HARDCORE NUZLOCKE RULES:
1. If a Pokémon faints, it is considered "dead" and must be boxed.
2. Can only catch the first Pokémon in each area.
3. Nickname every Pokémon to create emotional tension.
4. Species Clause: Only one of each evolutionary line.
5. Set battle mode.
6. No items in battle, minus held items.
7. No overleveling above the ace of the Gym Leader or Elite Four members.

I'm going to be that guy😢. After some tests it has been proven that challenge mode is actually easier than normal mode. Because the Ai only has increased levels and not stats.
Even if only the level increases, keep the damage rounding thresholds in mind. Which are based on your level. Every level that ends with a 0, 3, 5 or 8 is at a damage rounding threshold. Meaning that lets say you are level 12, and your opponent is level 13 and you have the exact same stats, they will still deal more damage to you.
He said at the beginning that he's using normal mode level caps...
Not really cuz I'm pretty sure they have better ai and actual good held items
