Thank you so much for this easy and concise tutorial. I appreciate the clear video of the process and your getting right to the point (vs. giving personal history and some story about yourself). I've ordered my new sticks and look forward to a successful install.
Huuuuige thank you. I have spent a year thinking about upgrading the memory. I watched your video and went for it. So glad I did. The difference is unbelievable. From 8gb to 40gb.
Great Video , I also have a 2017 iMac I want to add memory to , thanks for making it so simple to follow along .
you are awesome. make more of these types please. also tips+apps is something i always watch out for
Thanks for the tip! I just did the same and it worked out exactly as you described. Thanks!
This was the first time I swapped out RAM and this made it SO easy!. Thank you!
Yes Tek Overclocked. Always great videos, man. Informative and positive. Thanks so much for posting!
Thank you so much for your help! Worked like a champ! :)
Thank you for the easy and precise tutorial.
Thank you so much. I thought I would just check if you could do this before I bought my iMac. Thank god I did. Saved me $1000. Cheers!
Thank you so much for informing people about Apple’s malicious overpricing on RAM. Video was super informative 🙌🏻
wow, i was going to pay an expert to do the upgrade and something told me to check youtube to have an idea of how its done and Boom.... I found this video. it made it so easy.Thank you. Love from Ghana
I just ordered these. Thanks for this video G
Excellent straight to the point video. Thank you.
Total coolness, thanks!
after reading,i did this mod. Talk about improvement:its like I bought a new iMac.So easy!!!!
Thanks Jeff always right to the point!
Really helpful. Just ordered 32gb of additional RAM. Previously upgraded my old 2009 iMac and it runs really well. Apple offered £50 GBP trade in for the old beast and it actually runs as well as the 2017 machine - use it all the time. It's such a shame that Apple are so cynical when it comes to aftermarket parts and upgrades.
I did on my 2011 iMac, and saved lot of money and process, soon I am think to get the new iMac of course will do the same ;-) thank you for showing....
Thank you for sharing this video. It was very informative.
simple and helpful video thank you.
Always Great Videos man :)
Thanks for watching.
I just did this today on 10-18-23, I payed 70 dollars for the same Vengeance RAM on Amazon, after installation on my 2017 iMac it didn't boot up, I followed a Reddit , which explained to pull out the old ram and place the new ram in the OLD RAM's slot and vice versa. My IMAC booted up after 30 seconds of holding the power button.
I am having the same issue. I tried about 3 different configurations, none worked. I gave up. I may try again later and just hold the power button down
great stuff! definitley very very helpful! thank you!
Great tutorial and advice. Thank you.
I did this upgrade years ago and my computer worked fine until the new 12.0 OS update. A bunch of Kernel panic issues and such that pointed to the RAM as the problem. After discussing this issue with Apple's Genius Bar and store manager, I was led down the road of crucial RAM instead of Vengeance. They apparently are more reliable, and more compatible with Mac's. Also, was told to never mix and match Gigs. If you upgrade to 16 or 8, just remove stock Apple 4 gigs. That can result in further complications.
YES, same here. I had problems with the 12.0 update, went to Apple, and they recommended checking out crucial. I was using Timetech at the time I had the issue.
Hi did it work? Having this problem rn with my 16gb kingston , removed the original 8 4-4 from my 2017 imac
I hwd the same problem with crucial too.. unfortunately
Thank you. This saved me a lot of money
I completed the upgrade. Spit on video and many thanks!!
You are a lifesaver my friend. This video is priceless! I bought the same exact product and put it in the same exact computer. Works like a charm
hey, have, since then, have you had any issues with it being two different sizes in memory?
Good video mate, very informative. This saved me $$
Remarkably lucid. And useful. Very once very happy to use the affiliate link.
Thanks man, what a great video!
Amazingly clear and pleasant.
Thanks for the easy to follow video. Any others for easy upgrades?
Thank you so much brother, it help me a lot, God bless you 🙏🏼🙏🏼
So your imac 27 "where you installed the memory is the first option of this version of imac, memory to up 32gb? becouse the second and the third options is to 64gb memory?
