Videos and pics do show Mel in early January '97, performing in TV shows/photoshoots while still sporting chestnut hair. A true gem of a girl regardless, of course.
One of the things I liked about the Spice Girls was that you could recognise their individual voices, even though were five of them. Songs like this seems to be designed to help with that process

I remember in primary school, we had a school talent show concert thing, so me and my best friends sang this. It wasn't even our favourite song, I just had it stuck in my head and thought it would be a good idea. Listening to this is so nostalgic and looking back we were so happy for doing it. Our music teacher was hyping us up like we were a famous band. The only reason I'm back here is bc my best friend who I sung this with sent me this in the middle of the night. Mel C flew under the radar when I was a teenager, I had the biggest crush on Victoria back then… but as an adult I realize that they probably gave Mel C the “sporty” roll because she is arguably the most naturally beautiful. Since she was clearly the strongest singer, if she was also the prettiest it would pull to much attention away from the rest of the group. This video is a good example of what I mean, when she is wearing a dress with her hair down and more makeup, she’s stunning 😍
Heard this for the very first time because of Derry Girls. This pop song is honestly underrated and ahead of its time. Sonically, this fits the era of dance pop songs this century and still sounds fresh.

The only SG song still on my playlists. This song just absolutely cranks and is highly underrated and hugely underplayed. It's also one of the few songs of theirs that doesnt sound "90's-ish." Between the horns and guitar sounds, it could easily have been written during the 70s dance pop era with the likes of Earth, Wind & Fire or ABBA. Just an outstanding track!

It's such a good thing to see how much fun they had while making the video. It's not like today, where every move is just one more frame to be super sexy and unreachable.. In nearly all of their videos you can see them truly smiling. That's not just rare today, but impossible! Today every second has to be on top and not one small inch away from the choreography.. Sad! Nothing but sad.. And the music has no soul anymore.. Look a the spice girls! No auto tune, no weird effects over their voices, just them and a good microphone plus exelent mastering! And yeah, it's pop, but it's pop with a heart! I don't like pop, but there are a few exceptions and the spice girls are one of them!
At least for me, when i watch the MVs of my favorite artists back then, i like watching them like this, i think any music artists of those times will at least have one MV that they are just being themselves. It makes them human in our eyes, there are no social media back then so we only see them in news and MTV. I cannot say much about the MVs of today because i have no idea, i'm stuck with early 2000 music backward.
@@aed2318 The very first version of Autotune came out in September 1997, about the same time as Spiceworld, which was probably recorded starting in late 1996. I just don't think so. Lots and lots of punch-ins, that's how you fixed flat notes back then.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I wish Mel C and Jay Kay had collaborated on a good tune at the very height of their career. I have been a fan of Jamiroquai since 1994 when I was first stationed in Europe, which was how I was introduced to his music, but they weren’t known in the US. When I came back to the States(Hawai’i was my next duty station) that’s when Jamiroquai’s third album TRAVELING WITHOUT MOVING came out and the music video of “Virtual Insanity” was played on MTV and that’s when the US noticed Jamiroquai. That’s right around the time the Spice Girls came with their hit “Wannabe”, and also the Seventies sound kinda came back with that disco-esque style. So I really do think that was a missed opportunity for both Jay Kay and Mel C to have worked together on something, perhaps on a soundtrack to a movie, or something. And I believe it would have been a great hit, too.

I’m just baffled by the fact that nobody in their respective camp-during that time-ever thought about getting those two together and record a duet and perhaps really make a great recording session and track. I have to admit I wasnt a fan of Spice Girls when they first came out. I downloaded their album a few years ago and I love and csnt stop listening to it. I love how funky and disco like the songs are. I love Jamiroquai I can see Jamiroquai making some of their songs and working with Spice Girls.

The only SG song still on my playlists. This song just absolutely cranks and is highly underrated and hugely underplayed. It's also one of the few songs of theirs that doesnt sound "90's-ish." Between the horns and guitar sounds, it could easily have been written during the 70s dance pop era with the likes of Earth, Wind & Fire or ABBA. Just an outstanding track!

It's such a good thing to see how much fun they had while making the video. It's not like today, where every move is just one more frame to be super sexy and unreachable.. In nearly all of their videos you can see them truly smiling. That's not just rare today, but impossible! Today every second has to be on top and not one small inch away from the choreography.. Sad! Nothing but sad.. And the music has no soul anymore.. Look a the spice girls! No auto tune, no weird effects over their voices, just them and a good microphone plus exelent mastering! And yeah, it's pop, but it's pop with a heart! I don't like pop, but there are a few exceptions and the spice girls are one of them!

At least for me, when i watch the MVs of my favorite artists back then, i like watching them like this, i think any music artists of those times will at least have one MV that they are just being themselves. It makes them human in our eyes, there are no social media back then so we only see them in news and MTV. I cannot say much about the MVs of today because i have no idea, i'm stuck with early 2000 music backward.

@@aed2318 The very first version of Autotune came out in September 1997, about the same time as Spiceworld, which was probably recorded starting in late 1996. I just don't think so. Lots and lots of punch-ins, that's how you fixed flat notes back then.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I wish Mel C and Jay Kay had collaborated on a good tune at the very height of their career. I have been a fan of Jamiroquai since 1994 when I was first stationed in Europe, which was how I was introduced to his music, but they weren’t known in the US. When I came back to the States(Hawai’i was my next duty station) that’s when Jamiroquai’s third album TRAVELING WITHOUT MOVING came out and the music video of “Virtual Insanity” was played on MTV and that’s when the US noticed Jamiroquai. That’s right around the time the Spice Girls came with their hit “Wannabe”, and also the Seventies sound kinda came back with that disco-esque style. So I really do think that was a missed opportunity for both Jay Kay and Mel C to have worked together on something, perhaps on a soundtrack to a movie, or something. And I believe it would have been a great hit, too.

I’m just baffled by the fact that nobody in their respective camp-during that time-ever thought about getting those two together and record a duet and perhaps really make a great recording session and track. I mean, talk about a great missed opportunity for that to happen.

I have to admit I wasnt a fan of Spice Girls when they first came out. I downloaded their album a few years ago and I love and csnt stop listening to it. I love how funky and disco like the songs are. I love Jamiroquai I can see Jamiroquai making some of their songs and working with Spice Girls.
They enjoy themselves so much and that makes it even more enjoyable
