Glad to see I’m not the only one that has to reset grab handles etc 3-4 times.
ya man it took me ages to get them to sit right lol
One cool trick you can do is either take the end of a paint brush or a hardened q tip and push in the areas of the deck screens that are not on the braces. If you look at pictures of real panthers, it's something that is obvious, but people tend to forget, super easy, and adds a touch of realism.
nice tip! I was considering adding damage to the grilles but wasn't use how much of it would be seen as the surviving photos of 126 has the engine deck covered in rubble, but I may well add it yet
Gotta love these Panther builds. I'm a firm believer that a military modeler can ever build too many Panthers.
I feel the same regarding the Sherman but no doubt several more Panthers will make into my collection soon!
Couldn't agree more! The panther is my favorite tank to build.
Absolutely brilliant suggestion about the Friulmodel tracks. Previous armour model I completed I drilled out all the holes in the links. When I watched this video, it was a case of sitting there in disbelief! So I tried your technique, and it worked a treat. No drill in sight. Completed a good run of track in about 45 minutes. Liked and subbed.
that's awesome! great to hear that it worked well for you too! also welcome to the channel!
@@longlance67 Thank you Shane. Cheers from Melbourne!
Nice build Shane 👍
thanks mate!
Awesome detail keep up the good work my friend
Thanks mate, this was quite the journey and probarly the most detail I have scrammed into a project, though I have Shermans in the works that I have been super-detailing too, so hopefully they too will make an appearance on the channel at some point
Only now im seeing this, I have to say this is prob one of your best builds, its so good im looking at getting a Panther now :D
thank you! This one of the most extensive builds I think I've ever done and its great to see that you guys are enjoying it as much as I! Oh man you can't go wrong with a Panther, and you got lots of great kits to choose from out there!
@@longlance67 My best build ever was a Panther A by Dragon that too had lots of add ons,
I bough the Takom Panther G with interior €60 for a kit with interior is bargain :D
I will get to that after the RFM Sherman with interior lol
I have found standard staples work really well for assembling metal tracks. Bend one vertical side of the U down, push in. Clip all the 90 degree sides in groups. Staples have this glue that holds them in their long bunches. Dump a stick in some in some acetone and it cleans them up really nicely.
The staples are a perfect length for the Panther tracks.
cool tip! thanks for sharing!
Very fine build. Enjoyable video
thanks mate! glad you enjoyed it !
Nice panther 🙂 !
Thanks 😁
Taking time and patience to get the details right 👌👌👍👍
And a lovely armor texture
thanks mate! going that extra mile really brought a lot of fun to this build!
Its all coming together nicely love all the pe work you have done it certainly enhanced the kit
thanks Greg! the etch was a challenge but I am happy I pushed myself to try it as I learned a lot on this build!
Must be my birthday, three of my favorite channels dropping not only videos all on the same day, but all with awesome looking German Armor.
*Cancels plans for evening*
hahaha thanks mate! I just finished watching Martin's and Evan's videos just now! they are doing unreal work!
@@longlance67 Those guys make me feel like I am finger painting in a kindergarten class
@@TheModelGuy ya me too lol
Very nice work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome build Shane!! I picked up a Tamiya Panther G kit couple of months ago that came with PE sets and a metal barrel at no extra cost.. Not a big fan of PE (except the screens are nice) but after watching this part I will visit the kit and its extra goodies again!!
thanks! The Tami Panther is great base considering its age! I'm normally not very comfortable with PE either and tended to avoid using it as much as I could, but after this build I far more comfortable with it, so I would recommend anyone giving it a go!
Well done sir...
thank you!
I look forward to seeing it all painted up👍
hopefully part5 wont be so long in the making!
Really enjoying watching this build. Superb work. Can't wait to see the next vid. That's a top tip about the Humbrol Maskol!
cheers mate!
I'm way too late for part 4, but it was definitely worth watching. Great video my friend. Being an essential worker, (please hold your applause😄), I'm not able to get too much time at the bench, but I'm starting to gather stuff for my own little project we talked about once and you and Michael inspired me to get it going by watching your videos.
you and me both mate, I'm also getting tied down at work a lot too due to this madness but I make it a mission to get to the bench a little every few day to try to unwind a bit
cheers mate!
