  • This is a tribute to a longtime friend Paul Imeson from Renfrew Ont., who passed away December 14-2022. Paul and I played in a duo, called Imeson and St. Michael in the late 80-early 90''s. Once, when driving to an out-of-town gig we had a spirited discussion, so to speak. We discussed a lot of things, but this time we talked about God. Paul was not so religious, and I was raised Christian. I told him at times when your backs against the wall you'll need to believe in something bigger than yourself. I'm not sure that I convinced him..lol. I wrote this song in the "spirit" of that drive, and our discussion. I will miss you brother!

A river of tears has flowed, since you passed
We all hung our heads as well, raised a glass
You left this ol’ world as we reached out for you
Couldn’t believe… the news to be true,
    It couldn’t be you… no… it couldn’t be you
I feel your spirit no matter where I am
Whenever I play, you’re a part of that jam
Just remember when I die, whenever that will be
Wherever you’re playing, save a seat for me
I checked out the local music scene around my hometown
Heard a couple of guys playing, so I decided to stick around
One guy started singing Winnie the Pooh
I guess he was ok, but he sure wasn’t you
    He wasn’t you, no…he wasn’t you
I feel your spirit no matter where I am
Whenever I play, you’re a part of that jam
Just remember when I die, whenever that will be
Wherever you’re playing, save a seat for me
I remember our first gig playing down at Patty’s Pub
You took the 1st song coz I was as nervous as a pup
Man, it was the best of times playing all those tunes
I still have a hard time accepting the news
It can’t be true … no… why you?
I’ll see you on the other side, we’ll meet up once again
Coz one day I’ll make my way to see you my old friend
And when my time comes to go, and your name’s on that marquis
Gonna be sitting in the front row, in that seat you saved for me
I feel your spirit no matter where I am
Whenever I play, you’re a part of that jam
So remember when I die, whenever that will be
Wherever you’re playing, save a seat for me
    Save a seat for me

I'm sending you the photo I asked my husband to take while I listened to your song for a second time, this time with Mike so he could hear it with me. Right at that moment, a red cardinal hopped onto the tree beside our living room window, clear as day, as I had tears running down my face again.
In memory of your friend. ❤️