So helpful, thank you!
Thank you for sharing your process! Successfully upgraded from 8 to an additional 32 for a total of 40 without incident! 😊 (Crucial instead of Vengeance, but still works fine!)
Thanks so much. Ordered mine to upgrade imac memory.
I would be inclined to install four identical sticks (same size, speed, etc) in order to give the memory system the best opportunity for four-way interleaving. Faced with mixed sizes (or types) it might decide to only do two-way and give up half the potential bandwidth of four-way. This is something that's configured deep in the firmware, so not something you can easily look up or test. But for the cost of a couple more memory sticks, why not just do it.
Easy boost to my 27" best friend. Thanks for a great video.
Thank you! Well done video!
Thank you for this video. Upgraded my ram and now faster!
Very informative, thank you
I was looking at your computer screen @2:20 and it noted that Bank 0 had a mismatch which means also bank 1 is a mismatch. I thought they were to be put in together in pairs. Can you let me know if your configuration is correct or the way I did it in pair, as my directions said to do. Thanks!
Great video, it was how to get that cover off that fazed me and I certainly didn’t want to try prying it off. It’s incredibly easy to update the ram, easier than my windows laptop, it’s a pity it’s the only thing we can upgrade ourselves.
Great tutorial! Huge help in minimal time, but please add in (either verbal, or a FYI text note) about the 30 seconds of nothing when booting for the first time after installation! Still very helpful, thanks a ton!
Great information, thanks.
Thank you, Jeff! Clear, to the point, instructional content - much appreciated and good lookin' out on the savings comparison - Geez Louise!
Great help, thanks!
It's so easy to upgrade RAM in this machine that I almost feel guilty. Totally different from the 21-inch model, and much different from the surgery I used to have to do on my Mac-mini.
Thank you very much Jeff!!
Hello! What happens if I just add a 16 GB module? Would it work or is it mandatory to use the 4 slots?
Great advise. I was just about to upgrade while purchasing the new Imac today. Does this avoid the warranty and also do I upgrade it before Its first set up or it doesn’t matter when I upgrade it
Just followed your advice to save $$ I bought a Crucial 32GB kit (2x16GB) from Amazon (Crucial 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin for Mac - CT2K16G4S24AM)for $289 on Amazon. Followed your step by step instructions, and it took maybe a total of 3 minutes to install. Reboot of my 2017 iMac 5k 3.8GHz i5 was uneventful, and quick. Now confirmed running 40 GB. What a great hack !! Thank you so much !!
Awesome!
Mark St.Pierre Hi Mark, is your iMac 27” 4K. Mine is iMac 27” mid 2017, would the kit you bought work for me? Thanks.
very helpful, thank you
I just bought 2x16Go ram DDR4 for my iMac 2017 is it possible to change 2x4go that are the original ones to another 2x16Go ram?
so it is possible to configure up to 64GB on the 3.4GHz iMac?
Thanks a lot. it helps
Will those memory cards work with previous years models? Great video, thanks!
hi, I bought the mid level (3.8Ghz, 8GB GPU, 2TB Fusion) imac and find it to be very sluggish display-wise. Boots and loads apps fast, but the window movement and resizing is super sluggish, feels like if I were connected via remote desktop. Would increasing the RAM solve this in any way?
Thank you. My iMac and memory arrived today!
so it's work ? and can i do it on my mac 21.5 2019 ?
Great! I have a 2015 model IMac with a 27 inch screen. Would the same memory card also work for me? Thank you!
Hi.
Ok so you can keep the regular ram that came with the Mac and just add additional?
Thanks for the video! Man, apple prices are so high for no reason! I didn't know the installing was so easy too!
great vid thx!
Hi, can I safely take out my old RAM and put the new ones in without an anti-static wristband?
Does it fly when using video editing software? How do you find the fusion drive for editing videos? The entry level option straight off the bat in UK only allows max of 32gb even without ordering to spec however yours offers up to 64gb like the mid level option. The US always gets the best deals.
