Watch depth ratings have no safety factor, most things like elevator need 3x safety factor or at least double. So if you dive to 100m you need 200m resistance. And 50m watches also leak after a certain amount of time too. You should never swim in 50m rated watches

Water resistant on watches is not the “safe” distance that you can go. It’s tested with a controlled, distilled water, no waves, a very short amount of time, very consistent water with a manually operated machine. So if you go swimming with it, you will splashing around in salty and wavy water which is not consistent. It’s the same when you run in a controlled environment with profesional stand and comparing it to running down a hill where there are little oxygen.
I hope that clear things up and why you need a minimum of 100m or water resistant to go swimming without getting water inside and potentially rust the movement inside which cost you hundreds to thousands to repair for a mechanical/automatic watch.

Just because it says it is WR up to 50m doesn't mean it waterproof you shouldn't even go swimming with 5 ATM watches. Reason being is the pressure in the water that builds up when swimming making it very probable that your watch will let water in and ruin the watch. Heck even cheap Casios have 100m WR 😅

If you were going to shower with a watch, I would say at least 100m. But honestly, you should take your watch off to shower so you can wash your wrist. Your arm gets sweaty under the watch band. • @Peter-tc3ep
    @Peter-tc3ep Рік тому +60

Unfortunately 50m water resistance does not mean you can dive with your watch.
“50M Water Resistance: Wearable around sinks, during swimming, athletic sports, in shallow waters, but not while snorkeling or scuba diving.
100M Water Resistance: Wearable around sinks, during swimming, poolside diving, snorkeling, but not while jet-skiing or scuba diving.”
The reason most actual dive watches are 200m water resistance or more. And a sport watch at that price point should be 100m water resistance. When I go on vacation I often will not take off my watch since hotel safes aren’t great and it’s a pain to use the front desk safe repetitively. So I’d at least like to be able to snorkel or swim in the ocean in my watch.

100m should be a minimum for people who wear it for vacation for exemple
Especially in a hotel where leaving your 5/6 figures watch can be risky, you would like to take a quick swim with it. Wether at the beach or at the pool.
50m can be enough but it’s risky as I saw many people ruining their watch this way.
100m is fine, but I would be a bit psycho about it if I do swim in the ocean
200m is great and can do anything that normal people would do, including water sports.
Too bad the speedmaster is only 50, and most of the rolex catalogue that I like are only 100
Tudor does well with their watches being on average 200m wr, if we don’t mind the chunkiness of them

  • @roderick9018

50m water rating means safe for splashes from washing hands, you can't swim in a pool with that rating. 100m rating is minimum for swimming for pressure. They are rated at static water setting. 200m and up are good for diving / water sports like water sking.

For guys who doesn't give a f about watches:
30m of WR for light rain
50m of WR is for Heavy rain
100m of WR you can barely swim
    200+ can be divers watch

AP should just rebrand as the royal oak brand. They don’t make any other watches, their entire success is based off this and nothin else
