whole celeste ost and composed PIG STEP...
a legend
@gigzxd let's not forget Otherside. Honestly i like that one a LOT more than Pigstep
So excited for what she, and these devs do in the future. I can't imagine someone making a game MORE impressive than Celeste.
This song is transcendent. I love it both in and out of context of the game.
fr man, its a type of song u would just put on a study playlist and vibe out beyond being from a video game.
Toby Fox and Lena Raine actually did a music together, "Attack of the Killer Queen"!
now he worked with a vtuber (Marine) which that song is so stacked omg (Toby, Camellia, Wit Studio, Sliver Link).
@@okluminous566you can't just drop that and NOT say the name of the song bro
@@hundvd_7 ua-cam.com/video/QfGuQELt1Tk/v-deo.html
@@hundvd_7 "Dead Ma'am's Chest"
If you loved this, there’s plenty more to come from Celeste in the future for you to listen to :)
still waiting

Scattered and Lost from Céleste is a gem!
A great debut track for this game! This is a stellar OST, looking forward to more
i wholeheartedly recommend "Scattered and Lost" from this game, it's just... something else
Absolutely agree. Scattered and Lost is next-level
What I love about this song (and why it reminds me of the rift songs in A hat in time) is because it feels like you're just drifting. Other Celeste songs you should listen to are Scattered and Lost, Anxiety, Reflection, Confronting Myself, and Reach for the Summit. This game has an amazing soundtrack, and these are the best of the bunch, in my opinion.
Reach for the summit is basically a remix of all the main themes of the game
Speaking of finding communities. It's interesting looking at your videos page. Because I look at it and see a definite leaning towards certain genres. reflections is a song id recommend from the celeste ost
Can't wait for this fine man to listen to Farewell...too bad we can't do a Farewell DLC entire listen through. 😅

Just what an insane music. So much ambiance!
I really hope you'll do more Celeste eventually!
One of the greatest video game soundtracks ever. Another track you should check out is Scattered and Lost. Its exciting.
oh hey its me the celeste fan sending you song names:
- first steps
- mirror magic (from the b-sides)
- farewell (from farewell)
yeah there are 3 separate ostsand 2 of them are from the original release
The game's pretty quick and I feel like the gameplay is something you'd enjoy, probably a good one to play between major RPGs
Can you react to "Crystal caves boss battle theme" from Donkey Kong 64? It's by Grant kirkhope who did the banjo kazooie final boss battle theme, you'll freakin enjoy it
NEED to listen to Confronting Myself
Thank you again.
Ahaha welcome to the Celeste rabbithole. Once you enter, you'll never escape it >:)
>:3
Once the song starts to pick up it starts to give off 28 Days Later vibes.
It’s like Lena listened to Jesus of suburbia and said “let’s do that, but with less guitar and more piano and synth
Lena raine also made Pigstep for Minecraft.
Scattered and lost from the celeste ost would be awesome too!
you should probably check the work Lena has done for minecraft if you like the vibe of this
the celeste ost is really good id highly recommend ''confronting myself''
Celeste has few of the best drums and synths. Lot of great songs to check out.
This song reminds me of the opening theme of Android Kikaider...
Holy cow someone else who remembers that anime! Had very dramatic music indeed
MOREEEEE celestial hotel next pleaseer
Little Goth is a awesome celeste theme too
Dude, whenever you get to mirror temple B-side by 2 Mello you are going to lose it, I swear.
Hey Jesse, what's the song that's been playing in the background of this and the last few videos?
ua-cam.com/video/pBOJ49Xa8Ss/v-deo.html
Just listen to the whole sound track otherwise you would be confused.
I really wish Jesse would take a break from JRPGs to play some shorter games like Castlevania SOTN or Celeste.
Celeste's music tends to escalate as you move through a level.
dude.. this song low-mid diffs every other celeste song, I HAVEN'T HEARD THEM ALL im only on the hotel level i think? but like holy shit why does all music not sound like this
