@@GedUK I think that was a pretty tightly run ship, I don't doubt that a small ad lib happened here or there but having read the script and knowing of someone via a second party on a woman who worked on it said that they really just had to nail things very fast given the amount of time pressure they were under. Not much of prepwork was available to them, just a slightly higher budget then normal but still a tv movie budget and deadline.

The cycle is complete - we now have people saying they miss Moffat, just like with Davies.
moffat over chibnall yeah but davies over both if im honest.
Moffat did do some good creative stuff it just got stale in the end, Chibnall has been a disaster I'm afraid and I know a lot of people didn't like RTD but he really did write some great stories, I think if they want to save the show and not have another wilderness years maybe trying to coax him back would be a good idea even if it's for just 2-3 seasons and maybe bring in a big star to play the doc. But if something isn't done and done quick we are going to lose the show again or even worse the Americans may take it over and that would be a disaster.
The thing is that RTD was an incredible showrunner who really nailed the world building and character development. Moffat was a genius writer but not so great as showrunner. Chibnall is useless at both things
@@rymdalkis Chibnall's first season isn't even over yet.
@@MilkmanConspiracy 8/10 episodes have already aired, and not one of them is good, neither script wise nor from a character development or world building point of view. Unlike chibnall the prick
Moffat had his writing problems here and there but no matter what, you always got a sense of him caring for the show, the fans and the universe and lore. He built upon what rtd left for him while adding his own twist. Sometimes it didnt go quite so well, but he was really trying.

14:16 this whole interaction was so cute. David calling Matt 'young man' djhsdjd they're adorable
Say what you will about Moffet's run. He honestly did the 50th Anniversary Special right. It was grand and humble at the same time. A deserving homage to the legacy, celebrating the past and looking ahead (all 13.. whoa!).
I only wish Capaldi got better scripts out of him though. He got some great ones like Listen, and Flatline, but he was handed more duds than the rest. Feels just irritating as he was a brilliant DW and one of the most capable actors ever handed the gig, what a waste.
Mr. Sahab I totally agree but I just think he did Ten and Rose a little dirty. I know he didn’t want to interfere with RTD’s goodbye, but he could have had them be Ten/Rose from right in the middle of series 2 or TenToo and Rose and they wouldn’t have had to say goodbye to each other. I’d just have loved to see that chemistry again and them just being happy together. Otherwise, I loved it.
@David is my Doctor, I think that was the deal. Moffet wanted a total reboot after he failed to convince David to stay for another season, maybe what you're suggesting would've been a thing (most likely,) if he'd stayed so I'm not sure it's Moffet's fault. It was just what it was. Having said that, I think some goodbyes are served best, if they're left alone. A lot of people were irked by Clara's come back YET another time. It ruined a very awesome good bye between the 2. The final one was kind of meh because it was one sided and didn't really serve a purpose.
clara got a lot of meh writing toooo TT
Heaven Sent, Hell Bent, Twice Upon a Time are a few examples of great stories.
Moffatt knew how to write for Matt's doc. He didnt so much for capaldi
It was total bad ass when ALL 13! doctors showed up and they're conference calling, doing there thing...Very clever bringing in a future doctor, less we not forget there's more than just the past and present. That scene was probably my favorite of the show's followed by the Dr. Donna scene when they all help fly the tardis to put the planets back. Then my 3rd favorite scene was when rose freaked out that the Dr left her back on earth and went ahead to absorb the time vortex and went Goku on everyone.
Tbh that scene pissed me off more than anything. For the sole reason that they didn't honor Doctor Who by actually bringing in the Classic Doctors to film that scene. In my opinion the 50th anniversary wasn't the celebration of 50 years of Doctor Who, but rather Stephen Moffet's ultimate fan fiction come to life from what he has done to the show the last 10 years. The story was slapped together and he knew that the fans expected to see all the Doctors come back to the screen, so he put audio from them in to 'appease' the classic fans, but he doesn't really care about them, he just cared about the fangirls who gush over Tennant and Smith. It was a real disservice to the fans who actually grew up with show and watched it for 50 years. But that's just my opinion.
@@august7535 But some are dead and the rest are MUCH older, how could they have had all the original actors reprise their roles for that one scene? They'd have to have used digital recreations on all of them to keep what continuity there is to be had from the series since we've seen pretty much all of their regenerations, would be weird to suddenly see them much older than they ever actually looked during their cycles.
@@august7535 Yeah, let's just ask elderly and dead people to reprise their role from 20-50 years ago. That'll work well…

