- Santa Clara needed a late equalizer to force OT in the 2020* NCAA women's soccer championship, but the Broncos dominated the shootout, beating the top-seeded Florida State 4-1 to capture its second national championship in program history. How tf is FSU ranked that high & Santa Clara isn’t?
FSU have been crazy good for the past few years. SCU hasn’t gotten far until this year.
FSU plays in the ACC, which had 4 of the top 10 teams in the country. Santa Clara plays in the WCC, where the next highest-ranked team is BYU at 17. It's also been a while since Santa Clara was in it, while Florida State has won a few National Championships recently. And it was a short, weird season for everybody, so it was probably harder than in most years to determine who was really the best.
Besides, 11 isn't that low a ranking. If this were the NCAA tournament, the 11th-ranked team would be a 3 or maybe 4 seed.