@@longlance67 ....stay safe out there

top job shane
thank Kev!
Finally got to watching this. Looking good Shane. Hard work paying off. 😁
cheers mate glad you enjoyed it
Superb work Shane. Enjoyed the tutorial immensely.
thanks very much mate! glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic. I watch all your stuff since subscribing. I find your videos to to very useful and "Honest" as you build or paint. I have watched the panther build so far as I have the Tamiya Panther kit on the shelf. I hadn't considered any of the details you have carefully thought through although I did buy the same metal track coincidentally. I've never used any photo Etch !! I am certainly now going to give this kit all the attention to detail that you have with yours in order that i can also improve techniques and get a much better end result. Thanks for sharing your work - Great stuff
awesome! very glad that my build has encouraged you on your own Panther build! it is a great base kit and you can great result out of with a little TLC
have fun with Panther adventure!
What an enjoyable watch! Brilliant build, cant wait to see the next parts
thanks! hope to get painting this bad boy soon!
Fantastic!!
thank you Alex!
Awesome work ! :)
cheers mate!
Looks great Shane! Great job on all the etch... that's a lot of work. Stay safe and healthy my friend!
Thanks Scott! it was a learning experience working on the etch but I think it will greatly help me out in later builds.
We are holding our own here in Ireland with the virus though I am work with the public we are all doing a bit to beat this!
Hope you and yours are all doing ok over your side mate!
If you stop learning... you're probably dead! LOL! Learning to deal with etch is a great skill to have and certainly makes the builds a lot more enjoyable.
Yes, we're doing ok over here so far. I'm the only one still working right now but that could end any time I'm sure. It's a crazy time my friend! Keep safe and healthy. Cheers!
Fantastic build Shane, very well done.
thanks mate!
Super job, Shane and hats off to you for such an epic build. Your patience and attention to detail is amazing and that's resulted in an excellent model......will be looking forward to the next phases of this build and the diorama to follow. I really like your thinking around adding texture to the armour even though it's already part of the kit....great enhancement which I will be adding to my repertoire when building armour. Thank you!
thanks Robert for the kind words and support! I would really recommend giving those texture effects a go they are lot of fun to do, and give a great extra touch to our armor.
looking forward getting some paint on this kitty soon!
that is actually a really good idea to use liquid mask as a temporary glue.
Agreed... I'll have to keep that in mind
its a bit more fast drying than using PVA/White Glue and it surprisingly tough in its hold
Looks great! All that research and help really paid off with this build!
Well done sir!👍👍
Stay well and stay safe!
thanks mate! it really was a great experience to work on this build!
Looking awesome Shane. Cant wait to see the paint job!!!
thanks mate! I just need to figure out in what order in which to paint her up, either hairspray method to expose the damage or paint it in after the camo need to decide on this and we are good to go
Hello mate, firstly thank you very much for the mention, really no need but thank you. Our community is on the whole fantastic just the odd wholly as I'm sure you know ( cough cough below) but usually great. People are never happy with us giving up our time to film videos and folks like yourself that film their videos so well and professionally you can see the amount of time and effort that goes in but some folks are never happy. Anyway it's really coming along mate, I've had a few things over the years sent to me and it's a true honour. If you ever need anything mate, it's there for you. Like I say to coen, Ev, chalky white, etc etc I'll forever be in your debt for all the help and advice and tips etc I've got from your videos. Anyway, looking forward to the next update buddy. Its really starting to look Brill. I have the abteilung 502 panther book that I bought some years back and is expensive so I got it as its my favourite ever vehicle but if you need any pics or info let me know I'll have a gander and send you the info or pics etc. Please stay safe mate and hope your family are all safe and sound during this awful time. Thank you again for the shout out. I better get cracking on my next video then. Ha ha ha
Top man 🥇
again thanks very much for your generosity it was a tremendous help! And yes we really do have a fantastic community as a whole with some great and knowledgeable people in it!