It’s quarantine and I’m rewatching it and sobbing... I will forever miss David and Matt’s Doctor. The best ones. The best arcs. The best scripts.
Smith, Tennant and Hurt...Basicly it's a modernized version of The Three Doctors, only Troughton is the current Doctor and Hartnell is not on a TV screen. And it features a cameo from the next Doctor (both the one coming after Smith as well as the one coming after Pertwee).
timrob12 Tom Baker wasn’t in the 3 Doctors...
I didn't say he was in The Three Doctors. I said, it's like the Three Doctors, but with a cameo from the next Doctor (both from Smith and Pertwee's perspective). So, if you compare this story to The Three Doctors, then Pertwee would've been the current Doctor and Tom followed him. So, this story (The Day of the Doctor) is like that story except THIS ONE (The Day of the Doctor) features a cameo from the next Doctor: Peter Capaldi. But it's funny 'cause Tom Baker is also in this one and he's the Doctor to follow Pertwee and he (meaning Pertwee) was in The Three Doctors, which I'm comparing this story to.
@@timrob12 It's all down to the timey-wimey thing.

timrob12 Also The Three Doctors had an actual plot and good writing, whereas Day of the Doctor was very poorly written, particularly the conclusion. This is the Time War that was so hyped up for 7 years? Pathetic.

I think Jodie Whittaker has the same problem as Capaldi though. Jodie could use some of this writing. She could probably be a great Doctor, if not for the current scripts. They totally lack the comedy and wit of this kind of script with David and Matt. It all just seems like pushing an agenda now, and if the story gets a look in, well, OK then.....
VauxhallViva1975 even then her acting has been anything but great but the script has been the huge letdown even if Jodie and Russell coexisted her performance would be the let down with that class of a script

@@Myless Yeah, i can totally understand not thinking an actor is good for the role. I was trying to place my feelings about this incarnation when my friend mentioned she seemed to be a kind of part tenant and smith in her performance.
As for the series. I think it could benefit from the production pacing of the Doctor-Donna. Meaning a thread of meta-arc story that pops up some until it gets closer to the end of the season. So the show can allow for an eposodic sense while still having a season arcing plot.

this was as near to perfect an episode as I think you could get for the 50th.....that voice of the curator at the end....chills
Moffat needs to come back. Doctor Who was at its best when he was writing.
Yeah. Him making the doctor a literal wanker and perv was the best
@@mrdr0161 how tf did he do that?
Right at the end: "It'll be exactly the same as it always has been!"
*jump to present day*
At 14:13, I started crying again. AND I just rewatched the 10th Doctors "I don't want to go." Will I ever heal?
Moffat: I think the show will be around in 50 years time...
Chibnall: Hold my beer
”I didn’t want to interfere with Russels ending with Rose”. Well, nowadays we’ve got Chibnall retconning the canon. Really excited to see Russel back though! Hopefully he can do something about Chibs mostly confusing additions.
Love seeing Smith and Tennant together. I can see they're not that different from their roles. They're not necessarily chosen because of what they can create, but also because of what they already have. But I guess that's common casting criteria right?
Smith and Tennant are born Doctors. Seeing them hugging at the beginning scared me, I thought the space-time were gonna shortcircuit and blew up...
For all the Daleks that were in Moffats era...the stories were much better. Thanks for joining my TedTalk
I grew up watching mat and David I miss them so much
Please take the time to visit the early Doctors one thorough five. There are some excellent stories such as The Darleck's Master Plan, The War Machine, Enemy of the World, and The Seeds of Death. And look for the episodes that have the first three Doctors. The Day of the Doctor is a tribute to this episode / serial.
Anyone else realize that David's last line in this episode is "I don't wanna go," which is the last line he said before he regenerated into Matt?
That was the point of him saying it
Holy shit how did you notice that subtle detail!?!?
I miss the old doctor who 😢
too bad this doctor right now is horrible an actual joke
4:52 i roared with laughter upon first airing, and still do....." oh....lovely"
If you ever see a blue box flying in the air .. call me QUICKLY....
is it just me who loves listening to the read through bits because there’s no music and it’s just completely raw and new and just bloody beautiful?
The fact that David comes back again for the 60th anniversary
The fact this was ten years ago wtf feels so recent
These were the wonderful years when Doctor Who had great writers and each episode made you sit on the edge of your seat.
Moffat’s last words make me quite sad. The show isn’t the same and it didn’t get better. It went down a path and they even rewrote the Doctors history so it would fit the storyline. At least we have the old episodes.
David and Matt look like close friends. It's so cool to see them all together.
Imagine looking out your window and see a tardis, with the doctor hanging off the tardis, being held by a crane
Matt is my favourite Doctor I hope come back one day ...
Moffet did well with the day of the doctor, really well written well acted good strong cast.
