  • Welcome to my Digital Combat Simulator - Mission editor tutorial! As per the video you have probably had some desire to create DCS missions at some point in the past. If this is something you have been so inclined to do but have not been skilled enough, or found good enough DCS mission editor tutorials, then please follow along as I establish my DCS mission editor Miniseries!
This week we look at a way to set up an easy ambush, very quickly in the DCS mission editor. This is useful for creating awesome close air support or convoy escort missions!
If this is useful to you guys, please leave a like, and if you have any suggestions for future tutorials, please let me know and I shall get back to you!

    Great concept and implementation.

Similar principle can be used to triggering IEDs along the road and then an attack with insurgent rifle units. You can also make the insurgents retreat when e.g. 50% of the units have been killed.

can you block the road so the convoy gets stuck in the ambush?

This is certainly something you can do:
You can name the lead vehicle in the convoy by clicking on the group, and where you select the numbers, make sure it is set as "1 of #", then un the "unit name" field, name it to something memorable, for example "lead humvee"
In the "actions" section of the ambush trigger (the one which triggers the attack) you then add a new action which says destroy/explode unit (I cant remember exactly which one is better, so play around with it to find an affect you like) and set the unit to be, in this case "lead humvee".
This will have the simulated effect that the lead vehicle hits a mine/IED and blocks the road for the rest of the vehicles. Even if there is passing space, or offroad space around the edge of the destroyed lead vehicle. I believe this is because when their way point is set to "on road" they are only capable of driving exactly on the road, and will never deviate, and if the path they want to take is remotely obstructed, they definitely stop. This behaviour may be subject to change in the coming year however with ED suggesting improved ground vehicle and infantry path finding (probably so that low and slow flying in the apache is more realistic/atmospheric.)