and thankfully all my people are doing well all considered, hope yours are all doing ok too
Hi mate, yes thank you, we are OK. I had a text message on the first sort of Monday evening our good ode Boris put us in lock down saying I was vulnerable and very high risk because of my past cancer and my current cancer. I'm OK just going on a walk first thing around 0545hrs with my choccy lab, Charlie, there's know one around then so I'm pretty safe plus my house backs onto some fields and an old unused railway line that is steeped with history. We are pretty lucky. I've always got up early since my military days plus my body normally wakes me and needs its next pain relief anytime between 0315 - 0400hrs so it's a coffee, UA-cam and some war documentary on the tv in the background with UA-cam on me tablet lol whilst meds kick in. We live 3 miles away from the famous Alton Towers and this time of year its normally packed with cars driving through my market town where we live, Cheadle to get to Alton Towers but it's literally dead. Please stay safe matey
Shane that looks just incredible!!!!
I really love the idea of using the mask to tack the wheels in place temporarily for aftermarket tracks.
That's a great idea, I will remember that for my next Armor project!!!!
Looks great Shane!!!!
Appreciate your work and build
Great video !!!
Panther looks amazing!!!!
thanks Don! really glad you enjoyed it mate!
Good job on the Panther mate. I always apply liquid putty to my tank builds , gives it that extra detail. Am really looking forward to the paint job on this. Brilliant video. Stay safe .
thanks mate, hope your keeping safe in these trying times!
Looks great sir!! Loved the video! Watching you fiddle with the PE helped me so keep those shots up!
The day I saw a judge with a flashlight looking through a vision port with a magnifying glass to see if a turret interior was detailed was the day I decided to never enter a contest lol. I build for fun, so I agree with ya there Shane, insane what some of them do.
thanks mate! Ya I've had some bad experiences at competitions with that kind of carry on and judges that were very rude and dismissive of younger modelers(I was 17 at the time) so I've never bothered with the competitive side of the hobby since
@@longlance67 it's unfortunate since it keeps people away from a fairly small hobby
Good to see a vid from you Shane.
Build is shaping up nicely mate
Thanks Mark! I don't get to upload as much as I would like, but I am always working on stuff in the background ;)
Great work as always, Shane, the Panther is going on nicely. Really like how you showed that old Tamiya Panther is still a good model and with some PE parts and metal barrel can be built into a very nice model. Thanks for sharing the video, can't wait for the next part.
thanks mate! I've felt that Tamiya kits are such amazing base kits for aftermarket goodness as they go together so well, and there's so many detail sets out there for their kits, would recommend anyone giving detailing project a go with a Tami kit as you can learn so much as I did and have a blast doing it too!
Very nice
thanks my friend!
Awesome job, impressive details!
thank you glad you liked it!
Another great video .....never used friul tracks tracks as I thought they were hard work...after seeing you use them I have to try them.
cheers Andy! they are not that bad to work with! and well worth trying out as the results you get from them are awesome!
A bit fiddly there Shane but you have a lot of patience and the results speak for themselves - great result! 👍 Cant wait for the painting/weathering!
thanks mate! I am really looking forward to painting this bad kitty up!
Like I said before I wish you wouldn't show me all this lol beautiful details again Shane love it take care my friend 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏✌️🐑😁😂
thanks mate! glad you enjoyed it!
Just a small tip, rubber contact cement does the same thing as the mask at a fraction of the price.
great tip there! thank you!
The turret poison panels are on backwards the two hole are on the top front and there one mia on the side of turret. If your going crazy for details there are two small wingnuts in the holes =)
cheers for the headsup!
I both love and hate Friul tracks. Sometimes they're the only option though if you want to build some broken/split or damaged track, or want to replace the rubber bands in some of the older kits.
I think this is looking stunning right now; almost seems like a shame to have to paint it and cover up all that work.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it though; great vid, thanks for sharing.
they can a bit fiddly alright, and can damage finer details on your model if let a run of tracks smack your model while fitting them, but they really do add a lot to the overall appearance of a tank!
the next big thing to decide on for the build is figure out how I am gonna recreate the burn and battle damage to the paint when we get down to painting!
Teriffic work - must get back to mine, been 3 mths since I worked on it.
cheers mate! It took about the same amount of work to get this kit to this stage
I would recommend you use Tamiya Extra Thin instead of Revell. A bottle of Tamiya will last you ages unlike Revell and the glue is superior in every way possible.