With Mojave not supporting our mid-2010 (i7/32GB RAM) iMac, I'll probably have to buy a new one... Given some models of iMac had soldered on RAM, I'm happy to see they reverted that decision.
Hello! quick question. do you know if the new iMacs have this function to change the ram or do i have to remove the screen to upgrade the ram for new iMacs? Thanks
Great video. It says the SODIMM is 'Notebook RAM'. I take it that you can still install in iMac without issues?
Hey great video, am just wondering if you can upgrade the memory for 8g Mac which is old about 10 years can I do this and upgrade it to 32 thanks 🙏🏼
I want to buy the same memory, the amazon link in the description has another product description about the ram, now it says (notebook), it´s not the same that it shows in the video, it´s safe to buy it anyway? please help
Kinda late to the party but, does it matter if we use all 4 slots or just two but increase the capacity of each stick of ram? thanks
hi mate. great video and looks super easy to do. I have a question getting my 1st 27" and it is with 8gh ram so I will be upgrading. RAMs in Australia are about 2x the us price. for $250 i get 1x 16gb module. Can i add only 1 extra 16gb module (total of 24gb) and later get another one? like running 3 ram slots for some time?
i have the base 2017 27" model, i will upgrade the ram to 32gb, can you put quad channel ram or only dual???
If you can is it better to get two 16gb ram, or 4 8gb ram ????
Hello, I want to know if this upgrade works also for the iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015). Thank you.
is it possible to remove the 2x4gb ram installed?
dang its up $100 right now its $359, I just bought it though so far so good. Do you recommend upgrading the other factories to 16gb each as well? i do a lot of drone video editing but nothing much more than that
I see this videos 5 years old. Looking at a 2017 for sale on FB. Wondering if I could still do this today ? Thanks
Does the order matter? The 4GB first or the 16GB first?
hi! thanks for the vid! will upgrading RAM on my won void my Apple Care warranty?
so besides inserting them in the back, do I have to do anything else? Also if I replace the current ones with 16gb will that mess anything up?
hey, i want to add to my 27 inch imac 2017 i7 processor - 8 GB , for a total of 16GB , should i buy one single memory card of 8GB or 2x4GB? is there something better than the other? and what memory do you recommend? thank you for your help!!!
hey jeff do a review for the base model+ssd: general benchmarks, UI performance, NOISE ect... since the higher specs iMacs are experiencing thermal and noise issues!
My question is whether we remove the two 4gb ram which are already placed do we have to do something after we turn it on?
Is there anyway to upgrade the storage? I want 500GB SSD and another HDD.
is it true that when you have two different sizes like this, it can actual have an adverse effect where it slows it down, and possibly cause kernel issues. ?
So, are all 21" versions without that ram cover & all 27" versions with the ram cover?
I am about to get the new 27" any ideas of real world difference between the 3 27" iMacs?
Hey! Great tutorial, did it yesterday. Feels way faster, but yeah got the panic kernel problem after using it for two hours it justs restarts for no reason. What can I do? Got two kingston memories of 8 gb each of 2400 for my imac2017 27 ich and removed borh of the original 4 gb memory
I just did this but only one upgraded stick worked. When I put the second stick in it doesn’t boot up. What should I do?
THANK YOU!
Also, does it matter which slot you install it on?
so even though the Apple co. only "supports" 32gb RAM total on the base iMac 27", and I have 2 slots with 8gb each -- is it ok to add 16gb RAM to each of the 3rd and 4th empty slots, or am I restricted to only adding 8gb to each empty slot?
Is it possble to upgrade this basic model to 64gb RAM ?
what if we put corsair 2666mhz instead of 2400mhz? is it compatible? thanks!
You guys should make a video for the new Mac Mini (2018)!
Wait, I’m slightly confused here. My iMac shows that it has a total 4 slots for four 4gb ram. Am I able to put a higher GB ram in those slots? Like instead of 4GB ram can I insert 8GB rams into all ports and it’ll work? Or can it not exceed the 4gb in each slot?
So if I purchased 2666 MHz ram would the ram not work or would it just lower the speed? Thanks