I use both depending on the job, both have their uses and advantages
I use both depending on the job, both have their uses and advantages
Ótimo trabalho!!!
thank you!
Top!!!💙
brawo!
thank you!
instead of wire I use staples for friul tracks for my model tanks
good bit of advice there, thanks!
@@longlance67 you are welcome
Great video as always mate, you have however given me a bit of a dilemma, I'm not sure whether to go for the P. E. zimmerit or not.
I have the barrel and and P. E. Detail up kit already but I'm not sure how difficult the zimmerit would be for a beginner It's for a tamiya panther ausf A.
With your kit looking so good it's a difficult decision
the main thing to bear in mind when starting out with adding extras to a model is work with what your comfortable with and go from there so don't feel stressed or pressured to tackle something in a build, though from what I've seen resin Zim sets from Atak seem like the most easy option for Zim just get your hands a slow setting CA glue to give yourself plenty of time to work with it!
@@longlance67 cheers mate I'll take a look at it and thank you for the advice it's much appreciated
you should use an Eduard kit on it I find they transform Tamiya kits into something special
I used three Eduard sets in this project
@@longlance67 oh sorry didnt realise, havent watched the other parts. looks very nice esp. the turret surface
I'm finding that more and more of my tank tracks are falling apart due to the climate I live in .
All but a few are vinyl that came with the kits .
The utmost of this problem is my 1 / 35''th scale R / C tanks with vinyl tracks and they are :
1 Tiger 1 Henchail ( s ? )
1 King Tiger Henchail (s ? )
1 Panzer 4 H
2 Shermans
The two Tigers I've had for over 20 years and the other three I've had for over 10 years .
I've tried several times calling my Hobby supplier with no luck , their response was always to use small staples in a X pattern .
As any experienced modeler knows that .
But they always ask the same question " who did you get them from and ask them " .
My response is " I got them from you guys " .
This always happens , although I've seen replacement track in their catalogs but they tell me that they were or are having problems with the suppliers .
Would you or anyone else know if these " Link and Pin " will hold together ???
I would like to know before I spend the money and then find out that they don't work .
I find it easier to use staples instead of wire on gluing
Adam Mann has corrected me on this detail regarding the cast Tiger cupola and the same goes for the Panther. The periscope covers are made from bent steel sheet and had no texture.
cheers for the headsup
@@longlance67 You're welcome.
Liked and subscribed i really enjoyed yout video great job and can you tell me where you bought the kit
I got my kit from a local hobby shop, this is a very common model kit so you can get pretty easily online
@@longlance67 oh thank you so much

G'day Shane, part 4, 3 months ago, whats the status on this now? I'm currently building this model now. I want to build a diorama from photos of the 11 Panzer Division at Arracourt
yes the plastic tracks arent the best and will get chucked in the bin. Keen on getting metal..so expensive @ $60.00 AUD - this build going to cost me a bomb! lol
I am not rushing this build as its complex and I want to do it right, but since you insist to its status I am of writing this, am currently priming and pre-shading the model for its camo scheme and burn damage effects
Metal tracks very pricey but they do really add to end result!
I'm not saying this to be hypercritical as I think you are doing a tremendous job - so please don't take it that way. But I get the sense that you are trying to accomplish some level of authenticity/accuracy here. I think you've gone way too far in underscaling the cupola "railing". Looking at pictures I would estimate it to be around an inch thick (probably ~20-25mm). In the end, all that matters is what looks good to you. (And it's probably all moot at this point since I'm 3 months late to the party. LOL)
its the catch 22 of trying to get the MG rail on the cupola to have a more scale appearance as the plastic part is much much too thick though it might be so that the etched part may be too thin, mind you I haven't done scale conversion to see how thick the etch is in scale which would be interesting to see.
But as it stands I feel the etch replacement is far better than the plastic so I continue the build with it :)
Nicw work, but I think the kit MG rail is to scale unlike the PE part which is too thin
I think the PE is too thin as well, but the plastic was too thick to my eye so I went for the PE in the end
